Title: Isolated NYC borough says help is slow after Sandy

Quote
Garbage is piling up, a stench hangs in the air and mud-caked mattresses and couches line the streets. Residents are sifting through the remains of their homes, searching for anything that can be salvaged.

"We have hundreds of people in shelters," said James Molinaro, the borough's president. "Many of them, when the shelters close, have nowhere to go because their homes are destroyed. These are not homeless people. They're homeless now."

Molinaro complained the American Red Cross "is nowhere to be found" — and some residents questioned what they called the lack of a response by government disaster relief agencies.

O had his photo op and then walked away.
The carnage is sounding as bad or worse then Katrina.

Sandy is going to turn into obama's Katrina. It was nice of him to go to the scene for a photo op then go back to do what he has been doing for the past four years, besides playing golf, campaigning. obama is such a loser.

Christie is going to soon regret the serious ass kissing he did for his state, cause at the end of the day the messiah - he just don't care.

The hurricane-ravaged east coast has been receiving north Alabama help, but crews learned they'll be doing work in Long Island, New York instead of in New Jersey. Crews from Decatur Utilities headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees. (http://www.waff.com/story/19981857/some-nonunion-ala-crews-turned-away-from-sandy-recovery)

Could this be one of the causes of the slow recovery???

Don't be silly it can't be the unions fault. It's the repuke governor's fault.

Where is Christie on this?  Isn't there some provision to overrule stuff like this in an emergency?

But someone on the news this morning said that the union thugs in Jersey have been known to sabotage anothers work that they think is on their turf.

Charles Payne was talking about that on F&F.  He said they are ruthless, they don't care about anybody but themselves.  Thugs, through and through.

Big government services, on full display.

I can tell you right now that "closed shop" state or not, anyone who would have turned help away from here would have been ridden out of town on a rail.

Maybe there will be a blessing in disguise in all of this.

The people living up there who thought unions were a good thing, will find out they aren't.

The people who know unions can be bad, will have support in breaking them apart.

Those who thought Obama was so wonderful to come so quickly to their aid, will find out he did nothing to help them.

The people who thought the government would, should, could take care of them in a massive disaster, will find out that the government can't do everything....sometimes you have to get off your ass and help yourself AND your neighbor.

It wasn't the federal government who helped us clean up Joplin after the tornado. It was local churches. If you live close, organize your church group to go help for a day or two. It is only a day, but makes a huge difference to those you're helping. I know, I live in Joplin where the EF-5 tornado hit. See Joplin Tornado Book (http://www.joplintornadobook.com)www.joplintornadobook.com for proof an pics.

Here's how I'd divvy up any relief supplies that come in.

I'd gather everything up that's been donated by the public...all that water from Trump...clothing and blankets from the Red Cross SA etc...the $5000 in food Romney donated.

Then I'd pull out the voter rolls.

Everyone that voted for Romney/Ryan...step forward and get what you need.

Everyone that voted for Obama/Biden...please take a seat....your union approved Big Government support will get here sometime in the next 10-15 days...depending on when FEMA can get its act together.

Don't complain folks you get what you vote for.

I know he has never acted like a President, but come on. There are millions of people suffering here. HE HAS TO DO SOMETHING BESIDES SITTING ON HIS ASS! If Bush was still in office, the MSM would be crucifying him right now.

Imagine if George Bush had "closed" FEMA.

We'd still be hearing about it.

Hey now, you know government workers really care about people.....they just can't be inconvenienced while doing it.

What's surprising is how unprepared FEMA was, knowing this storm was coming and what to expect.  Wasn't FEMA put under DHS?  Where's Napalitano?  Blooming idiot and even Pataki sound useless.

A lot of good American-owned companies are reaching out to help. My favorite is the company that is giving away free trees to anyone who had their yard damaged by Sandy, Fast Growing Trees Nursery. Legit deal and it's STILL going on. Some people never forget. http://www.fast-growing-trees.com/ShadeTrees.htm

Could this be one of the causes of the slow recovery???

Same reason most of the Marines were pulled out. They were doing tons of free work that would have otherwise been gone to various labor groups for a price.

I talked to a couple of women last week from Staten Island and one last night from Brooklyn. Brooklyn didn't have any damage, but both SI women did.

They are not happy campers up there. Thoroughly disgusted with FEMA and said they are getting more help from people who are living up there and volunteering to help than from government. Brooklyn said last night that she  has neighbors who don't have power yet. She never lost hers. She said she didn't know how she got so lucky.

FOX is still covering the disaster left by Sandy.  I heard the same things about how FEMA and the government have been almost useless.  A woman on F&F this morning said there was still no organization, no plan and no communication.

We also weren't allowed to help fly stuff around forever because each time FEMA used us, they had to pay us from their budget. And we all know they weren't giving up their dollars even if it meant someone in Rockaway was cold for the night. After all, FEMA has their generators setup first. They'll worry about how to get stuff into these areas in the morning. Or maybe three mornings from now.

Just an FYI re: sending away non-union workers.  It was traced back to an Alabama paper and there is no truth to rumor.  There were multiple sources on the denial, governmental, union and utility company.  The good folks of the devastated areas (of which I was one until recently [a good folk]), would have strung up anyone who would have prevented the return of power, water or gas.
