Title: Paging Red October......
Post by: formerlurker on June 01, 2008, 07:47:30 PM
I honestly don't see how the Phils are going to blow it this year little bro.    They are walking away with the NL pennant my friend.......   only to be beat by the Red Sox, but they are going to the dance.

Starting Pitching.

But, as long as the Phils score 10-15 runs a game, they should win a few of them.  :-)

Nah,  the Phils are taking it.    They are prone to choking, but I just don't see it this year.

a quick glance at the standings indicates that the phils are up .5 games on the fish, 3.5 on the braves, and 4 on the mets.  with over 100 games to be played.  hell, you're right.  cancel the season, and lets start the playoffs! :whatever: :-)

By all means, we'll talk again in September.      My thread was a shout out to Red, who is a die hard Phils fan, that I think from what I have seen from them thus far that they will get over the choke bump in the road this year.

Just a hunch, but I doubt I will be wrong.

During the Mets' thrashing of the Dodgers last night, they put up a graphic that showed all of the AL division leaders at June 1st last year, and they all made the playoffs.  But, before that, they put up a graphic of all of the NL division leaders on June 1st, 2007 . . . and none of them made the playoffs.  There's still a lot of baseball left to be played.  June 1st, 2008, and the Phillthies lead the East . . . the Cubs lead the Central, and the D'Backs lead the West.  There's still a few teams yet to be heard from, especially the one that beat the Dodgers last night.  Johan's a second-half pitcher . . . if he's 7-3 now, that means he could end this season with 20+ wins.  Pedro's coming back tomorrow night--his presence will help stabilize Ollie Perez, among others (Duaner Sanchez, for one).  Carlos Beltran is getting hot.  Jose Reyes has been hitting over .300 for just over the last month.

Don't be calling the race now . . . you'd be a Democrat.

I'll call the AL right now -- the Red Sox.     I would have done that back in April too.

Diamonbacks? yawn.    Dodgers?   giggle.  Mets? come on, NY teams I live to watch choke.   I hope they go neck and neck with the Phils to the end, only to choke.   So to that end - Go Mets!

That said,  I don't see the Phils choking this year, and I waited to June to make the comment.    Of course there is a lot of baseball to go, but they'll be standing at the end getting their dance card punched.

Really makes no difference who wins though as the AL team will beat the best of your lot regardless.

The Mets will win the NL East, but it'll be the final week of the season.  I don't see Atlanta going quietly.  As Splashdown said, "starting pitching" will win out.  Kendrick's arm will fall off around August 15th.

I'm ready for Boston v. Philly round 2 this year.

So many Jr. Nostradamases calling for our downfall.  And the wins just keep coming.      I love the proof being in the pudding.

The Phils do have enough starting pitching to win, if it stays healthy.  In spite of what he's shown in the first few weeks, Myers CAN pitch worth a damn, as he's shown in his last two starts which he lost thanks to no run support.  Hamels is money in the bank, Jamie Moyer's arm hasn't fallen off in twenty years, and even Eaton is pitching well, wonders never cease 'n all.  The bullpen has been outstanding and really, that's been all the difference in the world with our team.

But everyone knows major leaguers get paid for what they do post All-Star break.  So tell me, how have the Phils fared post All-Star break the past couple years?

The question is, How will they fare after this All-Star Break . . .   We know how things have gone in the past.  Last week, on their Sunday night broadcast, ESPN showed a graphic of the teams in the AL that were in first place on June 1st of last year, and where they ended up.  All of them won their divisions.  But, before that, was a graphic of what NL teams were leading their respective divisions on the same date . . . and none of them were in first when the season ended (and one division was tied, and neither team saw the postseason).

Will it be that way this year?  I don't think anyone here has a crystal ball.

ANGELS 38-24
RED SOX 38-26
PHILLIES 37-26

I'd bitchslap ya both, but Seattle already did it to the Sox last night, and looking up at the Cubs EVER should be embarassment enough.

Hardly as the Sox have the same record one, and two -- we have injuries presently coupled with the brawl the night before equates to the give away to the Mariners yesterday.

Angels will do nothing yet once again this year, and look at that - EVERYONE is beating the Yankees so y'all don't even have that to pound your chest over this year.

Oh, and how is Dice-K doing Sparky?

The Skanks had another walk-off win today.  'Course, it was against KC, but KC was up 5-1 and 10-6.

Also, let's remember something--the season is 162 games long, not 60-something.

