Got any tips for writing a cover letter and resume?
It's sort of a hypothetical cover letter and resume for a class I'm taking. I probably won't be graduating until 2015 and my resume is supposed to reflect where I'll be at the time and what I think I'll be looking for. So it's not for a job search yet, but it will be graded and I want to do well on it.
By 2015 I'll have 18 years experience as a commercial truck driver and a new B.S. in business administration with a minor in entrepreneurship. I figure my experience in the trucking industry and my degree will make me a good candidate for a management position

Some decent and civilized people may recognize DUmmy Tobin S. as a longtime regular in the DUmp's loonybin.
A nut himself, he's often seen counseling the officially diagnosed lunatic Dennis the Menace (with zero success, since Dennis is crazier than a shithouse rat).
Anyway, DUmmy Tobin S. is as likely to get a job as a middle linebacker in the Super Bowl as an executive position in the trucking industry.
He needs to check with the mysteriously absent DUmmy rsmithnumbers for some serious tips on resume writing.
Oh, and DUmmy Tobin S., a minor in entrepreneurship
- WTF?
Another DUmmy enrolled at Matchbook Cover University.

"Entrepreneurship" is like "management."
It's a skill or talent one's born with, or not.
One can't "educate" one to be an entrepreneur or manager.
Some of the worst managers, for example, are people with college degrees in management but who were born without natural management skills.
If one doesn't have it to begin with, it can't be educated into him.
-
Actually, Entrepreneurship is a valid major or minor in many business fields. Here is an example:
http://businessmajors.about.com/od/degreeoptions/a/Should-I-Earn-An-Entrepreneurship-Degree.htm
Simple Google search:
http://www.google.com/search?q=entrepreneurship+degree&aq=f&oq=entrepreneurship+degree&sugexp=chrome,mod=0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Having said that, just become one has a degree doesn't mean one will be successful. One would think, however, that to be a successful entrepreneur, UNLESS he was handling the cheetos and pot sales/delivery market, a DUmmie would be the worst subject for such a course of study.

Frank, this is a rare moment where you stumbled a bit. If it's a skill, then it can be taught, refined, studied, and practiced until one becomes as good as one can be at it. The US Army seems to think leadership is a skill and has entire courses of study devoted to it and it's application. Even what many people call talent are skill sets that have been practiced over and over again until they are second nature. It is possible to find a great many people that disagree with the Army about leadership.
People may learn and practice attributes that are not conducive to good (whatever it is that they are doing), but with an open mind and determination they can become better skilled at it.
-
He already failed his minor in 'entrepreneurship when he voted for Obama. Dumb ass.
-
All joking aside its nice to see a dummie studying something other then women's studies or creative writing. Hopefully he will learn something along the way that gives him pause for his nutty political affiliation and how detrimental that philosophy is to the very subject he's studying.

I stumble all the time, but never mind.
I probably didn't express myself well enough here.
Unless the person actually was born with the skill to "supervise others," if the individual has some sort of character flaw, all the education in the world isn't going to make him a competent manager.
Look at the Die alte Sau for example, the "Proud2BLibKansan" primitive--she probably has some pretty awesome credentials on paper, a lot of education, but one senses she's a lousy teacher anyway, because all of her energy's spent Hating. She wasn't born with any natural talents to teach; she was born with a vigorous "need" to Hate.
All the education and training in the world isn't going to help her be a good teacher.
There has to exist at least some natural talent or skill in something, for one to "learn" to be "trained" to do well at it.
All the education and training in the world isn't going to help franksolich to think like a woman.
One can try, but it'd be futile, because it's not in franksolich, not an iota, to think like a woman.
-
I can tell right away that alas the Toby primitive has no natural talents in entrepreneurship.
A person naturally an entrepreneur is, usually, a person willing to take risks, a person acting upon his own initiative, a person willing to think outside the box, a person who thinks for himself.
Someone with the natural talents of an entrepreneur wouldn't be asking others how to write a letter; he'd just write the damned letter.

I agree, Frank, and I've been puzzling over this DUmmie's major. We didn't have that major when I got my BBA. To me, entrepeneurship is a state of mind, a worldview; not something you major in like high finance, accounting, or marketing. I wonder how they structure the degree? I wonder how they reconcile with the hard left doctrine of the academic world?

Question here-------How can a Liberal run or even help manage any kind of private company ???
Can a Liberal ever become a company man and work for the success of the company and their share holders over union demands ??
I have seen a few CEO's of big company's come and go, the ones that were booted were the most liberal towards the workers. A non union company where a manager decides to surprise the workers with a bonus and the share holders yell about that money not being thrown back into the company for expansion or repairs for example.
Some of the most hardened bosses I have ever met were the job insurance for their workers. Real sharks in every way. Workers that had been with the company 15-30 years from the top down were in more danger of their job then the lumpers and humpers and the person that cleaned the bathrooms.
When hard times hit we workers some years did not get a bonus, or holiday parties, we may have had 3-4 one 0r 2 weeks layoffs through the year but we could collect unemployment for that short time. Pay check was allways on time and it was the supervisors that lived in fear of the pink slip, we were safe.
Good managers work With the workers to improve a product, they do not just stand around and watch one man dig a ditch, they jump in the hole with them and do a bit of digging with them. Best one I ever had came to work sort of undercover [ we were told he was a nephew of some big wig,] and began to work the loading docks, on to the actual production lines, spent time with following the mechanics about getting all greasy and bunged up knuckles. He spent no time in the office, he was on the floor and not watching us workers he was watching our supervisors and how they handled problems that came up. After 6 weeks or so he headed back to his job ,paperwork, in a nice clean office and in a month 3 supervisors were replaced. He was very nice to the hour wage folks but a bastard to work for by the salaried people. Production and sales went sky high, all the over time one wanted or could handle and one woman that could hardly speak English made over $40,000 that year.
BTW this man was a Southern Gentleman from Georgia and not one to fraternize with anyone in the plant. In no way a Liberal, he had a fit when the first Holiday season came up and there was no Xmas tree in the cafeteria.
Aside from the fact that 60% of the workers were not Christian that Tree went up.

What??? He is going to go to work in the corporate world as a capitalist... :rotf: (B.S. in business administration with a minor in entrepreneurship.) and these people are cheering him on??? :thatsright: Or, Are they waiting to crucify him until he makes his 1st pay check???? :fuelfire:

"Entrepreneurship" may be available somewhere as a course of study.
If so, like many fringe courses it exists mainly to attract federal student loan dollars, not to assist students in the real world.
Instructing a mentally-ill DUmpmonkey like Tobin S. on "entrepreneurship" is as useful as teaching a course in physics to housecats.
I'd be willing to bet that DUmmy Tobin S. is enrolled in a for-profit program, most likely online.
-
They'll teach anything as long as enough people are willing to pay for it. If the classes are worth anything is another issue entirely.

I haven't really got a comment about the DUmbass, but I do want to compliment GOBUCKS on a write up that is very entertaining.

Why in the hell would anyone seek counsel from the chronically-unemployed DUmmies on how to write a resume?
Isn't that a bit like writing Lyndon LaRouche for advice on how to win a Presidential election?

Perhaps I should have said it was a rare moment where I disagrees in part with you...ah, well.
Proud2BLibKansan is a terrible teacher. It's partly because she never bothered to continue learning to be a teacher. She decided at some point that her and the union know best and no one else should have input.

Which is partially why teachers unions are worthless. They encourage complacency.
The former Mrs. Wiggum is a non-union teacher. Yet she kept up with continuing education, as have I in the accounting field. You have to in order to be current with the times.
