Okay, California doesn't suck.
Now I have spent most of my life in either Texas or Idaho, so I've been fed and I guess believed that California sucks, and Californians suck.

So let's update my ongoing saga of homelessness and my gypsying around the western states trying to find a place to fit in and restart and grow my biz. If you recall, my last stop was in Phoenix area... well that didn't end up going so well. After five months I still knew nearly no one, no one had real interest in my unique biz, and I was getting political and therefore conversational fatigue from all the winger nutjobs, and lastly the fellow whose backyard I was parked in, got off his meds and was becoming threatening, so I left.

After trying New Mexico, Portland to Seattle, and Phoenix, I decided to give in and head to LA where I have a long time friend with a backyard. As a matter of fact we have even intermittently worked for each other, he building and adapting my old process cameras years ago, and me providing videos for his new products. So about a month and a half ago I arrived in LA. Since then I've been battling a MRSA outbreak on my arms so I haven't been as forceful about getting out to crow about my biz as I did in other areas because my arms looked like hamburger and it was too hot to wear sleeves. After two ER visits (sorry CA taxpayers, I'm going to try hard to get those bills paid) and $250 in meds, the arm is seeming to clear up finally.

But surprise surprise, I love it here! I've been videoing some local motor sports events just to stay on top of things, and the response has been wonderful! I've talked to a few folks about what I do, and they think it's a great new concept. I've even made a few bucks in tips from the motor sports videos. After spending anywhere from 5-9 months in each of the aforementioned places, I had made exactly zero, and had only video'd maybe one or two events. Here after only a month, I'm moving and shaking and my confidence about myself and what I do is soaring.

CALIFORNIA DOESN'T SUCK!

Still don't have any friends save the one I live with, but that'll come around some day I expect when I can actually feel comfortable spending more than a few minutes in close contact with others without the fear of spreading the MRSA or scaring folks that I'll spread it.

Nonetheless, thank you California and Californians for perhaps saving my life, and my livelihood.

3. California IS the promised land

Our trees grow fruit, there's never a bad weather day, all the women are beautiful, all the men are charming and handsome. Our exits finally have numbers, and our BBQ is better than anything in Texas or North Carolina.

Our beer is better, grass is almost legal, and we put out almost as many rock stars as the UK.

59. There are a few places in my town that are unsafe (after the sun goes down)

so if we need to go to them, day time.

And given that a couple got robbed in La Jolla the other day at gunpoint...

It is partly luck,

84. Oh, so not fair....

I don't know anyone here yet (my friend is quite a bit older and very conservative including regarding mmj so no hope there), aren't a resident so I can't be legal, and don't have enough cash left anyway, but I'm mj-less as of a week ago. I've already lost 10 pounds in one week, today the most I could eat was three bites, ( I only weighed about 110 to start with at 5'5"), hardly can sleep more than 4 hours since Saturday, and it'll just be a matter of weeks before my cluster headaches return. Not at all interested in the blow, but watching them toking is real tough right now. I'm one of the somewhat rare, truely medical users of mj, in that I never get "stoned". An 1/8th last me two weeks or more where most I know use it up in an eve or over a weekend. My 6-12 puffs through out the day, they've been a godsend for my ailments and also act to reduce my ADHD tendencies.

Oh, too difficult to watch.

IT will be interesting to see how the democrat party members in good standing freak out when the tax measures do not pass.

I've been pretty savvy in my life but not getting out of kalifornia as I was considering in 2006/07 has to be the biggest mistake in my life. Now, I'm pretty ****ed and I only expect the ****edness to get worse. Stick a fork in us this state will have to completely crumble before it can make a comeback.

My BIL's based in the LA area, and my sister and their three daughters are there with him.  She said that because of his job, it's going to be a busy two years or so--then they might be able to come East.

Is MRSA transmissible in the community?
MRSA and Staph bacteria can be transmitted in most any setting where people are either infected or carrying the bacteria.

Is MRSA transmittable through the air?
Yes. MRSA and Staph can pass through the air on dust and other particulates. You can catch MRSA by being close to infected people.

How is MRSA spreadable?
MRSA and Staph can easily enter your body through the lungs, nose, mouth, open cuts on your skin, wounds and surgical sites. The bacteria are easily spreadable on your hands, in some body fluids, on clothing and laundry, on household surfaces and other objects and from direct contact with an infected person. MRSA and Staph can also be transmitted to humans from pets (pets pick up MRSA bacteria from humans).

The importance of consistent hand washing and good hygiene cannot be overstated as well as proper hygiene with cuts, scrapes and wounds.

No wonder no one wants her in their yard- or house.

Wait until the cost of living and taxes hit home.  Every new place looks pretty cool for a couple of months.

I missed that part.  So this whole adventure is to sponge off of others?

Why,.....why does that not surprise me?

(D)Ullard is in for a rude awakening.

Living in a backyard in Los Angeles sounds like a good way to get shot.

I don't think this DUmmie has ever paid a dime in taxes in her life.

Was told to pack it up and move on, or would call police.

You know, Whatever line of work this DUmmie is in, I wish her the best of luck.

I just decided today that I'm going into business for myself.  I wasn't this nervous when I got married.

Karlofonia BBQ better than Texas? I will put any of that pig slop you call BBQ up against Kreutz's, Black's, or The Salt Lick any day....and twice on Sundays.

Your vapid "California girls" have NOTHING on smart, beautiful Texas women. (Janine Turner and Angie Harmon are the first two that pop into my mind).

Shiner and Shiner Bock are award winners at the Great American Beer festival year in, and year out.

And we don't have big earthquakes, an overabundance of fog, or Hollyweird.

As for rock stars, if it wasn't for our rock LEGENDS like Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison (and later Janis Joplin), your stars wouldn't be what they are.

And I will give credit where credit is due....Florida has some damn fine citrus.

When we lived in CA there was only one BBQ place around where we lived. It was ok (we only ate there once so obviously it wasn't too impressive) but no one does BBQ like Texas.

Spent three months in that state back in late '83.
Longest damn 89 days of my life.  :-)

Ahem.  You forgot Saint Arnolds, Real Ale, Rahr, and Peticolas.  They all won at the GABF this year.     :-)  Well, Saint Arnold didn't, but they have won many times before...
I like my grapefruits from the valley, peaches from Parker County, and my tomatoes from Jacksonville, TYVM.