This is going to be an extra special June this year.  We get both the Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Califoria of Los Angeles  in Citizens Bank Park during interleague play.  Back to back.  That'll be two big names for our kill board.  I'm game for any wagers ya'll want to suggest.   :cheersmate:

I heard he might be back in the lineup next week.

No matter, he'll tank in the second half of the season just like he did last year.  You're pinning your hopes to a pitcher whose ERA in September and October was almost EIGHT.

That's right, EIGHT.  Look it up RIGHT HERE (http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/historical/player_stats.jsp?c_id=mlb&baseballScope=AL&subScope=teamCode&teamPosCode=BOS&statType=2&sitSplit=9&venueID=&timeSubFrame2=1&timeFrame=1&timeSubFrame=2007&Submit=Submit).

And if you think you're going to go far with a nearly Atlanta-esque shit road record, think again.  You've yet to hit your All-Star slump that you hit each and every year.

Oh, it's gonna be fun to watch, I can tell you that much.

And finally, Bartolo Colon?  Sucks ass.  I could have told you that.  But no, you had to spend bucks to find out.  You would have thought Theo the Excel Queen would have figured that out after Gagne, Donnelly, and J.C. Romero were complete busts, but nahhhhh...

Tell me how good your team is when Manny goes headcase on you again and you don't have "Big Sloppy" to back your ass up.

Now you wanna talk sweep?

Dice-K is undefeated so far this year (8-0).  Colon is 4-1, has the best ERA in his entire career, and we only paid him 1.2 million -- I think Theo is sleeping well at night on the decision to sign him.

Manny hasn't gone head case yet.   Without Papi we are in 1st place.   Not really hurting right now.

Sweep.  Sweep.  Sweep.   1st round (if y'all make it there) and you are gone, so you're done before there is a Fall chill in the air.

Hey, if I got over six runs a game of support, I'D be 8-0.  Bartolo isn't looking all that hot for 4-1, and frankly, who else do you have?  Sure, Okajima has a decent ERA, when he isn't giving up Grand Slams to guys batting below the Mendoza line.

Face it--your bullpen sucks, and Papelbon isn't the dominant closer he was.  K-Rod, OTOH...

Yeah, at the end of the day, who would you rather have?

Then again, who would you rather have NOW?

Colon, or Lackey?

Okajima, or Scott Shields?

Lester, or Ervin Santana?

Wakefield, or Saunders?

Bucholtz, or Garland?

I think I've made my point.

Dice-K's ERA is 2.53.   Lester and Masterson are doing well.   We have an incredible farm system and no worries.   Not really worried about Paps, and I will take the closer who can perform in the playoffs over the chokemeister K-Rod anyday.

..and no you haven't made your point.   Do you know what first place feels like?   what am I saying, of course you don't.

First.Place.

I think you better look again.  Our first-place lead is bigger than your first-place lead.  Yours is what, 1 1/2 games?  Call me when you hit 5 games up.  It won't happen, mind you, but you can dream.

Oh, and who has the better record again?  Say it with me, everyone--ANGELS.  That's right--ANGELS.

And nice game last night against the Reds.  First time you face the Reds in over 30 years and they picked up bitch-slapping ya right where they left off in the '75 WS.  Nevermind it's against a last place team, you got punked by a guy who came in with a 2-9 record.  How do you even speak when you just got thouroughly OWNED like that?  Oh, and whatcha gonna do now that Manny is out?

Yep--that Atlanta-esque road record is gonna not just bite you IN the ass, it's gonna tear that bad boy right off.

And finally, get off the Dice-K wagon already.  It's just gonna look that much worse when that train wreck happens, and you know damned well it will.  Like I said, do a month-by-month breakdown of his ERA, and you're gonna see that the longer the season goes on, the worse he's gonna get.  He won't be a .500 pitcher during the second half, and don't even try to tell me otherwise.

And chokemeister?  K-Rod?  Does your boy have 4 consecutive 40-save seasons?  Is your boy 27 for 28 in save ops?   I think your boy chewed the baseball himself and is too embarassed to admit it.

Y'all know that we already had this discussion on K-rod last season.  He, like A-fraud, SUCK in the playoffs.   So I would even take Rivera over your boy k-rod anyday.

Yeah, every so often our lineup makes chumps look like Cy Young contenders.   It happens.  Already over it.

We have more wins than the Angels.  Say that with me -- MORE WINS.    We are in first place in the AL.   That is how it works.

