NEW YORK (The Blaze/AP) — The New York City homeless man – whose gift of boots from an NYPD police officer became an online sensation last week – is back on the streets with no shoes.
The New York Times found him Sunday night wandering barefoot in Manhattan. The paper identified him as Jeffrey Hillman, formerly of South Plainfield, N.J.
Asked about the $100 all-weather boots Officer Larry DePrimo gave him on Nov. 14, Hillman says he’s hidden them because “they are worth a lot of money.â€
He says he’s grateful for the gift, but he wants “a piece of the pie†because the photo was posted online “without permission.â€
“I was put on YouTube, I was put on everything without permission,†he added. “What do I get?â€

Years ago our town drunk got a pair of shoes one morning and by noon he had sold them, bought wine and was passed out drunk on main street.
....he was probably a democrat voter also.

This happens time after time after time. And people wonder why we're so cynical and jaded.

Typical DUmbocrap.

Remember "The Man with the Golden Voice"?
He got a BIG break, bigger than 99.99999% of the population ever will.
And yet...
Liberals refuse to admit that success is more than a lottery and poverty is more than the machinations of others.

I see the homeless all the time. You really can't do anything for them. IMO, they need to be institutionalized, but the law says you can't hold them against their will. There are also a lot of schizophrenics on the street and some of them can be very dangerous.
The cops would sometimes pick them up and take them to the hospital, but they would be back out doing their rounds, sleeping and peeing in business doorways and stairwells.
We don't let stray dogs walk the street and we shouldn't allow this either.

When I was at NC State, 7/8ths of the homeless and prostitutes on Hillsborough Street had mental problems and addictions. They gathered around the university because they knew there were gullible, dumbass young kids with their parents' money they could con or beg into getting enough to make it another day. When the bums didn't get enough that day, they resorted to burglary. I didn't give them a dime. I worked for my paycheck on top of going to classes.
The majority of them weren't there because they were at the bottom. They were there because they wanted to be there.

What a surprise. :whatever:
Barefoot NYC Man Isn't Homeless
"I understand why it could be frustrating for New Yorkers," he continues. "They see a person in this situation and they think no one has been helping. Outreach teams continue to try to work with him, but he has a history of turning down services."

Are these street people mentally ill ??????
I am not so sure, they see reality different from others that is true but so do Artists and Scientists in the comunity, the inventors and kids with super IQ'S.--------The lady down the block into crafts that see things we do not see and turn a scrap of wood into a candle stick.
At least this poor man has the sense to not go out into the jungle wearing $100.00 boots that will get him killed for.
Poor fella, I will bet some sleazy Ambulance chaser got hold of him and saw money in his plight.
Now had the shoes been $20.00 sneakers with wool socks, perhaps he would be wearing them. Grateful for them and have no fear about wearing them.
Sort of like seeing a woman on the streets that needs a coat, you give her a warm wool coat-----You do not give her a old Mink coat, that can arouse interest in the others in that world.

These shitsticks work harder at scamming the system than they would if they were actual, real, productive members of society.
Fully agree with Chris. Many, not all, of these shitsticks are there because they want to be there.

So What, these are free people in America and if they wish to live on the streets that is their choice. Just because most of us do not understand why they wish to live that way does not make it wrong, bad or criminal.
Most street people are up there in age, they worked and paid their taxes, had family's they cared for.
Something went wrong in their lives to make them desire the streets other then their family. Could be they did not find happiness in the good life.
Interesting story about a NY woman in society that just upped and disappeared from family. She shut down all bank accounts and still paid taxes on her homes etc. For 20 years the family tried to get her declared dead so they could inherit. Each time they went to court someone usually a Lawyer would come in and say she was still alive. Address Unknown.
Finally someone spotted her living on the streets, happy as a clam wanted to continue her life as she wished. Family came in forcing her into a hospital to prove she was GAGA.
Far from GAGA, she explained she had taken her life in her own hands and was happy with it. No more blood sucking tics of family's, let them make it on their own as she had and was making it now.
Besides there was no money left to give anyone, she had funneled it all to Charity and was now as broke as the next street lady.
Good story, don't know if it is true or not but I for one have to rejoice in her actions, She lived her life as she wished, and found happiness there.

.....
....snipped mindless vesta-babble to save pixels.
You know, vesta? Sometimes you make sense. A lot of sense.
Unfortunately, this isn't one of those times.
I think it's been demonstrated that this particular worthless bum is a worthless bum because:
1. He portrays himself as being homeless. He is not. The government provides an apartment for him. A more astute observation about your free spirit worthless bum hero is that he's a ****ing fraud.
2. He willingly accepted a gift from a cop who wrongly assumed that the worthless bum wasn't really worthless -- he was just down on his luck. Well, we now know that the worthless bum isn't down on his luck. He's a lucky fool who's played the government for an even bigger fool.
3. He, like many worthless bums, did what they do best -- stuck out his hand for money due to his new-found celebrity status brought about by the cop's generosity and certainly not something noble that the worthless bum did...
...Unless you count parking your ass barefoot on a NYC street in November as something that's noble.
He might be "free" in the sense he can park his worthless ass on a street in NYC in November without wearing shoes, but as long as he's getting freebies from the gubmint, is he really free?
That's a rhetorical question, vesta, meaning you don't have to answer it.

It gets worse. The Today show reported this morning that the guy isn't so homeless, he has an apartment and is getting veterans benefits . I guess it's easier to lie ,cheat and steal then work for some.

And how long until an FOIA shows that he isn't a veteran, either.

3...2...1...
Funny thing is, there are about 4x as many veterans "on the streets" as there are Americans who really have earned the status of "veteran".
-
Nah, what really pisses me off is that cop just got a hard lesson in how shitty some people can be.

Hence the term "mentally ill". Btw...There is an ocean of difference between being artistically inclined and being mentally ill. Is a doctor a better doctor if he or she is mentally ill? A police officer?,A teacher, A lawyer,A construction worker? See where i'm going here Vesta? I was married to a mentally ill person who though that there was nothing wrong with being mentally ill and because of it decided she wasn't going to take her meds...."She just saw the world differently" (her exact words). When your perception is skewed you tend to make very bad decisions which end up not only hurting you but those you portend to love. There is nothing honorable or romantic about mental illness. Like any other human affliction...it just is.
-
To piggyback what toast said if the lady who sees something in a scrap of wood then douses herself in gasoline and sets herself on fire she isn't seeing the world differently vesta; she's mentally ill. Plenty of creative people are that way without mental illness at the very least plaguing them to the point of incapacitation. BEG is an example of a creative person who functions without mental illness. Hell her whole family does and are wildly creative without being sadled by mental illness. Mine does as well with some degree of ADHD. There is nothing romantic about dealing with an incapacitating mental illness as some cute whimsical little quirk. Many of those individuals choose suicide eventually because they can't hold basic tasks and relationships together and it happens at the end of the sick enabling people like you that tell them they are just different. Think of it this way would you think it quirky and cute that someone has diabetes? What about hypothyroid? Would you encourage them not to seek treatment for a hormonally based illness in the interest of just being different? Mental illness is no different many of those things that have a hormonal and biological basis just like thyroid dysfunction or pancreatic dysfunction. They should be treated and not coddled as some acceptable whimsy of human personality.

The young police officer is still a hero in my book. He did the right thing.
The guy that scammed the boots out of the police officer is going to close doors for people that really do need help.
