Title: Couple of good things happened today
Post by: ExGeeEye on November 21, 2012, 05:23:05 PM
My wife left me.

Yes, that's on the list of good things.

Here's the thing; my in-laws don't like me.  Therefore, they never visit.  Frankly, this suits me.  If they're bound and determined not to like me, best they don't come and express their dislike in person, even politely.

The downside of that is my wife rarely gets to see them.  Four times this year she has planned to go visit, and had to cancel at the last minute because somebody -- her, or somebody there -- got sick.  I think one visit was actually put off because of repairs to her parents' house.

Meantime, each time she plans a trip, I start making out my honey-do list.  Yes, folks, I write my own honey-do lists.  The tasks are the sorts of things that would upset her while they're in progress, but which she appreciates when they're done.  This week among other things, I'm setting up the Christmas tree and wrapping all my presents (to her -- I don't buy my own presents, though that would prevent certain other problems) and completely rearranging the living room to open up the space (she feels crowded).

Every time a trip of hers got cancelled, my list went back in the drawer.  Every time a trip was planned, I pulled out the list, reviewed it, removed some items, added others.

Today, my wife left me.  She'll be back next weekend.  Big yay.

Today I went through my dresser drawers and closet space like an avenging angel.  Out went anything that was too small, too big, or too the-only-way-I'm-wearing-that-is-if-she-buries-me-in-it.

On the good thing list; I had sequestered some pants at one end of my closet space for being too small.  As I pulled them out for disposal, I tried them on.  About 2/3 of them weren't too small anymore.  Now I'm a big fat person, or more so than I should be, but it looks like I dropped some pounds and/or inches over the past several months without trying.  Yay me.

One kitchen trash bag full of discarded clothing dropped off at Goodwill.  More yay!

Got the window ACs covered inside and out.  More yay.

Got the Christmas stuff in from the shed, the lawnmowers winterized, the rest of the leaves blown in a pile for pickup, and a load of laundry done.  Yippee-ki-yay.

Going to watch Firefly for a while.  This disc includes my favorite episode, "Out of Gas".  YAY!

Yay You indeed!  There isn't a better feeling than scratching off something on your to-do list!   :cheersmate:

I admire your style, Ex-GI.

Kind of a parallel situation with me. My MIL and FIL passed away a few years ago, so there are no concerns there. But my SIL and to a lesser extent, my BIL, don't care for me too much. My SIL thinks I beat up Mrs E ( :whatever: ) and because Mrs E knows that not to be true and has a problem with her sister in even suggesting that she (Mrs E) doesn't know enough to get out of a situation like that if it were true, the big to-do that the whole famn damily has on Thanksgiving results in both of us not darkening the doorway.

**** 'em.

Even Mrs. E celebrated some the other day when her family's newsletter arrived. The organizers had not assigned her a food item or task, because we simply haven't gone to the event the past 3-4 years now -- which suits me just fine. It's a 3-hour trip one-way and I'm just kinda tired of traveling right about now.

Anyway, not to look too darkly on this at all, but I can relate about the in-laws.

So we celebrate at home and where and when OTHER family comes over, hey, we've got lots of room and lots of food. Bring your appetites and your sense of humor, because we're not gonna focus on piddly bullshit lies.  :-)

Dear Lord in Heaven pray for me, as my boyfriend and I go to his sister's house.  Where we will meet up with the racist, democrat loving, union member.  Please, let's let this evening go in peace, and thank you for making people to make vodka, so I can have a bloody mary or two before the event.

This never ends up well.

So I should be watching the news tonight in case IssaFlots makes the ten o'clock news?

I had most of my immediate family here today.

Both of my kids and my parents.  It has been almost 15 years since I had that privilege.  It was a great day.

I didn't invite my brother, as I know he would have been unable to make it.  But we had a get together with his family over Labor Day.

A long but relatively uneventful day.  No blood was shed.  All is good.   :cheersmate:

My stepson and I got into it a little bit. He's all about wealth redistribution. Of course, this is a 35-year-old who just recently sobered up from 20 years of drinking and drugs and joined the rest of humanity. He's lived with daddy for just about all of the time he's spent after high school (which he had to go back for and finish a year later because he dropped out), and really doesn't have half a clue about bank accounts, mortgages, electric bills, and grocery shopping.

But no blood was shed, though I was tempted to ask a simple question:

"After you make your first million dollars from being a professional musician and hit it big on the charts ( :whatever: ), how much of your first million are you going to be willing to have the government extort from you -- simply because they can?"

I got to go out to an elegant dinner this year and didn't have to cook and clean up for a change.  Yay-me!!  Beautiful restaurant, seated next to a fire place and looking out their big bay window at a rosy sunset.   Lovely..

Oh, and the food, service and company was superb too.... :-)

And those poor people slaving away on a Holiday just to serve you.   :fuelfire:

Thursday was my day off from work. I cooked and ate alone. I enjoyed it. After I had started cooking I had an invitation to go out to eat with my mother and a couple of her friends, I passed. I was later told the food sucked. I knew that before they went.

So, Eupher, when exactly did you stop beating your wife...?