You have absolutely nothing to gage Dice-K by other than his first year here.   He is doing extremely well, and I have no doubt will continue to do so.   Face it, you got nothing.

Angels win last night?  Ooh, my bad -- no they didn't.  Of course they didn't.  Big talk on our home games when the Angels are just about even on home play -- but heck, when LA is chuck full of whatever-way-the-wind blows for fans I guess home park advantage means very little.

Would you look at that JD Drew has a double and triple today..... another cast off from the land of la-la that seems to fit into life in Boston just fine.

Oh, goody--the "we're better than our record" indicates, but you're still sub-.500.

Well, look at it this way--at least you're not a certain football team who went 16-0 only to choke the "greatest team ever" title away in the last TWO MINUTES OF THE SUPER BOWL TO A 6-SEED WILD CARD TEAM.

Oh wait--LA doesn't have a football team anymore.  You wouldn't understand that reference, given what few football fans in the LA Basin are Rai-DUH fans.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

Wow seriously?   Denver pretty much sucks (badly), and couldn't touch an undefeated regular season if they wanted to.

The Giants got lucky, Asante Samuel sucks, and there you go -- we lost the big dance.  However, we will be a contender yet once again, which is far more than I can say for the chumps you root for.

All that happened is that the Red Sox and Angels added the Phillies to their "kill board."  If the Mets could hit worth a lick, they would have made up a few more of those games.  I didn't say that the Mets were going out to the Angels and were going to take two of three from them in their park, or that the Mets would take two of three from the Rox.  But, it happened.  What also happened is that the Mets' bats went silent against the Mariners.  (Seeing that Dan Giese and Darrell Rasner are pitching the day/night split doubleheader tomorrow, the Mets stand a good chance of taking that DH.)

The Phillthies are going to panic, and overpay for someone.  Probably someone that they can get on the cheap, like Greg Maddux.  The Mets probably will overpay for someone to replace Carlos Delgado, and soon.  Ollie Perez could wind up somewhere else soon (Texas?), but he'll bring back someone mid-tier.

I said that 'cause Sparky and formerlurker are friends of mine from way back, and I wanted to talk some smack.  Yes, in hindsight that was probably unwise.  But it is what it is.  As much as I try to hide it, I do have a streak of Philly obnoxiousness in me.  Sorry.  :p  I'm paying for it now.  Now the Phils could win 15 in a row and all I'll hear from them is "BUT WE KICKED YOUR ASS!"  :hammer:

I don't see the Phils overpaying for anyone.  It'll be a wonder if Gillick DOES make a move for Oswalt or Bedard, and there's no way in hell he's trading away the farm for half a seaon of Sabathia.  Gillick's a stingy bastard when it comes to pitchers.  I would love to see a trade for Bedard myself.

And I feel your pain on the hitting.  Over the past three weeks we've stranded somewhere in the neighborhood of seven hundred men on base.  Prior to last night, Utley had completely vanished.  Hence, the 3-10 run.  Just in time for the two series against my friends' 1st place teams.  That's a good one, God.   :banghead: :bawl:

I read on MLB Trade Rumors where the Ynakees have passed on dealing for Bedard, but the phillies are still in the hunt.  Apparently, the Yankees know just how surly (for a definition, see "Delgado, Carlos") Bedard can be, and they don't want that influence in their clubhouse.  Besides, the rep that I've heard about Bedard is that after 100 pitches in a game, he's flat.

The word I've heard is that the Phillthies don't have the prospects to give up for either Bedard or Sabathia, and they would pretty much have to send two starting position players, in addition to whatever prospects, from the big team to land either.  They might be able to get, say, Greg Maddux for the two months or so, but I'm not sure if they want to--or if Maddux would even go to Phillthy.

And, as I've posted before, another rap on Bedard is that he's supposedly kinda surly in the clubhouse.  Not sure if you want that in any MLB clubhouse--destroys whatever chemistry that's there.

Ya gotta keep these people in their place.  I mean, when they're not RUNNING smack, they're smacking each other with baseball bats or running each other over in bar parking lots.

Yeah, this kid's a real winner...

OMG, Sparky hails from the land of la-la and he is cherry picking the news for losers?   Hey, start in NH where you don't have to look far.   Didn't a NH loser Yankee fan just run down Red Sox fans recently?

You want to go to that card?  I mean, since you won't admit your pitching staff sucks, we'll go with managers?

Who would you rather have--Scioscia or Tito?

Oh, and how's life treating you when you're looking UP AT THE RAYS, FALLING FARTHER AND FARTHER BACK???

