I received a phone call last week asking if I want to accept a supervisor position. That included complete change of my schedule, but also a raise in pay. So I said yes.
This week I completed the training. Was given a the info, access card, and hired someone else for my old shifts . I was really excited to start in just a few days.

Well, yesterday morning my GM called me in the office and told me that the manager who resigned changed his mind and he's BACK, and I need to disregard my promotion. Now I'm left at only 24 hours per week, since they hired another person for half my shifts. To soften the blow, the manager said they will create a new position for me where I'm gonna be on call, to cover the supervisors shifts if needed. How is that gonna help me? I mean the whole thing is fuct up, Im left with only 60% of my pay.

Serves you right for not working at one of them union jobs.

one of at least 2 actions/reactions to this quandry that the business world has left you in.

1. Wring your hands, take it in the butt, and drive on.

2. Use your new found time to apply your skills in a new direction, develop new ones, make some networking connections that allow you to cultivate some new possibilities.

3. ?

I suspect that the DUmmy will choose option number 1.

I was rather content with my old position, was making good money.

This should be illegal I think. I mean they should've gave me my old position back, or don't accept back the guy who resigned. Today I found out that during my training they knew the old supervisor is coming back, but didn't say anything because they want me on stand by, to cover emergency shifts. How is that gonna pay my bills? Can I ask my landlord to " stand by " too? What a bunch of bs

I suspect that's what they were hoping for all along.

Yes, you were definitely ****ed over by your GM and the company you worked for.

Don't harm yourself by drinking away that hurt. The anger you feel is appropriate and can be used to move you forward.

I would certainly encourage you to look for another job in your field (you don't mention what it is so I can't be more specific) and as of now, you have supervisory training courtesy of your present employer. Another company may value that, and it would serve you well to highlight that when job searching.

Personally, I would set a firm boundary that I will only work the 24 hours of my old position that was left for me. I would not be 'on call' to cover the supervisors shifts if needed. Let them find someone else to do that. If you need more hours, only agree to cover your new co-workers time off only. Don't blame the other new hire either. They didn't know what was going on when they were hired so they can't be held responsible for what is happening to you.

The company and your GM did know, and they can be held responsible for their actions. They have shown that they are willing to lie to you and the are willing to use you. How long are you willing to stay at a job with a company like that?

I seriously wish you much strength and fortune moving forward.

It could only happen to a DUmmy.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Hey dummie? Let me let you in on a little secret. They want to get rid of you. They dangled that promotion in front of your face so you would hire your own replacement and train that person. Now they are gonna see if that person can handle the position, and if they can, well its bye-bye dummie!!!

Either that or they were looking to take out a full time position and make it into two part time positions so they don't get penalized. Either way the boss is blowing smoke up your ass.

I suspect it is a combination of the former and latter. Know what that tells me? You are a marginal employee... or completely worthless. They are the first to go in this O'conomy.

Hope you like the fundemental transformation your messiah has brought. You wanted it, you voted for it, you were successful and you own it.

Sucks to be you.

Me? I made myself a key employee of the organization I work for. When I started 17 yrs ago, I took any and all work. I worked the OT and whatever shifts nobody else wanted. I did the shit work that nobody else wanted to do. I was there before the boss in the morning and was there after he left.  Now I got my hands in so many projects from over the years they can't afford to get rid of me. They call that institutional knowledge.

That is how you keep your job, dummies.

I'm doing the same thing. There's 3 different depts. doing clinical and case management stuff related to what I do, and I am working on getting some of that load put on me.

Make yourself invaluable, and you have a job for a long time.

BTW, DUmie, they probably figured out you got all the work you were willing to do done in that 24 hours, and the rest you were posting on DU and texting on your Obama phone.

I agree.  Even Stevie Wonder could have seen that one coming.

Really, at least six jobs.  2 for the DUmmy and manager who were not fired.  2 for the new hire and the Dummy going to promotion. 2 for the new part time job and the manager getting rehired.

There is something not right about this story.    I have to stop looking for the parts where it all falls apart - they lie, why do I bother?

Because if the DUmmies ever bothered to get anything in writing, they'd know full well they had recourse through their HR, if not the state labor board, but nah...this is just a, "I got my hours cut" story with so much bullshit thrown in to make it sound like, "Poor me!"

Gee, primitives have been campaigning on a shortened work week for years, and when you get it, you complain. Typical liberal.

DUmmie, you're being popped like a festering zit.  Time to find some other sucker errr, employer that doesn't know what a time-serving clock-watcher you are.

They want the hours shortened and the paychecks bigger.

I really wish this bouncy were a true story.

I'd have to give a salute to the employer for recognizing a DUmmy and taking appropriate action.

Oh, her . . . couldn't happen to a less deserving person, that is if this happened at all. She's the idiot that thought trees were being butchered and went on and on about a truckdriver she was supposedly dating. She's always miserable.
