A strange conversation the other other day (Overhead and later got my two cents in)
These two women were talking of the selfish feminists. You see, the horror, when, not if, when, we have a draft, WOMEN, poor dears, will be brought into the armed forces and forced to serve. Think of the CHILDREN... women are baby factories and what if they become pregnant during their service, THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
One of the two is Israeli, where women do serve, and have to volunteer for combat duty. So that was kind of a fly in the ointment for her argument.
So I asked the older woman, in her late forties I would guess, what other jobs should the poor dears be protected from?
This woman had that quizzical look.
Well firefighting is dangerous, police work, you can get into hand to hand easily, and the poor dear might get shot (Female cop happened to be at the same place and was fighting not to snicker too hard.)
She had that look of horror.
I pressed, what about construction... it is not like this is an accident free profession. What about welding? Did I mention plumbing, electrician?
She met my gaze and she actually said, "The only job women should get, and only because SOME might have to do so, is secretarial."
So I asked her, we should also get rid of all kinds that give equality to women like the ability to sign contracts, and the ability to own property? She actually nodded, which is damn scary.
Then she said, "well you do not understand, obviously, the risks that these jobs put women AND BABY at."
I said, "go ahed and call me selfish... mind you I was very much single at the time. But I have done firefighting and I have done EMS, yup, I was a medic... and where I did it, I even had to avoid some high speed lead. Given I am married to a retired Navy Chief my view is simple, if women quality for the infantry, sure, after all not all men do." I added, "and if we have a draft, I want women to register. Of course in your short sighted view of the world you probably do not realize that women, so far, do not have to register for the selective service, like all 18 year old males do. I want that changed, and I want all 18 y\o females in the registry as well."
I found out she is the wife of a local businessman, who is also serving in a slew of boards (for that I commend him) and she has not worked a day in her life. No, I could not find party affiliation, these are non partisan, but I suspect it.
The cop, as I left, gave me a thumbs up. She was grinning.

Good grief! I tell what NadaBrain, ask how many men, if in a foxhole and relyin' on who else was in the foxhole, who they would want watchin' their back, their buds, or their girl friends.
While I am absolutely sure "Toots" would die for me, I doubt seriously it would be that way in combat. As a matter of fact, I'd tell her to keep her head down! The kids can do without me, but without their mother, gimme a break!

We don't know, you silly twit. We were not there for this imaginary conversation, but you did not type that you mentioned it, so no one knows.

What pray tell is women quality for the Infantry ?
Is that the same as PT quality for women, standards lowered in the name of equality after all women are built different.

There are these people in every large city with a homeless population. It has been suggested they are talking to each other in the next or far away city, heheheheheheheheheheh!
Poor Nads, she sounds like she met up with woman like my 90 year old mother that was aghast to find out life was so different from the 20's and 30's.
She is now use to female Doctors and Lawyers, plumbers and woman that go to war, some what. Her generation felt that the only jobs for a woman to work was teaching, nursing or like herself go into Government office work.
Strange generation, one that brought us Amelia Aerheart and female rocket scientists and researchers. The military Nurses that were captured in WW2 and those being the wife of an important man or a Hollywood star.
So unless Nads was in a nursing home and over hears this conversation, between very old woman, then I too have to call B.S. on this, but one never knows, there are still people out there that think that way.

She got a thumbs up, a grin, and a stifled snicker, which is pretty good for a beginning bouncy spinner.
Conversions and applause can't be far behind.
I'm a little surprised she didn't include her unpaid online "journalism" among the deadly occupations she's survived.

The idea that Israeli girls were drafted into direct combat roles in Israel's wars is a bit of a myth. While it's certainly true that in dealing with terrorists, any REMF can be on the firing line in an instant, but the same thing is true of anyone in their civil population, in uniform or not, and of course the War for Independence was a whole different kettle of fish but then that was before the IDF was established in its modern form anyway. Although the law changed back around 2000 to allow 'Full military equality for any job for which qualified,' in the major wars Israel fought women served in what we would call combat service support (Medical, clerical, maintenance, etc.) and some combat support (Mainly commo in their case) jobs, not infantry squads or tank crews. There are infantry units now that integrate male and female soldiers, but the whole idea has really never been put into the crucible and tested in the fire in any major way yet.

Well, it wouldn't be a slow news day if Vlada Mitty got off her ass and headed down to Ensenada to find some crunchy news.
I have no idea what's down in Ensenada--from the brochures kindly sent me by their tourism bureau, it appears to be Disneyland South--but I'm sure some enterprising intrepid cub reporter could find some story down there, about something.
A reporter after all doesn't sit around waiting for a story to come to him; a reporter goes out and gets a story.

Hey gnads and other liberals...why do you protect the inner city mother from the follies or her bad choives yet look down on this woman seeking to protect women as well in a different context? I somewhat agree with gnads with the point she is making however liberals never seem to carry this to their natural ends which is to also require women take responsibility and risk with other things like both control and the families by create on coordination with the fathers who helped them make the children. I never get how they say a woman is capable of combat yet she can't get her act together enough to pay for her own bc or provide for her own children in the event she's alone.
