They caved - it became to be more about the scarf than the coffee:
CANTON, Massachusetts: The Dunkin' Donuts chain has pulled an online advertisement featuring celebrity chef Rachael Ray after critics argued that that a scarf she wore in the ad offers symbolic support for terrorism.
Dunkin' Donuts said Wednesday it pulled the ad over the weekend because of what it calls a "misperception" about the scarf that detracted from its original intent to promote its iced coffee.
Critics, including conservative commentator Michelle Malkin, complained that the scarf appeared to be traditional garb worn by Arab men. The ad's critics say such scarves have come to symbolize Muslim extremism and terrorism.
Canton, Massacusetts-based Dunkin' Donuts says the black-and-white scarf that Ray wore had a paisley design, and was selected by a stylist for the advertising shoot. The chain says no symbolism was intended.

This "controversy" is the silliest bit of nothing to come along in a while.
Anyone who knows anything about staging advertisement photos can see the scarf is there to frame the product. Nothing is left to chance. Every nuance of the photo is staged for maximum effect. Ray's dress is the perfect background color to show off the latte. The color of the sky, the blossoms, the shadows....it is all a design. The last damn thing the stylist and photo shoot coordinator had on their minds at the time was Arabs.

I admit the first time I saw the commercial I said "HOLY CRAP! Why would she wear that!?!?!" I saw too many idiots on zombietime wearing it looking the exact same.
-
The ad should be pulled...not because it resembles arab gear (as say, a suicide belt would)...but that scarf is just too damn hideous.

It looks like it fell apart in the washer.

Personally, I think she should be wearing something more like this..... :shucks:

Did you hear her (or her publicists probably) excuse afterwards? The scarf is actually paisley. Yeah, right! That's not paisley.
Of course, the liberals lapped that false excuse up are are attacking Michelle Malkin with it. This one is highly amusing:

Commenters are agreeing with me that the scarf isn't paisley.

Is it my imagination or has Rachael Ray put on more than a few pounds in the last year or so?

According to her talk show promos and recently taped "30 Minute Meals" she has lost weight.

She needed to. Around the first of the year she was noticeably chunkier. My wife commented that you could see something was bothering her and she was forcing the perkiness.

Rachel is trying to become a billionaire overnight, it seems. She has so many balls in the air there is no way she can cope with it all. I can imagine under the circumstances her marriage is suffering. Plus she just turned forty. Maybe she misses the simplier life.
-
She annoys the hell out of me....I don't care for her or her recipes.
One day I tried her version of linguine with clam sauce and I followed her recipe to a T. It was so oily....it was unedible. She needs to take lessons from Giada or Mario...Her faux italian food is nasty.

I agree with that. Looks like a lawnmower ran over it.

Supposedly, tablecloth scarves are in this season... ::)

Maybe we need a poll--who's the most annoying in a television commercial:
--Rachel Ray
--The "Sham-wow" guy
--That annoying bitch from the Progressive.com commercials
--What's his ass selling Orange Glow

Ugh.. 'Flo' -- she needs a beating, and then a makeover. I think Schade can take her.

Rachel is fond of 30 minute meals - not 30 second dudes.

Perhaps - but it's going to take me only 20 seconds to get her where she wants to be. :-)

What about those gay ass Sonic commercials with those two doods waxing poetic over their frosty desserts. Or the dweeby guy with his wife. Typical liberal bullshizz; they make the guys look like ineffectual emasculated castratti while the woman is made to look like the genius. In fact, isn't that how most sitcoms are these days?

It cause a bit of pain here, because the building in the background is the Oregon State Capitol. She had the commercial filmed in front of a stock picture of a citiscape, and the folks had no idea what it was.
Sort of takes Oregon officialdom down three or four pegs.

Rachael Ray's controversial... scarf?
We never thought scarves could be "controversial," but then again, we've never had our neckwear critiqued by millions of people. Rachael Ray wore a fringed scarf for a recent Dunkin Donuts ad, and a blogger pointed out that scarf was similar to "the type typically worn by Muslim extremists." Others voiced their opinions and pretty soon, Dunkin Donuts pulled the ad. The New York Times recaps this textbook example of the Web's massive influence.
