Title: Something for DUmpmonkeys to mull over
Post by: Skul on November 29, 2012, 07:21:40 PM
Seems an outfit called Salary dot com http://salary.com/8-college-degrees-with-the-worst-return-on-investment/slide/3/
did a little piece on return on investment, in regards to education.
Not going to list the full descriptions, just the name of each.
8. Sociology Worst return
7. Fine Arts
6. Education
5. Religious Studies/Theology
4. Hospitality/Tourism
3. Nutrition
2. Psychology
1. Communications The best of the worst
Many of these seem to be the dream jobs of primitives. (except Theology)
It's a money in for money out, and not meant to disparage the work those people do.

Hey, so I'm 'best of the worst'! (almost 28 years ago, that is . . .)  :-)

Number 7 is one I had figured out by myself long ago, and so why I went to law school instead of following my artistic bent.

And yet, we have a countrywide shortage of welders.

Spending upward of $150k to get an "Arts" degree is like just burning it.

I think we may have one of the largest thefts in our history when the democrat party nationalizes the $1,000 billion that has been wasted in higher education. A $1,000 billion from productive people to professors and administrators of total net redistribution. Pretty amazing for getting so little in return.

I think Fine Arts is something you should pursue in your spare time, and I think Hospitality & Tourism is stuff you learn pretty much on the job with a patient trainer.  I have a stepson with a sociology degree, and he's been destitute ever since.  However, he's doing something exciting now.  Rigging for a movie.  A rock climber, he's helping to build the ark for "Noah."    But it's not sociology.

I went to school with a guy that had a sociology degree.  He was working for the state earning $25,000 a year at the time.

Yeah, seems someone is always looking for welders around here, for good pay too.

If anyone puts out a "Help Wanted" sign for philosophers, he'll soon be up to his ass in DUmmies.

It's an idea worth filing away for the Great Round-up.
