Vegetarian Paranoia Rant:

Does anyone else feel kinda weird about the fake meats? I've been a vegetarian for over 30 years and I never liked the fake chicken or fake beef. I'd rather have a tofu burger or black bean burger.

The other stuff kinda makes me feel like I could be eating soylent green.

Anyone else feel like that?

1. Oh thank you so much I was just thinking about this...

I am a new vegetarian. I just had a vegetarian burger, not the black bean kind and it really felt like eating real meat. Kind of makes me a bit paranoid. I am ok with that though, I don't think it's wrong. But, that feeling. I thought I might be the only one. It's kind of like those diet drinks, some are so close I get paranoid about real sugar being in them, that's when I get a fountain diet soda. Any way I like the fake stuff, I think it will keep me from falling off the wagon.

2. I'm not vegetarian but I don't understand why someone would stop eating meat then feel a need to eat something that is fake meat. It would be like someone who stopped eating vegetables and then had to have fake vegetables made out of meat. ??

3. Most vegetarians do it for either health or animal rights reasons not because we don't like the taste of meat.

5. I was raised eating meat at least 5 times a week and...

I eat "fake" meat like Morningstar Farms Grillers and breakfast sausage links because having been raised eating meat practically every day, it's simply familiar. Fake meat doesn't harm the environment like raising cattle for the real thing does. Also, there's no yucky blood, gristle or bones to deal with. There's no requirement that vegetarians HAVE to eat fake meat. If someone wants to eat it fine; if you don't, that's fine too. Whatever.

P.S.; Fake meat isn't just for vegetarians. It's for anyone who wants to cut down on meat consumption for whatever reason.

8. once in a while, for variety's sake

Just like a regular meat eater would have a vegetarian meal now and then.

Most of us like the taste, just not the health/environment/animal suffering effects of eating meat. So we have a v****e hot dog or burger or something.

And you never have to wonder what part of the animal it got made out of!

4. Nonthing wrong with it. But I don't even like real meat, much less fake.

6. The main problem with fake meats is the sodium content.

Read the label.

10. It's not the meat that's the issue (for me)...

It's where the meat comes from. No creature should be made to suffer for my enjoyment. I like some meat analogs. They taste good, they have a nice texture. They work out well in pot pies. I like my BLT, knowing that no animal was harmed for me to have it.

Poor, misguided DUmmy thinks that animals are not killed in the process of growing his food. :rotf:
We have put a few deer in the freezer thanks to a local organic farmer letting us use his nuisance tags.

What a bunch of hand wringing silliness. I bet if the world went upside down everyone of those in that thread would have their heads on a freshly killed deer. Uncooked no less. Or die from dehydration as they shed their tears of woe that an animal has to suffer(in their minds that means die and be served for dinner)  so people can eat.

Now that's funny right there. I can see one of them curling up into a fetal position reading this. Hi5!

Is that why "most vegetarians" do it?  What health reason would make you completely eliminate meat?

Damned stupid DUmmies can't seem to understand all land isn't tillable, and livestock of some sort is necessary to control the vegetation.

Otherwise, you have wildfires (a la Kalifornia) killing LOTS of wildlife, and damaging property.

Not to mention the fact they are actively advocating for the EXTINCTION of domesticated livestock with their loonytoon ideas.  What farmer is going to keep and feed an animal he can't make a profit from?

Damned F'N STOOPID DUmmies!  Here's an idea. Eat the steak, eat the pork chops, eat the hot dog, eat all the meat you want, we'll just "make" more.

And SHUT THE F**K UP!

Intelligence.

It has to be.  I have yet to meet a "smart" vegetarian.

Uh huh.

They do have some sort of superiority complex.

Saw this one thing at a store it was tofu that was altered to taste like beef to taste like chicken to taste like ham or something. Like seriously... just eat ham.

Do you know how they slaughter pigs? They use an electrified spear and stab the pigs in the back of the neck at this one place in Tampa. I wonder how many you have to slaughter before you can retire.

I have two uncles who are vegetarian. One only eats fish and sometimes kosher chicken. The other... I weep for him. He doesn't eat meat at all. I don't know why. They're both not primitives either one is just strictly kosher and the other is... odd.

I gave up eating meat once. It was the worst 4 hours of my life.

Now I can understand why some of the members of the Democrat Party who post at DemocratUnderground.com are so bitchy.

Uhh aren't tofu anything and black bean burger's fake meat?

I think they are distinguishing between texturized vegetable protein (TVP) and tofu or black bean options.  TVP really does have a meaty type of texture, it can do pretty well as a ground beef stand in.

I am an absolutely shameless carnivore. It isn't even 11 AM yet and this thread has me thinking of a badass thick cut T-Bone steak cooked medium rare, with a baked potato buried in sour cream, asparagus, and washed down with my current bottled obsession- Angry Orchard Crisp Apple hard cider.

Do they honestly think nothing lives in a soybean field? How many mice, rabbits, snakes, birds and insects get caught in the machinery during harvest? I guess large mammals are only ones worthy of your super superior moral righteousness.  ::)

I consider a meal a waste unless an animals died to make that meal. That's why I can enjoy a bacon cheese burger, two animals does and a third enslaved (to make the cheese).

My sister and brother in law, became vegetarians for health reasons. They never insisted on forcing anything on anyone else. They warned in advance of family gatherings that they needed to coordinate restaurants ahead of time. If we ended up at a steak house, they wished us well and had a private meal by themselves.
---never a problem. They went out of their way to accommodate our diversity, and that encouraged us to respect them in turn.

Being considerate of others is why we here at CC are better people than liberals.
