You know, this was promised like, six weeks ago.

A lesson in NEVER giving up -- 221 pounds gone and below 300 for first time in over 20 years.
This morning was one of the happiest and emotionally draining which I've had the pleasure of experiencing in many years. My journey from the clutches of super-morbid obesity has just passed one of its most important milestones, in that for the first time since late '90 or early '91 I am carrying less than 300 pounds on my 6'3" frame.
This has been accomplished only with the help of diet. Few people escape major illness once they have topped the 500 pound mark, and sadly I'm the rule and not the exception. I won't get into excessive gory detail here, but among my more serious problems was (and continues to be though to a lesser extent) ulcerations of the legs and feet due to type 2 diabetes and venous insufficiency. Finding shoes to wear which aren't excruciatingly painful is very difficult, and so walking remains difficult for me, especially now that one of my knees is about to completely give out. It is a blessing -- in a perverse sort of way I guess -- that this knee managed to hold without locking and buckling until now, because having that problem on top of all the others would have rendered me totally immobile. As it is now I can't carry anything breakable or weighing more than a couple of pounds lest I drop it, because I have to have something to lean on at all times just to shuffle around; but most of my excess weight is now gone and that has to count for something!
I have Dr. John McDougall and his McDougall Plan, which is a plant-based diet of mostly complex starches, supplemented with veggies and fruits, to thank for this slow but prolonged weight loss. I truly believe I owe Dr. McDougall my very life at this point. There is just no way I could have progressed this far without such a low calorie density eating plan, but the best news of all is that after several years of eating this way my appetite has dropped considerably which then lends itself to more natural weight loss.
I'm still kind of drained and tired from the news on the scale this morning, so I'm going to stop for now. Any DUers with questions, feel free to ask!

Unless you have glandular problems, I have zero tolerance for morbidly obese people. It is a flaw in their inner character. I will make fun of you in hope that you change from my ridicule. 300 much less 500 pounds is outrageous. Does the fat DUche know that he will get ZERO medical procedures under obamataxcare? I have a buddy that is fat but mostly from having ruined his knees working and ceasing activity due to pain. He goes to the VA (real Vietnam veteran) and they told him he had to lose 60 pounds before they would do any operations on his knees. The VA is what otaxcare will be like only worse. If he had gone to them two years ago he would have gotten it by now.

Kirk and his flippers! I'm sure he sees it as a blessing because it's a handy excuse for laying around the hovel all day, playing his premium computer games, bitching at Jeanette to get a job, and complaining about all the free handouts we give him.
But the leviathan is a DUmmy, and DUmmies lie, all the time they lie. If he's under 300, then I'm approaching anorexia. Pretty sure the LVL is still in the 400-500 range.

A bit of toughening up of the bottom of his feet and he could go around without shoes, and then it wouldn't be an issue anymore.

becaues you are fat and liberal eh? How about fat, lazy, and full of excuses is more like it? I know plenty of WOMEN who are a foot shorter then you and carry that much and more and WORK ON THEIR FEET EVERYDAY. cook and clean their homes EVERYDAY. Care for children. Many of those went on to lose weight and engage more fully in life. I'm one and I know many other inspirational women, liberal and conservative like me. What mattered is they never made excuses and the majority continued to work through their morbid obesity. Many now run marathons and got there in a lot less time then it took you to shed what you did. It's not your weight hindering you now, LVL, it's your liberal attitude of a disability lifestyle. Prove us wrong, buddy. Work through that pain, get off your ass so your legs can get more circulation and heal--get off the ****ing gaming sites and move more then you do.
So tired of this bullshit. Like he's the first fat person to ever be where he is. Give me a ****ing break!
You also are ungrateful to boot seeing as you are biting the very hand that feeds you. It's that attitude that has people pissed at takers brother. I am on the heavy side. and I WORK. I pay for my food. I pay for my car. I pay for everything.
I don't get govt help. I recently lost weight too. My pants are too big. I sew them tighter because I'm not going to ask the govt for new clothes.
You dare me to be fat and liberal. Dude, that is just stupid. If I was to live like you, I would live hand to mouth on the crumbs tossed down to me by a liberal govt. Unlike you, I have PRIDE. I will not live on the govt dole. I see disability as something to help disabled people, not a gravy train for lazy assholes like yourself.
I will never be liberal. If all is lost, and I have no hope of employment...I have enough money set aside to buy a ticket to Hawaii. I will head into the most rugged terrain I can find and fish, scavenge and farm for a few years.

