Title: Flamin' Hot Cheetos Banned From Schools

Flamin' Hot Cheetos are a wildly popular snack that literally leaves its indulgers red-handed.

And now several schools in California, New Mexico and Illinois have banned the high-fat, high-salt and possibly addictive treat.

Some schools in Pasadena, Calif. have even said that if a parent packs the snack in their child's lunch, the spicy Cheetos will still be confiscated, KTLA reports.

The main reason cited by these schools for the ban is a lack of nutritional value. One snack-size bag contains 26 grams of fat and a quarter of the amount of sodium recommended for an entire day.

And new research suggests that "hyperpalatable foods"--salty, fatty or sweet foods--can trigger brain responses similar to those created seen in individuals addicted to drugs or alcohol, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Flamin' Hot Stupidity, more like.

These are the same clowns who banned "sugary" sodas from schools, never thinking that the juices they're pushing actually have MORE sugar per ounce than a soda.  Go figure.

Oh, and also the same people who foist "nutritious" food on kids only to see them almost universally reject it.  Yeah, that'll work.

Who are they going to pay to inspect each student's lunch brought from home?

This is so stupid.

Quote
House Republicans say new U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines aimed at forcing students to eat fruits and vegetables are a failure because students across the country are simply tossing the healthy fare into the trash.

"[T]here remains great concern with the amount of food waste generated at school cafeterias, much of it brought on by requiring students to take fruits and vegetables rather than simply offer them," Reps. John Kline (R-Minn.), Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) and Phil Roe (R-Tenn.) told USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack in a letter sent Thursday.

"This is a waste of federal, state and local funds and is contrary to the law's goal of feeding as many low-income and hungry children as possible," they said. "Once again, we are aware USDA has attempted to address this situation by allowing greater choice in reimbursable meals, but students should not have to take additional food if they have no intention of eating it."

I was thinking that this was going to be like they were banning them because the kids were using them as a currency and had a mini black market in the school. That's how I remembered Hot Cheetos in school you wanted something you had to bring those things in and you got it. Nope, instead its because they're unhealthy.

Parents need to start storming the school board meetings.

Tell the idiots in charge to either shape up or ship out.

Imo, eating healthy is common sense. However, it is not the government's job to make sure we are. I think, that kids are eating high sugary foods, which gives them excess energy, and the teachers cant handle it. Snooping thru children's lunchboxes are an invasion of privacy. Maybe the recesses should be longer.  The problem seems to be in the higher grades. middle school and highschool where physical except for phys ed is not encouraged unless you do sports, and those kids are already healthy...

My issue is, alot of parents spend money, time and energy to put these lunches together. They put in lunches, what they know what the child will eat. To confiscate this lunch and to give them an alternative "healthy" lunch( in which some items they might be allergic too!!) and then the child throws it away and that is more wasted money!!

In my early school years, my mum knew I liked bologna, cheese and lettuce sandwiches. She cut up an apple and divided it between my sister and me, a hershey miniature, small bag of fritos, and a we bought chocolate milk at the school... no big deal
Some of you may not think it's healthy and some of you will say it's ok, but dammnit it is my lunch!!!
