President Obama is considering nominating Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) to serve as Secretary of Defense, replacing Leon Panetta in the role, according to a published report.
The move is "part of an extensive rearrangement" of Obama's national security team, the Washington Post reported Monday, and will likely include a successor for former CIA director David Petraeus, who resigned Friday amid allegations of an affair.
Kerry-- who helped Obama prep in the recent presidential debates -- is said to have been gunning for Secretary of State. But aides said U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, will likely be the top candidate for the cabinet post, according to the report.
Officials said Obama's chief of counterterrorism, John Brennan, is in the running for the CIA job.
A consequence of Kerry being made a cabinet member would be a vacant U.S. Senate seat for Massachusetts. This could mean that recently defeated Republican Sen. Scott Brown would seek the seat and perhaps take it for the GOP.
White House aides would not comment on the potential cabinet picks on Monday evening.

Just when you think the level of incompetence, ineptitude and immorality in Obie's cabinet can't get any higher...a man who throws his medals away.

What better way to give the military the middle finger for favoring Romney 2-1 over him.

The bastard that threw away the records of MIA's and POW's.

Oh dear God, they want to keep failing, don't they? They sure as hell will if they have that elitist horsefaced schmuck in as the face of our national defense.

The next four years is going to be one hell of a ride.

If I hadn't seen the same thing on the news today, I'd think this was an Onion story.

But look at the bright side. MA will have to hold a special election to replace him. Wouldn't it be AWESOME if Scott Brown took that seat?

Would Sec. of State be Susan Rice's reward for lying to the American people about Benghazi ?

What is the conformation process? How many votes do they need?

Yes.

IRRC they just need 51 I don't think it's a super majority that's needed.

Horseface will be the the Sec of Def? The guy who hates our military forces? What's wrong with that picture?

Nothing at all if you hate the military like Obama does. However, Kerry wants to be Sec. of State, but it isn't up to him. 0bama is the King and moves his pawns where he wants them.

This would be paybacks for two people who know the military...by a rather large margin...voted against them.

Watch McCain vote for him and Rice :argh:

I hear he wants the governor position when Deval gets his cabinet or czar post - although Deval is denying wanting one now. The fool thinks he will be president. His entire tenure in MA has been steeped in scandal after scandal.

Brown will not be governor, and Patrick better get used to not being a member of Obama's second term administration.
Harsh, but don't see MA electing a Republican governor anytime soon unless--UNLESS--Warren is such a soup sandwich he comes out when he runs and (nicely) tells MA, "I told ya so."