So did I. It only took a short time for my feet to toughen each summer, but even tough feet would fry on Las Vegas summer pavement.
No one I knew ever had tennis shoes until we were in high school.
Only a very few rich kids had 10-speeds with those skinny tires.

Yep and that's why I pointed out I've worked and run next to liberal women who were heavy and managed to condition themselves to run 5k's and half marathons. Not a one uttered George Bush as the reason for their plight. Plenty though as they widdled the weight around got honest about what got them there: too much of the wrong foods and lack of activity. They knew that they needed nobody but themselves to change both of those things. So, the 'liberal and fat' meme is ridiculous and dishonest since I know plenty people who qualify as both who don't endlessly make excuses and blame others for where they are. If they still do, even while losing weight, the will inevitably be fat again. Why? Because you still aren't being honest with YOURSELF about why you are overweight and it's easy to blame away everyday of overeating and lack of activity on everyone but the person who is doing it to you:yourself.

Well, if the Las Vegas Leviathan has a problem wearing shoes, this puts me in a quandary, trying to help him find a job.
A long time ago, when I first became acquainted with the Las Vegas Leviathan, I thought perhaps he could work as one of those movie-theater ushers wearing a red uniform and carrying a flashlight with him, pompously escorting patrons to seats in the darkness.
I've never been to Las Vegas, but I assume they have a lot of theaters there, and job opportunities are unlimited.
I forget the reason this didn't fly--this was a few years ago--but anyway, it didn't fly.
So then I thought perhaps he could work as a bell-boy in a hotel, wearing a round cap and red uniform, rushing to be helpful to guests. That'd probably take off more weight than being an usher, and as there's a certain sort of decadent woman who gets turned on by rotund bell-boys, he'd probably get good tips.
When it was pointed out he would have to use the hotel's freight elevator, rather than one of the regular ones, because of weight-limits on what an elevator can carry, that bright idea had to be discarded.
So then I thought perhaps the Las Vegas Leviathan could be one of those guys walking around the congested sidewalks of the city, a sign in front of him, and a sign in back of him, advertising something. Then alas I learned that's not a job commonly available, any more than a job as an Italianate hurdy-gurdy man of yore.
When he got around to mentioning the size of his feet, and that it hurt him to walk, I most recently thought he could be a doorman standing underneath the marquee of a hotel, greeting guests as they came in, and getting tips for doing nothing other than just opening the door for them, and summoning a bell-boy.
Las Vegas has a lot of hotels; I'll bet there's plenty of vacancies for doormen, and with feet that size and him just having to stand there, not walking at all, he's not likely to fall down.
Inbetweentimes, others here generously suggested jobs such as with a carnival freak-show, or starring in pornographic movies.
Now that the Las Vegas Leviathan's revealed that he can't wear shoes, oops, more limits on what he can do in a job.
There's not much of a call for people who work shoeless, other than smashing grapes with their feet, but those jobs are in France, not in Las Vegas.
Then like Saul on the Road to Damascus, it dawned on me.
I never paid much attention to activities going on around swimming pools, but I imagine the people who work at pools run around in skimpy bathing-trunks, barefooted. Even though it's in the middle of a desert, I reasonably assume Las Vegas has dozens and scores and hundreds of swimming pools.
Perhaps the Las Vegas Leviathan should consider going into the life-guarding profession.

I had another idea.
Around here, in any commercial neighborhood, every street corner on weekends has some unfortunate spinning a big sign announcing the greatest mattress sale of the century.
It's really amazing, how many sales with unprecedented savings are available.
Footwear is optional, and healthy exercise is available depending on the weight of the sign and how much spinning the guy decides to do.
There are still people living in Las Vegas, and they all need mattresses.