Say it with me now...FOUR GAMES BACK.  FOUR GAMES BACK.

See, don't you feel better?  I certainly do.

.....and yet they still have the same amount of wins as the la-la-loser Angels,  and they still are at the top of the MLB.    HAHAHAHAHA.    No worries they will reclaim the AL East soon.

and yes Sparky it is all Tito's lame ass managing that is blowing games.    You kind of have to know who to go to in the bullpen, when to pull them, and when players need to be rested (witness Oki).   You also have to stop being players' cheerleader and bench Lugo, and move Tek down to #9 on the batting order (it would be freakin nice if asshat didn't assure Tek that sucking arse with the bat isn't important, his catching is most important -- are you kidding me right now?).

Tito is a horrible manager, and pisses me off pretty much every game.

harsh, dude. :-)

Seeing how his Angels are looking up at the Rays then nah, not exactly harsh (well, yes only if lame-ass harsh is a consideration(http://musingsofanundiscoveredgenius.com/smf/Smileys/classic/point.gif)
 ).

Sparky knows that the Red Sox will be back on top, will be in the race in then end, and that his Angels will not be able to beat them -- if they don't get eliminated of course before they have the opportunity.

Tack Atlanta to our kill board for the 2nd time this year.  Right next to the 1st place, Cinderella story (  :lmao: ) Marlins.  Yay for us, but I can't wait to get the Mets again.  :hammer:

How'd that turn out this time, Red?  The Mets are 7-3 v. the Phillthies this year.  2-1 at Shea, and now 5-2 at CBP, winning all three series.  And Adam Eaton being the Mets-killer got turned on him (finally).  If I were you, I'd be saying something to JRol about "we're gonna win 100 games this year."  You'd have to only lose 21 the rest of the way . . . and that ain't gonna happen.

Mets win the division the last week of the season.

I have to say, the Mets deserve congratulations.  You deserve to be in first place.  And soon you will be.  The Phillies deserve my piss right now.  This has been building up for over a month right now, I'm about to blow my top:

To the "Phightin Phils" (<--  :lmao:)  You shitheads!  How could you do that to us???  How could you put us through the most excruciating losses in recent memory?  Ya know, losing big to the AL was one thing.  You could say, "well, we weren't familiar with them... we were a fish out of water... they were overloaded with talent..." and you'd be right.  But a DIVISION RIVAL that you know is gonna be breathing down your neck, one that you play all the time and you've beaten in the past (with the SAME DAMN PLAYERS), on YOUR OWN HOME FIELD!  An opponent that should inspire you like no other, in front of sell-out crowds... how do you do that?  How do you **** it all up like that?  How do you not take pitches and show patience at the plate?  How do you give up runs in critical junctures?  How do you strike out and fly out so damn much and not drive in runs at crucial times?  How do you not make the pitch and not get the hit?  You just suck, plain and simple!  I gutted it out for eight goddam hours on Sunday, to see you post 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 0, and lose in the 12th.  Yesterday you came aaaaalllllllll the way back from an 8-1 deficit... to LOSE 10-9, WITH THE ******* TYING RUN AT SECOND!  And let's not forget being in the lead 4-3 on Saturday night, to blow the game 9-4 two innings later.  I will never forget this series as long as I live.  Gosh, a decent pitcher would have won that final game for us.  Consistant bats would have carried the series for us.  You needed this series, you needed the Mets, you needed it at home.  Hell a split would have kept the fire alive.  But it's been stamped out.  Surprise surprise, we're losing again tonight against the Cards, with our Ace on the mound.  Historically, with precious few execptions, Philadelphia has proven itself to be psychologically allergic to victory.  I sadly concede now this era will be no exception.  The Phillies of the 2000's will be the Flyers of the 90's and the Eagles of the 80's.  Lots of potential, and not much else.  Until this team changes, I'm not holding out much hope of anything.

Phil Sheridan is one of the wisest sports writers I know.  Here's how he puts it:

Quote
The Mets have three pitchers whose name stands out on the "probable starters" chart: Santana, John Maine and, even now, Pedro Martinez. The Brewers have Sabathia to go with Ben Sheets. Even with Tom Glavine and John Smoltz on the disabled list, Atlanta has Tim Hudson and Jair Jurrjens - a name that stands out anywhere. The Cubs have Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Dempster.

The Phillies have Cole Hamels. That's it.

