Title: DUmmy Dennis the Menace Defends Himself And His Fellow Lunatics
Post by: GOBUCKS on December 15, 2012, 05:38:14 PM
The DUmp's officially, professionally diagnosed nut, DUmmy Dennis the Menace, is upset.

People have been noting that one of his fellow nuts was responsible for the atrocity in Connecticut.

DUmmy Dennis feels the brotherhood of lunatics, and takes offense:

I was diagnosed with Bipolar II last summer, spent 3 weeks in a psychiatric day program.
Due to depression, anxiety, panic attacks and a few other precipitating factors.

Thanks to everyone on DU who is painting everyone with a mental health issue with a broad brush and lumping us in with mass murderers.

I would love for someone to explain to me exactly why I am such a danger to society?

A couple hints for you, I don't own guns, never have. I do have a number of kitchen knives because I fancy myself to be a pretty damned good amateur chef. Perhaps I shouldn't be trusted with Calphalon or Henckles?

I might be in the middle of boning a chicken or chopping onions and get the sudden urge to go kill someone just out of the blue?

I guess my two college degrees, one with a perfect 4.0 GPS, my professional and advanced professional certifications really don't say nearly as much about who I am as a man as does the fact I take 300 mgs of a mood stabilizing drug every day?

FWIW, even when I was attending the day hospital program, I was working some evenings on court filings, preparing tax returns for extension filers, and drafting estate planning docs. Clearly not functional in the real world.

Enough said. Thanks for all of your sensitivity and compassion. I feel so much better now.

3. you're not a danger to society. mentally ill doesn't automatically = psychopath
At the DUmp it does.

DUmmy HockeyMom makes the point that DUmmy Dennis The Menace is an officially, professionally diagnosed nut:

5. My dear Denninmi...

I treasure you, both here on DU, and in your own real world...

Please don't ever change.
If she does this again, I'll repost the link to her masterpiece, "Aching Seed".

Yet another DUmmy points out that Dennis is an officially, professionally diagnosed nut:

7. Do you really think you should own a gun? I don't.

Unless an accredited doc says you're all better.

12. If you really, really, really want to keep people from seeking help with mental difficulties

Your comment is exactly how to go about it.

Congratulations.

If mental illness were cured, there would be no democrats.

13. I'm so sorry.
I think this all started when Reagan closed the mental health facilities and made people with mental illnesses seem "deranged".. we are still living with his effects to this day.

Thirty years later, it's still Reagan's fault that DUmmy Dennis the Menace is an officially, professionally diagnosed nut!!

17. You're at an increased risk

I was mentally ill from 18-23 with severe depression. I took meds for it and they were powerful meds that changed a lot of my personality. I came off them over an 8 month taper and it was worth it in the end, I no longer suffer at all.

Looking back, I COMPLETELY understand why people are very wary of people with mental illness. I completely understand why I was discriminated against in terms of job opportunities and everything else. Would you have a paranoid schizophrenic babysit your kids? Would you hire someone with a mood disorder that makes them go off on a customer every now and then? Normal thinking people have every right to be skeptical and wary of those with mental conditions and especially those with untreated mental conditions.

The statistics don't say you are going to be a killer, they say you are at an increased risk.
DUmmy Dennis should be in that padded cell with UGP.

Forget about the right to bear arms for a minute... why should these people be allowed to vote?

Is it just me or does it seem to ya all that a vast majority of these bestest smartest people on the innerwebs all have some mental defect?

Both the right to own a gun and to vote should be treated the same if you ask me after watching how the last election went. Some people in this country shouldn't be able to do either one.

Point of order...I have absolutely no problem with people making fun of DUmmies with mental disorders (I've done it too) because they wallow in it like a pig in shit & hold it up admiring it, coveting it as if it were the Hope diamond. However, it isn't just DUmmies that have a mental illness. More conservatives than you think have these kinds of issues, we just don't gloat about it. I have bipolar disorder, mild OCD and have had my share of panic attacks. I have to meds I take everyday and I go to my doctor every 3 months to make sure everything is going okay and nothing needs to be adjusted, spindled, folded or mutilated.

I am quite capable of following the politics of the day with both logic and passion. I also own guns and have a loaded revolver in the drawer of my nightstand and a loaded shot gun within easy reach. I've never had the slightest desire to go postal on anything except those damned wild turkeys who are like locusts and have no ****ing boundaries and the occasional raccoon or coyote (never actually killed one of those, but have scared them away...my neighbor has, though) that tries to gain access to my critters. I would, however, love to have any one of the DUmmies advocating gun control or telling me I can't have weapons to try to come take them from me.

Sorry Blazeking, I need to inform you that even modern psychotropic drugs to not cure anything. All they do is try to compensate for chemical imbalances in the brain. I'm not ever sure that psychotherapy is effective.

Just because you were on medications for 5 years and were then able to get off them doesn't make you cured. They are mood altering drugs and they work (to whatever extent) while you are taking them but they don't change anything once they are out of your system.

Blazeking and Denninmi made the list and they ain't getting off.
