53. the shooter is dead
The sheriff said "self-inflicted."
But I wonder how he could have killed himself if his gun had jammed and he dropped the magazine before he ran into the Macy's store??

58. Probably cleared the jam and put a new mag in.
Or had a second gun.
I'm more amazed by the fact the gun jammed. In the Gabby Giffords shooting it jammed and in Aurora the rifle being used jammed.
It really seems like a weird coincidence this happens (not that I'm complaining, its a good thing)
The crazy bald dwarf explains why semi-automatic firearms sometimes jam - lead in the barrel.
I learn something new at the DUmp nearly every day.

61. Put enough lead through a barrel
Gunk builds up.
That's why. Also in aurora the magazine the shooter used is infamous for that, why DOD has not adopted it.
(And I wish I knew far less than I do)
The amazing thing would be if you knew a tiny fraction of what you think you do.
(For the resume: expert on semi-automatic firearms operation, and expert on small arms magazines. Also knows far more than she wishes she did.)

Good one. Right in the center of the bull's-eye.

And just when you think Nads could not show her ignorance any more than she has before.

I have to admit, Nadzy has a point. Most of the shooters are NOT actual weapons experts or even novices, and jams occur in weapons that aren't properly oiled after a few dozen projectiles have gone through the barrel. Therefore, most of the shooters are nuts (well, of course that's a given). If a REAL weapons expert were to pull this off, then there would be no (or far-less chance) of jamming. Of course, a real weapons expert would NEVER pull this stunt off in the first place.

That's a relief. For a moment I thought we were going to head off into a HAARP conspiracy theory.
Thanks' Nadin!
Sometimes I wish I knew as much as I think I know.

To the (hopefully) lurking bald dwarf: You don't know shit.
The core of a rifle bullet is lead, but it is fully encapsulated with a copper jacket, hence the nomenclature of FMJ (Full metal jacket). Lead bullets can't exceed 1400 fps (feet per second). Above that velocity, the lead begins to melt. Lead bullet are limited to non magnum handgun load and low velocity rifle rounds. The rifle rounds must have a brinell (hardness) of at least 18. Ideally you would limit rifle rounds that aren't FMJ to a molly coated bullet.
The rifle in question was a AR-15. It is a 5.56mm round. The normal bullet weight is 55 grains traveling at a velocity of 2900 fps. As no one make s a lead bullet for a 5.56 round, and they can't be bought as a complete cartridge from a manufacturer, your explanation proves you are full of shit.
Stick to stuff you know about. But then, you would be a short, bald headed, dwarfed mute.

I would like to know, exactly, how "gunk" builds up in an infamous magazine.
