Hello! Name is Gabe and I've been reading the board for awhile, and just registered so I can chime in on the economics board -- a real interest of mine. I was a life-long Republican who because independent in 2000, then registered as an R in 2012 for numerous reasons ranging from people always assuming I'm a Ron Paul libertarian, to the unable to vote in primaries, to gosh, a ton of reasons that would probably bore you to tears.
I love politics, baseball, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09BYP0a-6oIthe art of noise and other bands like them. Single and not looking, I am done with that game, ha!

Just out of curiosity, why did you become an independent in 2000?

Welcome!

Welcome to the cave!

Welcome Gabe, come on in and sit a spell.

Gabe, welcome! I'm also a baseball fan--I'm a Mets' fan (read: masochist). More conservative than a fair number of people in general, but I mesh right in with the board. If you've lurked for a while, you know the main players . . . ! :cheersmate:

I became an I in '00 primarily based on dissatisfaction with local politics here in the State of Oklahoma. Wasn't so much a reaction to what was going on with Bush/Gore etc... Republican's here are very liberal with regards to economics (lots of things like subsidies to sports facilities and other foolish things) so I did that. I wouldn't say things have changed a whole lot in those regads, but I think they will out of necessity soon...
The Mets have always been an interesting team. I was a big Darryl Strawberry fan growing up....did you know that he committed to attend Oklahoma State University originally, and would have batted clean-up behind Robin Ventura? That would have been some team! BTW congrats on your Cy Young winner...Dickey is a fine pitcher.

Welcome Gabe. One of the more amazing sports stories to come out of Massachusetts was the state not paying for the Patriots new stadium. Talk about irony. The Pats had never won a Super Bowl and Bob Kraft found no state money forth coming (a rarity for the state of Boondoggles). The rest is history.
BTW One of my great hopes was a Forbes / Watt ticket in 2000 but it was not to be.

Hi Gabe,
Welcome to CC!

Welcome.
I became a Republican when Reagan came on the scene but now I'm changing to Constitutional Party. The primary battles are always decided by the time my state (PA) votes anyway. I'm tired of liberal republicans.......like Specter. :whatever:

My husband went to OSU for two years. We are originally from Tulsa. Actually, I am originally from Omaha but moved to Tulsa when I was 15. He has family around Adair.
Glad you decided to join. :)

Welcome Gabe. I'm just across the border in the SW Missouri Ozarks. My folks voted Democrat in '32, and never again after that, so I grew up Republican.
