Shaving with a Straight Razor - should I try this?
I've heard you get a really close shave when done right - and the five bladed razor (I think it's fusion) just doesn't shave close enough. I have thick strands of facial hair, so a 5 oclock shadow happens within a few hours of shaving.

BUT - I am seriously freaked out by that thing! The fact that you are gently gliding it against your jugular vein doesn't help either.

What do you think?

Not going to touch it. ^ Btw, here's a self-description of another DUmmy:

5. Personally, I wouldn't.

Looks dangerous. Probably pretty unlikely to do serious injury, but I bet you could end up with small painful cuts.

My beard is pretty thick, but I have sandy blond hair so no major dark shadow. And I grew it out so only shave small areas now.

Any possibility you could get a really good electric razor and just take it with you and shave in the men's room, your office, or car in the afternoons.

Otherwise, I say go with it, I see so many guys sporting the stubble look. I keep mine only barely longer, I have my iStubble trimmer (Conair capitalizing on Apple) set at 3 mm, which is enough

I have used a Fusion for several years and it is the best razor I ever had.
The inserts last forever, don`t clog up and shave as smooth as a billiard ball.

Is there anything these dolts can`t **** up?

Spend the money on a good one and learn to strop it properly and it's no more dangerous than a normal razor unless you're really shaky.

I miss using a straight razor. I think I know what I should ask for for Christmas now.

There's no way a straight razor could shave as closely, as quickly, or as safely as a three- or five-bladed Gillette razor.

They haven't spent countless millions on R&D for nothing.

But I still prefer the whitewalls a barber gives you with a straight razor.

Interesting thread, though.

Taverner and Dennis the Menace.

An intravenous drug addict and an officially, professionally diagnosed lunatic.

Between the two they consume enough drugs to swamp the DUmp.

It's not like he could pass a drug test for an actual 'Job,' one wonders what the big concern is about a five o'clock shadow on the unemployable drug addict's part.

Where does one get a strop these days ??????  Been years since I saw one, must have been a carry over from a great grand dad.

Got this sold on TV as about some new kind of hair removal thingies for woman that also works on men.   Only heard the ad from the TV in the living room so have just the idea that it burns off some how the hair.

Quick story, back when Nair first came out my Dad had a fit.   The Black sailors were using it on their face for a clean shave.   Problem was they were breaking out in all kinds of rashes after using it a few times. They would scratch and cause infection and scare the local bar girls when in port.

I have same and agree. Great razor.

I get about 8 shaves out of a cartridge - but bear in mind that's shaving the whole head once a week and I'm a hairy bastard too.

Remember DUmmies, when using a straight razor it's across the throat not with the grain.  :-)

I get by just using cheap disposable razors and whatever bar of soap's in the bathtub.

<<shaves while sitting in the bathtub; it saves time.

He has another thread in the DUmp Lounge pondering the moral liceity of extra-marital affairs...maybe he's trying to sleep around while the mail-order bride he had shipped over finishes divorcing him.

When Nair first came out, first thing I thought of was to slather it on a cat.
Never did.
Urge is still there.

I'm still using the same double-edge razor I had in boot.
Does a fine job.
It's getting hard to find blades for it anymore.

Yes. The duller and rustier the better.