The ageless Jamie Moyer is fine. Kyle Kendrick has been very effective but hardly overwhelms hitters. Eaton has made some decent starts, to be fair, but is ever capable of a game like last night's. Myers is a cipher.

The Phillies are an offense-first team, no question about that. But offense is much more prone to hot streaks and cold snaps than first-rate pitching. Over the course of a long season, the teams that get the best pitching, week in and week out, tend to rise toward the top.

When Atlanta was winning all those division titles in the 1990s and 2000s, the lineup changed dramatically. Pitching was the constant.

Again, congratulations to the Mets.  And congratulations to the Red Sox, Angels, Atheletics, and Tampa Bay.  I have respect for everyone who plays what I like to call "good baseball."  That does NOT include the Phillies at this particular point in time.  And that admission, believe me, hurts.

Sis, what did you do with that bag?  Philadelphia needs about five million of them right now.

0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0

Red, I was saying waaay back when the season started that the Mets were going to win the division, but it wouldn't be settled until the last week of the season.  Besides, if the Phillies add A.J. Burnett and if he stays healthy (a big 'if'), they'll tighten up the race pretty quickly.

Great--a bunch of players who don't deserve to be there, put there by a bunch of ballot-stuffing mouth-breathers.  Sorry, but a LOT of more deserving players got overlooked or outright dissed.  Doesn't make your players any better, sad to say.

But go on--please explain to me why a guy who isn't in the top 50 in ANY offensive category save homeruns (13) when THAT'S ALL HE DOES is somehow named to the All-Star team?

Save your smack-talk for this weekend.  Friday is already set...Lackey versus Buchholz.  Hope you're hungry because you're gonna be eating a lot of this:

Is that crow done yet?  Angels crushed the Sox 11-3 last night.  Not only do you NOT have the best record in baseball, nor do you have the most wins, now you no longer lead your own division any longer.

Get used to mediocrity--specially when Manny takes himself and all his baggage out the door with him.  Seriously, $100K for shoving the team travelling secretary?

Say it slowly, so your head doesn't explode, hon--Anaheim Angels--BEST RECORD IN BASEBALL.  Repeat as necessary until blood pressure goes down.

And it just keeps getting better for the Angels...

This is the BOSTON take on it...

LINKY (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080730&content_id=3222695&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos)

Red Sox know Angels will be even tougher to beat

BOSTON -- Things are looking awfully sunny for the Los Angeles Angels right about now, even as they perch themselves cross-country from their Southern California home.
The 66-40 Angels appear to be doing everything right. They hit. They pitch -- even flirt with a no-hitter at Fenway Park, where a road team hasn't thrown a no-no in 50 years. And in a season that's notorious for the home-field advantage, they sport one of two winning records by an American League team away from Anaheim.

So naturally, the arrival of Mark Teixeira on Tuesday from the Atlanta Braves for first baseman Casey Kotchman and Minor League pitcher Steve Marek only added gravy to the Halos' situation.

Quite frankly, it further tilted the complexion of the AL pennant chase in their favor, and it's no secret to teams like the Red Sox, who are vying for their own livelihood.

"What can I say?" said second baseman Dustin Pedroia. "They want to go to the World Series and win the World Series."

Boston, at the moment, is struggling even at Fenway where they've been so dominant all year. Since the All-Star break, they're 1-4 at home against the Yankees and Angels, and that includes John Lackey's near no-hitter on Tuesday.

========================================================================================================

Aren't you glad this topic got pinned?  I know I sure am.  I'll be the one in Outfield Section 42, Row 13, Seat 11 with the Vlad jersey cheering my ass off when Teixeira knocks his first one out as a Halo.

Oh, and for the record:

LAA-NYY record for 2008: 2-2, with six left to play.

LAA-BOS record for 2008: 8-1, with none left to play.

BOS-NYY record for 2008: 6-6, with six left to play.

You really are gunning for that third-place finish, aintcha?

On another note, you are in for a really beautiful Fall in cow country Sparky.   The colors are going to be just outstanding in vibrancy and crispness due to the very wet summer we had.

Enjoy it my friend case y'all know the  Angels won't be in the big dance, and Denver R-E-A-L-L-Y sucks..... foliage is all you have....   :-)

What is your win record?   uh-huh.   How many games are you up on the Sox?  uh-huh.

Few more weeks and we will compare the final tally.

Don't go hitting the jewelry store just yet, toots.  Your pitching staff is suspect at best, and you 1--don't have Manny, 2--don't have Papi at 100 percent.  Don't think that Bay and Pedroia are going to save your asses, cause they aren't.

