So I was thinking...well, I wasn't, but someone was kind of, sort of, in a round about, really messed up way...what would the perfect gift be for that wonderful lefty nutjob in your life be? I think kpete has found it:

Elmish said the business model they had created meant that rebates for using "green" materials would entirely cancel out production costs and this could allow for bicycles to be given away for free in poor countries.
..............................
"Because you get a lot of government grants, it brings down the production costs to zero, so the bicycles can be given away for free. We are copying a business model from the high-tech world where software is distributed free because it includes embedded advertising," Elmish explained.
"It could be sold for around $20, because (retailers) have to make a profit ... and we think they should not cost any more than that. We will make our money from advertising," he added.
Elmish said initial production was set to begin in Israel in months on three bicycle models and a wheelchair and they will be available to purchase within a year.
"In six months we will have completed planning the first production lines for an urban bike which will be assisted by an electric motor, a youth bike which will be a 2/3 size model for children in Africa, a balance bike for youngsters learning to ride, and a wheelchair that a non-profit organization wants to build with our technology for Africa," he said.

Real great; relying on Govt for a shitty bike that can be destroyed by water, fire or a big wind. Great investment... :whatever: 'Tis the liberal way, I suppose. It's not nice to make wheelchairs either. I equate that to being a practical joke, and when it comes to those, I'm like the old man. I hate them.
By the way, Kpete, how DARE you think something from Israel is a good idea! Palestine are the victims, here! You traitor!

Typical "Greenie" idea. Disposable bicycles. What will they think of next? Won't be long and we'll be flyin' cardboard rockets to Mars!

I believe the idea is to coat the cardboard with a very toxic sealent. This prevents moisture from getting into the product.
Unfortunately the sealent is so toxic that I have no idea how the production workers could be protected. As far as disposal of unwanted bikes, how to do this, cannot put in land fill, cannot dump in the ocean or even burn the suckers.
Cardboard is an an amazing product, as long as it is kept dry the triple strength boards makes wonderfull insulation, the holes between layers allow air flow, but once wet it can produce mold that is a killer if inhaled.
These bikes would work great in a very dry country, little to no humidity, say Death Valley.
Innovation is great, perhaps this may turn out well if a sealent can be found that is non toxic.

Levin just had an excellent idea! All these liberal ideas need to be tested on liberals to see how they work. Wonder if they'd still be tryin' to push them on us if they had to pay for them first.
Sounds fair to me!
Wouldn't it be great to see them payin' $2 a gallon more for gas and heating fuel to test how it affects the economy?
How 'bout the cost of food, city services, the salary they want to pay our fighting men/women or the annihilation of thousands of their jobs? How 'bout we put a ban on patuli oil like we do cigarettes?
I could go on and on. These people never think they have to pay the price. It's about time we showed them there are consequences to their tyranny.

Over at the thread, the moonbats are enthusiastic, K&Ring all over themselves. However, Nadin is skeptical. :panic: What are we to make of that?

Yes, the government pays for it with someone else's money. Somehow, that makes it "free". :whatever:
How do you sell advertising on a bicycle?
-
I'm not sure the 'Israeli scientist' understands that while almost all roads in Israel are paved, the opposite is true of his target 'Market' countries, and that both the pneumatic tire and the flexible spokes working together are the suspension system of a bicycle that enables it survive being ridden on shitty roads.

I luv DUmmies on bicycles! They make great targets for my SUV!

Yeah, but the cardboard ones probably won't have that satisfying crunch you'd get out of a metal framed bicycle. :-)

Now that's funny! ^5!!!

But they won't cause as much damage to the undercarriage of your car, and it makes it easier to hear the DUmmies cries and screams.

I miss bobolink. Her put downs of any attempt to help the poor that didn't include a mansion, live in servants, catered dinners, etc. were freaking hilarious. She and the Buick musta made that last lonely road trip down life's lane.

I dunno, Allo, she just quit coming to the DUmp one day. Maybe she's found a new place to vent her spleen, maybe she's deceased. At least she didn't do the tacky "Goodbye cruel DU" speech most seem obligated to indulge in. OTOH her every post was a "you're a mean, cruel place DU" screed. :p

Bobo is likely in prison or dead.
Panther puss probably did something that revoked her release from the looney bin, so she locked up too.
-
I think the mere fact this will be made in Israel means the arab world will never be helped by something as simple as this. I'm surprised that DU supports it, seeing it will enrich another Israeli corporation.
Likely DU was blinded by the word "FREE."

Wouldn't doubt either explanation. It ain't like they were socially attractive.

'Tis true . . . but the cardboard ones don't dent the hood/fenders, or mar the paint job. O-)

Its only a matter of time now for a DUmmy thread brought over by Frank...
Cardboard Bike maintenance.

Dry climate equals sand, hills, rocks and mountains. I could be wrong, but I do live in the Mojave desert.

But to be fair, the cardboard bikes won't scratch up your paint job, and the lack of protection means that much more pain will be inflicted upon the DUmmies.

Off topic a little, but until some time in the mid-1950s, there were very few, if any, laws prohibiting littering.
I still remember as a child hearing adults express outrage that you could be fined for tossing an empty can or candy wrapper out of your car window.
At the first McDonald's restaurant I ever visited, probably around 1960, there was no place to sit down, so people got their food and then ate in their cars. Every minute one of the kids working would shout "one left", meaning a car had left the parking lot. That was a signal for someone to dash from behind the counter out to the parking lot to pick up the empty bags and wrappers that were always tossed out of the departing car. At that time there was still no real anti-littering attitude. It's hard to imagine today, but that's the way it was.

I still recall when some fast food places had people bring your food to the car on a tray and would the tray and garbage when you were ready to leave.

A & W, Dog 'n Suds.
Those were regional though, so I doubt non-Nebraskans ever heard of them.

We had A&W in our local mall up north. Dog N Suds drive ins are gone but the stores carry their soda last I heard. In fact, yesterday my brother(brat) posted a Facebook pic of him drinking one of their root beers (something I haven't had for 12 years.)

They weren't that regional. There is still a Dog~n~Suds near here and a couple of A&Ws. I don't think they have the car hops anymore, though.

We have A&Ws around. Pooch 'n Bubbles, not so much.
Sonic still has car hops and trays. There's nothing like a car smelling of cooking grease! (And upholstery sticky from a spilled chocolate shake.)

Back in the day it was a way for mom and dad to take their rugrats out for a meal without annoying other customers. It also allowed mom and dad to cuff the kids for getting too unruly. (I speak from experience)

Yes, I am aware. I was just a tot once myself. We'd go to DQ or Sylvia's for a quick bite out.
I had a tot of my own before it all went away.

We have A&W in red state hell. They have the best root beer, but no carhops.
The only place I know with carhops is Sonic (most on roller skates), but they don't have the car trays around here anymore.

Yeh, Sonic brings your food to you. I have always wondered why they don't have a garbage can at the menu area because that would at least encourage the lazy people to throw their garbage away instead of on the road like they do.

Your Sonic doesn't have the "Please Push Button For Trash Pick-Up" sign?
