Women’s rights activist visits students on her campus voting tour
Women’s rights activist Sandra Fluke made an appearance on Turlington Plaza on Wednesday to encourage students to utilize early voting for next week’s presidential election.
About 40 students gathered by the potato statue to listen.
Victoria Joyal, a 21-year-old computer engineering senior and Vox: Voices for Planned Parenthood officer, said she was happy Fluke came to rally students.
“I’ve noticed that a lot of people aren’t as enthusiastic about voting as they should be,” Joyal said. “Having a notable person will get people more excited to vote.”
-
Yeah, everyone loves to have a notable speaker, but you might want to think about why they are notable before you go praising them.
Hey Victoria, you do know Sandra is only notable because of the amount of money she demands from the government to cover the cost of her having sex, right?

Following the speech, Fluke walked students to an early voting van, which took students to polling places in Alachua County. If they voted for Obama, they got a turn at fluking Fluke.

That's what it looks like, a potato. It's a piece of chert rock.
If you would like to see it, the sniper scene of the movie "Parenthood" was filmed there.
100 yards away is a sculpture universally known as "the french fries"

It's like the Venus de Milo, only really fat and without a head.
Fitting.

You know there is actually a statue in Enterprise, Alabama, commemorating a boll weavel?
I painted that sucker red one night, about 43 years ago. :lmao:
Maybe it was 45, I don't recall the year. :rotf:
Had to be '68.
Crap, now I feel old.

I don't know, the first thing that went through my head was 'gee, that sort of looks like an enormous ball sack'.
I have a feeling that I'm not alone, and that is why Ms. Fluke felt the urge to be near it.
-
Looks like a fat girl to me.
I came to the same conclusion.

Who the heck pays for these statues ??????
Statues are to commemorate great people that have been part of out culture. What is the symbolism of this creepy thing ???
Who was the [Artist ] ?????? and how did the comunity get suckered into buying this what ever ??????
-
The taxpayers of the state of Florida paid for it. It's on the campus of the University of Florida.
Public buildings in FL are required by law to have a certain percentage of their construction costs go to buy "art".
-
That's the one. :rotf: :lmao:
Head over to R.I. sometime, they have Mr./Mrs. Potato head statues everywhere and a few license plates also feature the Hasbro toy.

From the Communist Goals, entered into the congressional record in 1963

22) Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all form of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings," substitute shapeless, awkward, and meaningless forms.
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."

40 students is nothing on the UF campus, especially that location. That is literally the center of campus, virtually every student walks through that plaza at some point during the day. At any given time, even during classes, there's at least 50 students hanging out there, so if they're counting 40, that means some left when she arrived. The local street preacher draws a bigger crowd.
-
It's just a rock... I doubt anybody actually paid for it, other than standing it up on its end.