Our win record is 1--better than yours.  Nuff said.

Oh, and who won 8 of 9 from the Sox this year?  Do ya really want to go there?

BTW--nice game tonight.  Giving up 15 runs to the Rangers?  Really?

Pedroia did just fine for us in the WS last year (that's WORLD SERIES -- I know you have to wipe away cobwebs to remember what that is).  Pedey is also in the running for MVP this year.

Wake had a bad night.   It happens.   Manny leaving was good for the team.   I also care little how the regular season went with the Angels, cause y'all know what happens in the playoffs.    K-rod chokes.   Angels are done in short order.

Drop 2 to the White Sox.   Tampa is free falling.    The Yankees are done this year.     Hey, it's football season!!!!

Life.is.good.

Wake has had more than "A bad night".  He's 8-10.  He hasn't gone more than six innings in nearly two months, and that was against the Angels when he got tagged with another loss.

Byrd is a friggin joke.  Beckett is one bad outing away from a full-blown meltdown, which means the only two starters you have that don't send chills up your spine every fifth day are Dice-K (only because he gets 7 runs of support per game) and Lester.

Your bullpen is for shit, the only reason Papelbon doesn't have MORE blown saves is because Okajima chokes the game away for you.

You score a bunch of runs, you say?  Whoop-de-****in-do.  Not a hard thing to do when you play on a Little League ballfield.  Maybe you wouldn't need to score 10 runs a game if you had someone who could pitch to save their asses.  So what if Pedroia is having a career year?  It ain't gonna last, toots.

So keep throwing out those bitch-slaps at me--you and I both know the first and last rule of running smack--the scoreboard never lies, and we both know who has the scoreboard right now.

Yeah, life is good, because the Pats will go 9-7 or 10-6, and the clubhouse cancer that is Randy Moss will be back as bad as ever when Brady goes down for 3-4 weeks with that bad foot of his, or maybe he just wants to impregnate a few more supermodels or something...but seriously, how can you consider him straight when he poses for pics like this?

HAHAHAHAHA.

Hitting:

Red Sox  .284
Angels    .265

Pitching:

Angels  .393
Boston  .400

You want to try again?

Dice-K's era is 2.88, so he really doesn't need the 7 run spot does he?   Becket was hurt, and pitched fine the other day.   I really have no complaints with Byrd.  Lester is solid.   Wake's era is indicitive of the few games he had like last night where is was just completely off (his 500th appearance for the Sox by the way).   He is a victim of lack of run support for the most part.

Paps owns the postseason.   K-rod has yet to prove himself there.    You know how that story ends.

The Pats-- hahahahaha.     See you at the superbowl Sparky.   Good thing you live in NE so you can enjoy the parties.    Nothing but sucking air in Denver come February.

 :-)

Oh and Brady can do whatever the hell he wants.     MVP QB that you would give your left nut to sign in Denver and you know it.

Are you kidding me right now?

» I want to admire the Denver Broncos for opening the season with a blowout victory on the road. At the same time, I find it impossible to ignore the fact that their opponent, the Oakland Raiders, provided no more resistance than they could expect to receive going against air on the practice field. Jay Cutler did show how much better a quarterback he is now that he's undergoing treatment for diabetes. He has regained the size and strength to stand tall in the pocket (not that the Raiders defense gave him much reason to feel uncomfortable) and throw the ball with zip and accuracy. Rookie receiver Eddie Royal demonstrated that he has difference-making skills. But, I'm sorry. It's hard to truly know just how good the Broncos are because their opponent was so incredibly bad. We'll get a much better idea when they take on the San Diego Chargers in Week 2.

Ah you're kidding me right?

Picture this, 2001 season.   Week 5. Brady's second game after the Bledsoe injury.   Brady's Pats lose to Miami 30-10.

How did that season end again?

While I am disgusted at their performance Sunday, you would have to be a complete fool to say they are done for the season.   You know, the same kind of fool that thinks Denver's 3-0 start is something to get excited about.

For the record my OP was for the Phils, and you pinned this based on my statement that the Angels would be eliminated in the first round -- I am correct on both accounts.

The fumes that the Red Sox were running on ran out, but they were almost there and certainly would have been if Ortiz, Lowell and Beckett were healthy.

Actually, I pinned it because you stated the Angels would be swept out of the playoffs back in June. A pretty close prediction but only "close"...no cigar.
