600 years of "Troubles" put behind them to protest Ireland's first abortion clinic:

BELFAST, Northern Ireland — The first abortion clinic on the island of Ireland opened Thursday in downtown Belfast, unleashing angry protests on the street and uniting Catholic and Protestant politicians in calls to investigate the new facility.

The clinic, run by the British family planning charity Marie Stopes, will be permitted to provide abortions only in exceptional circumstances to women less than nine weeks pregnant.

But the opening caught Northern Ireland's socially conservative politicians off guard, and they vowed to launch an investigation into how the clinic operates. About 400 protesters who lined the sidewalk outside the facility all day said they were certain that public pressure would force authorities to shut it.

I thought abortions were illegal in Ireland? I believe it is.

Edit: They are unless it is performed to save the life of the mother.

So how can an abortion clinic open in the country?

They are members of the EU. The Union will eventually take away their sovereignty and force legalization. Force of this nature is why the EU was created, to control above and beyond the wishes of the people.

So basically the EU is one big socialistic liberal group. Nice.

The ghosts of Pearse, McDermott, McBride, Parnell, and those old republicans must be shaking their heads.

I expect they use the same bullshit method that has been done in the US...a tame house shrink who briefly talks to the woman desiring an abortion, writes up a boilerplate standard determination that she would be thrown into a suicidal depression if forced to carry the child to term, and therefore her life is in danger, and so the abortion is allowed.

O.k.. I didn't notice the Northern Part. That explains a lot.

That sounds like something they would try.
