Geithner refuses to budge on higher tax rates for wealthy -- Says republicans 'having a tough time'
from Bloomberg Businessweek: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-12-02/geithner-says-fiscal-cliff-deal-requires-tax-rate-increase
“There’s not going to be an agreement without rates going up,†Geithner said on CNN’s “State of the Union†airing today, according to a transcript. Republicans will “own the responsibility for the damage†if they “force higher rates on virtually all Americans because they’re unwilling to let tax rates go up on 2 percent of Americans.â€
“The ball really is with them now,†said Geithner, the administration’s lead negotiator on the fiscal cliff, on CNN. “They’re having a tough time trying to figure out what they can do, what they can get support from their members for.â€
. . . Geithner also repeated his case for a long-term extension of the federal debt ceiling after partisan disputes dragged out negotiations over raising the limit last year.
“We are not prepared to let the threat of default on America’s credit, on the savings of Americans, the investments of Americans, be held hostage to the political agenda of a group of people in Congress over time,†he told CBS’s “Face the Nation†program. “It’s not a responsible way to govern.â€

I don't know whether to laugh or cry about him lecturing us on governing responsibly. When he and everyone else in the 0bama misadministration wouldn't know responsibility unless they pushed it off on Bush.

Hammer tax cuts for the rich and corporate welfare. Keep those out front. Move stimulus and refi proposals in behind to support them.
Do not even mention social security or medicare unless it is in the context of reducing the retirement age and increasing medicare coverage to everyone within US borders.
Keep your proposal in the news and make it clear that your proposal is viable, that you have a mandate, and that this needs to move forward. Republicans need to stop obstructing and do what they were elected to do. The republicans leaked your proposal to demonize it, but it is having the reverse affect. It is highlighting their obstructionism and their support for unpopular tax policies.
Republicans were NOT elected to raise taxes. I don't know where you idiots get that idea from.

I just want to make sure that I understand responsible governing to be borrowing or printing 42 cents out of every dollar spent? Every single year? Is that right?
OK, no problem.
I guess that is like the new definition of expert is a person that is never correct.

Geithner is all over this A.M. I saw him earlier on "Meet the Press".
I think we need to read between the lines. My gut feeling is that there is a lot more to this push than just the usual political game playing. There is something very serious afoot that they are not telling us about.
Obama has thrown out some unbelievable numbers this go-around, the FEDs are printing 50 billion a month indefinately and now Obama wants the power to raise the dept ceiling without congress approval.
I think we could even be headed for an economic collapse of some kind, with or without the tax increases on the rich, as those would only cover 8 days of the current federal spending. Something bigger, much bigger, is going on that we don't know.

I think they are purposefully trying to push us into collapse. After that happens they will say they have no choice but to tax the living daylights out of the wealthy, including wealth taxes, and seizing our 401ks then taxing the hell out of the middle class as well so they can redistribute it. They want total power over us and I think they can achieve that by collapsing the system. I believe it was Cloward and Piven that came up with this plan.

There definitely is a push going on about the 401Ks. I have read articles and heard several Democrats floating that balloon in the past couple of weeks. You would think someone would tell us if there is a huge downturn coming, but who? The media won't tell us.

The media will gladly report that unemployment has fallen from 7.9% to 8.0% this month. :-)

True  And with all the game playing they do with the numbers, even what they report isn't the real truth. The labor dept. uses a number around 14.7% unemployment.

Both parties are guilty of using this game to make unemployment seem lower, however up until now the difference hasn't been as big, because there were more jobs out there and the actual UE rate was lower.

Yeah, it's not like he plans on actually paying them himself, after all.

I saw Geithner this morning on the Stephy Stephanopolis show. It is amazing how he wasn't asked about how Obama wants the power to raise the dept ceiling without congressional approval. Who does Obama think he is, Mohamed Morsi? Has the constitutional scholar never heard of the separation of powers under the United States Constitution? At least I can say that I didn't vote for the dipshit. Bronco Bama screws up everything that he touches, both by accident and on purpose. To all you other dipshits lurking out there who voted for him
:ownit:

Several nutty dems do that about every year. I seriously doubt anything will come of it. If it does, then you are gonna see a lot of really pissed off people and the dems will get their ass tossed out of congress en masse in the next election. Not to mention all the repub candidate for pres will have to do is say "The dems stole your retirement!!!".
Not to mention the number of people pulling their money out before the law goes into effect.
Do look for the dems to push dropping the tax free part of contributions.

I may have misspoke. Check out this editorial by the IBD. IBD's take on taxing 401k's (http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/112812-634984-401k-on-the-table-for-fiscal-cliff.htm)
Edited to add part 2: Seems they were talking about this back in 2009. Dems talk about stealing 401k's... in 2009! (http://money.usnews.com/money/blogs/capital-commerce/2008/10/30/why-democrats-will-target-the-investor-class-in-2009)

Once the DUmmies get their wish and their king crowns himself as dick-tater for life it won't matter if he steals it or not. He can decree it's Bush's fault.

There is no mistaking that the Dems are now the neo-Communist party. Their goal is to confiscate private property and nationalize everything.

I think Obama and the DemonRats want the Republicans to hold out on the the tax issue. They want the taxes on everyone to go up, because that means they have more money to spend.
