What is it about certain segments of the population in the US that makes them feel:

1. That taxation is "theft"

2. That government is "the problem"

3. That they want social programs, but don't want to pay for them

4. That poor people, minorities, etc. are "entitled"-ironic, considering the immense sense of entitlement from people who "want to take our country back!"

Is there something fundamental about right-wing ideology and attitudes that makes people feel morally justified in being selfish assholes? Is it worse in America than in other countries? If so, why?

These are just some questions I have been pondering...

Is it worse in America...'?  Yeah, at least compared to some countries.  Several years ago I read

The European Dream' (a la 'The American Dream'), by Jeffrey Tobin, I think, and the premise of the book was basically that *with exceptions on both sides*, Europeans care more about the greater good and Americans are more self-centered (present company probably very much excepted).

And on your (2), yeah, I've been kind of bewildered about this for years.  My dad was a state college professor, and when I was growing up, I never thought, nor ever heard my parents say anything bad about, the government or taxes.  Certain specific politicians, yes!  But never the govt. as a whole.  Whether it was the post office, national park rangers, state parks & wildlife guys, state agencies, whatever I was around growing up, I thought the government was basically GOOD, actually.  And still think it is, or can be, with the right people running it.

REALLY REALLY steaming...

Stagnant economy, high unemployment, military that will soon be unbolted and thrown away, multi generational welfare families, rule by executive fiat, millions more taking from the government than giving to it, and you ****s voted for four more years.

We're the ones with the money.  Not sure where they get this "we" stuff from when it's us who are paying the taxes and they who are receiving the benefits.  Might be time for we as individuals to take back what is ours.

Give them a few years when real unemployment is stagnant or worst, inflation is rising, etc... and they'll be complaining about how conservatives aren't cooperating with the "we" society they want everyone to voluntarily join and how things in the country aren't going anywhere.  I mean, I automatically know where they'll put the blame.  Meh, I don't want anything to do with the political left and their silly ideas, so let them point fingers and complain.

What kind of society is it, when a huge portion of the population sits on it's ass and expects things from the other part of society?  Kleptocracy?  Feudalism, perhaps?  Learn this and learn it well DUmasses, we aren't your serfs or your slaves.

You preen over how evolved you think you are because you really, really care about the plight of single moms, which is really laughble when your policies created the situation and perpetuate it.  You think women are nothing more than their reproductive system.

You tell the blacks that Romney was going to put them in chains, and then tell them that they are not allowed independent thought, for that is when you show your true feelings.  You see a group.  I see individuals.

You want to work?  You want to take care of your family and kids?  We might get along.  Then again you might find that those programs truly are destructuve.

Wait, my tax dollars are seized by the government to pay for shit like roads and the welfare state and when I use the road, I'm supposed to be "grateful" to the government that seized the money from me to build the damn road in the first place? Am I reading that right?

I have never been an ungrateful, selfish, greedy, hateful asshole until I woke up Wednesday morning Nov. 7, 2012, knowing I was going to be forced to pay for things I feel I shouldn't pay for.

I've come around and now believe that taxation is not theft and that it is patriotic to pay them. Of course, this means everybody pays them. I have come to the conclusion that all Bush tax rates should go back to the Clinton rates to assure prosperity. I hope that the republicans in the HOR come to that same conclusion and let them all lapse for the good of the country. The "Buffet Rule" would generate $70 billion in federal taxes. The expiration of all current federal tax rates would increase by a total of $423 billion in 2013. See the real money is not in those 1%ers but with the rest of the tax payers. $423 billion would pay for 100 days of Obama deficit spending. It's not a complete solution but it is the best we have. With the Obama initiated sequestration spending cuts we could get our deficit down in the $600 billion per year range. Just looking at the favored static model that is so popular with leftists.

Remember leftists, it is patriotic to pay taxes and that Bush's tax cuts only helped the rich. Everyone has to have some skin in the game according to 0bama and letting all of the evil Bush tax rates revert to Saint Clinton's would bring us all economic prosperity.

RE Jukin's post.  The EITC big fat checks are currently pretty generous.  Under Saint Clinton's rates, they're next to friggin nothing.  You'll be eating crumbs, literally.  Cat food will be too expensive.
