North Korean satellite 'tumbling out of control,' US officials say

The object that North Korea sent into space on Wednesday appears to be “tumbling out of control” as it orbits the earth, U.S. officials told NBC News.

The officials said that it is indeed some kind of space vehicle, but they still haven’t been able to determine exactly what the satellite is supposed to do.

In a statement, the White House said the rocket launch was a highly provocative act that threatens regional security and violates U.N. resolutions.

The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday condemned the launch, calling it a "clear violation" of U.N. resolutions. A spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he "deplores" the launch.

Since when does the UN care about anyone violating their resolutions (unless said country has a bunch of money or some really nice land)?  Bunch of do-nothing corruptocrats.

The satellite means nothing. It was the intercontinental launch vehicle that was being tested.
this is a nuke test without the nuke.

Which means they can lob something up, but who the hell knows where it'll land.

So unless they want to destroy a very large piece of the Mojave desert, it's pretty much useless, unless they get REALLY lucky.

North Korean satellite fail = how many dead rocket scientist?

With the frequency that their rocket tests fail (miserably, predictably) how many "North Korean rocket scientists" could there possibly be left in that country?

I'd wager that the qualifications for the job opening, "rocket scientist" in North Korea are approximately equivalent to, "elementary school janitor" just about anywhere else in the world.

Time for some additional mortar target practice.

Precisely.  The object of the exercise was to loft designed payload to planned altitude.  Anything above and beyond that was window dressing, or propaganda gravy on the remote chance the satellite would actually work.

I guess the scientists in North Korea will be sent off to the gulags and never be seen again.
