Who is feeding her?

Is she on gov't assistance since she is not married nor working?

Kid at 16.  Got the money for that shit going through her lip, but not enough to haul her ass to a gym or even around the block?

This is an extreme example of what will happen when we enable and support the bad habits of people.

Morbid Obesity is called that for a reason, it will kill you.

Morbid Obesity is called that for a reason, it will kill you.

It's also a term that is thrown around entirely too frequently by scrawny folks.  (Speaking from personal experience.)

Of have bad for profit doctors who make a killing in making sure people get obese and need much more medical care.  Where was her doctor?

It a doctors job to keep her from eating herself to death?

I'm guessing that you aren't a big fan of personal responsibility.

I agree with Rich, we are all responsible for ourselves and our own well being, when we reach a certain age...

Strange, when I go to the doctor, if my weight is high, then talk to me about what I'm doing to lose weight.

I just finished nursing school, I must have missed the class on how we should help doctors make their patients gain weight.

What is the doctor supposed to do?

Follow her around 24/365 and tell her she shouldn't eat so much?

Maybe he should have drugged her, then did a gastric bypass while she was unconscious without her permission.

Really?  Where was the doctor when she was gaining weight advising her of the health risks and ordering her to lose weight?

I am sure many people nagged her to lose weight, including her doctor. A doctor can only do so much, sadly in the end, it is her decision whether she wants to lose weight.

The doctor can refuse to treat her.

You're right.

She's a total retard who should be monitored her entire life because she's unfit.

We will see lots of people wanting to become doctors when they are told they can't earn a profit.   Why not make lawyers non-profit?  Why not every job?

Obviously Mr. Dodd does nothing actually important like being a doctor.

It must be nice to be meaningless and tell others how they have to act.

That may come one day.  ObamaCare may be changed to ensure that all citizens see a doctor once a year, why else force doctors to make all patient records electronic?  Those following an unhealthy lifestyle will be sent to reeducation camps and whipped into shape.

Did you read the article.  Her doctor had her on a diet and she successfully lost 100 pounds.  She then regained all of that weight because she was "hungry."

Every doctor I've met is big on maintaining a healthy weight.  If yours is telling you to get fatter, you should find a new doctor.

I'm just a bit too heavy and every time I see the Doctor he tells me I need to lose about 20 lbs. It's not his job to force me too, that's something that I have to take personal responsibility for and do.

Now he can help, the doctor is there to give advise and suggest approaches to doing such things, but unless you are advocating doctors monitoring people 24/7 then they won't be able to do anything for people who won't help themselves.

I can't see any case where the doctor would be at fault unless he or she suggested a patient be obese, but that won't ever happen.

I'm a bigger fan of health care and not for profit make them fat so I get  money, care.

Not for profit doctors? They have to make a living to. Even in our health care system (in canada, which many here on CC dislike) doctors still make a very good amount of money for the work they do.

Have fun with a heart attack if you tell doctors they can't earn anything, they won't refuse to treat you, they'll have simply left the profession.

Unless of course you're suggesting the state force them to work for nothing, then you're an idiot.

Call me a cold, unfeeling b****, but this woman's death is on her and her daughter's hands.  She got all the help available, even a friggin TV show, but she and her enablers kept shoveling food down her gullet.

The doofus on this thread asking 'where was her doctor' is an enabler as well.  Passing the blame is the typical liberal defense.  "Everything bad in my life is someone elses fault!  Wahhh!"  "Anything good in my life is what I'm entitled to."  Where's the damn puke smilie?  I'm so sick of the excuses!

Um, did you read the article?  The dr even showed up at her house telling her she wasn't going to leave that bed alive if she didn't take care of herself.  Why is it so hard to blame the person responsible for their situation?

Yep. Hi5 it's a tad insulting to the millions of others too who managed to lose a mountain of weight with far less support. Ultimately the person in the skin needs to decide to change. Any doctor I've  ever been too has never been shy about telling me if I'm even a little overweight so I doubt doctors were dancing around the glaring white elephant of 500 lbs of excess fat and skin in this case. There's no way to lie to yourself about your weight when you are parked in a bed and unable to move.

She was stuck in Haiti for 3 months after the earthquakes because she was too big for regular airplanes. You would think being stuck in Haiti for 3 months after an earthquake would allow you to lose enough weight to fly commercial and not strapped to pallet like a load of freight in the back of a cargo plane.

And then being the liberal that you are i'm sure you would advise this moron to sue the doctor for malpractice yes? Do you folks ever think things through to their logical conclusions? Or is every thought streaming through your heads some idealistic fantasy world where  human nature doesn't exist? Stop
"feeling" and start thinking.

Nope, did not read it which is bad on my part.  THen yes, it is her responsibility and her consequences.
