Dear America, I know how much you like to commemorate veterans and it's great...
But please don't forget that were are women veterans. Right now, there are over 2 million of us in the United States. Please, don't look down on us for saying we're veterans because we are women (which is what happened tonight at Olive Garden).
I was told twice that I was ordering off the wrong menu (the one for veterans). The second waitress asked for proof and looked at me like I was a lying piece of trash. I provided my VA card which says "service connected" on the front of it.
This was actually a demeaning experience.

OMG the horror, you had to prove that you were actually a veteran to get a free dinner. :whatever:
Here's a clue for you DUmmies, if people like you didn't exist then they wouldn't have to ask for proof before handing out a free meal. But they know there are lying scumbags out there who will try to score a free meal.
It also bugs me that Olive Garden is doing something nice that they don't have to do and this DUmmy comes up with a reason to complain. Typical DUmmy give em something free and they still bitch.
You have a president who has been told to show is birth certificate for 4 years. :>)
Hang in there...
Ohh boo ****ing hoo. I had to show more documentation to get a freaking driver's license in the state of FL than 0bama had to for the job of preezy.

Um, what the hell is that? Is it like a VRWC card (mine is up for renewal - I heard the fees are going up though, dang!).
My husband's ID looks exactly the same as it did on AD except it's now a different color since he retired.

She's probably on 90% disability for breaking a nail or something. This is a DUmmy, after all.

Yep I'm also guessing she probably weighs 400lbs and the waitresses found it hard to believe that someone that huge could have ever served in the military. :-)
As far as I know every restaurant that offers this requires proof, and I don't blame them one bit.

I would have demanded that she show her tax returns

Two separate Id's. One is a Military ID the other is a Veterans administration ID. One proves a persons Military Retirement status the other proves Military service.

Boo freaking hoo DUmb@ss. I was asked for proof as well today, what did you think they were going to give away something without verification? That sh^t only works when you run for President or want a government subsidy. I still thank you for your service, although I suspect that you made our military better when you left it.

I don't think he has a Veteran's administration ID, but totally not sure. I will ask him.

That;s a good point. Lowe's has a standing 10% off for veterans that runs all year. My husband has to show his ID everytime he asks for it (and he looks military - always will).

It's an I.D. card the V.A. issues when you enroll in their health care system.

Same here, Lowe's, Bass Pro, and others all provide a discount to active and retired military members when you show them proof, usually an active duty or retired ID card. Please pass on my Thank You to your husband for his service and to you and your family for the countless sacrifices made over the course of his career.

I have a veterans ID card issued by the Commonwealth of VA. I think other states may offer something similar.

Wait a tic. OG is part of the Darden Restaurant Group they're supposed to be boycotting, but they're okay with catching a free meal from them?
I guess their principles can be outweighed by a good case of the munchies. LOL

Never underestimate the lure of bad food, especially if it's free. :p

What a bunch limp noodles! :mental:

If OG didn't at least make an effort to require some sort of proof, every DUmpmonkey would claim status.
Primitives are like that.
DUmmies lie, always, DUmmies lie.

Sounds like she did not retire, did not get put on the disabled-retired list by her service, but then went through the (More lenient) VA process to get her 'chronic back injury,' psychological issues, or some such other difficult to dispute malady adjudged as service-connected and so has that for an ID to prove veteran status instead of any kind of DOD ID.
Other than educational benefits, I've never had a file with VA, so I haven't got one of those cards. I'm covered by TriCare now that I've retired, and whatever may be wrong with me physically I just ascribe to 37-odd years of normal wear-and-tear in uniform full- and part-time.

HEY!!
-
So, someone offers freebies that DUmmies aren't entitled to......DUmmies get pissed.
-
How could that wench have served in the military and get so offended by being asked for her ID? Anyone that easily offended should have been left outside in the cold at the recruiting station.

Service Connected? :lmao:
And I am a woman that served and I have really never been asked to produce ID. I am very happy to but they trust my word that I should get a military discount if offered. Maybe she just looks untrustworthy. :???:

People who are enrolled in the VA medical system are provided an ID card. The words "service connected" are immediately below the picture on the front of the card.

I am just laughing at the need to put out every detail of the card.

You know, young people aren't always that smart. They get these preconceptions in their heads from school and television and since most lack any sort of wordily experience they pre-judge and when they bother to vote at all they vote against their futures.
Instead of feeling hurt and looked down upon take it as an opportunity to educate.
I'm assuming young people because whenever I eat at Olive Garden it is always young people. But I could imagine a crusty old DUmmie or two finally needing to get work and working at a place like Olive Garden for a short time until their personality wore out their welcome.

Not a problem. :-)

It's done for record keeping & billing expediency. All veterans are entitled to avail themselves of VA Care & services although only retired personnel & serviced connected disability personnel are provided care and service free of charge. Others are billed on a sliding scale through direct billing, insurance , medicare etc.
