Oh my.
I haven't had supper yet--or dinner or breakfast for that matter today--and before I headed to town, I thought I would check to see what the cooking and baking primitives are allegedly dining upon.

What's for Dinner ~ Friday Oct 12th
There's the usual long string of blah-blah-blahs about how the cooking and baking primitives are having pate de viane vite fait, foie de veau en casserole, poitrines de poulet a la creme, petoncles cuits au four, aubergine a la sauce tomate, jambon et lentilles en cassetole, riz et fruits de mer, &c., &c., &c.
Actually, in real life, the primitives are dining upon leftovers from the refrigerator.

13. omelets with monterey jack and salsa verde
and for those who can take the carbs, some hash browns.
I love an omelet for dinner. Mmmm.
Rainy weekend; I'm set with some new foodie things to read. Picked up another old south cookbook at the thrift shop as well as some older Martha Stewart Living magazines.
Oh, I meant to mention in C&B something about old foodie magazines. At the library's weekly sale I picked up about ten issues of the old Chocolatier magazine. I should have bought all they had, but I thought I would pick up the rest the following week. NOPE!! They were gone the following week, dammit. Anyway, because that magazine was only published for two years, it apparently has become a collectors' item. I checked it out on eBay and saw that some of the issues are selling for twenty or thirty bucks each!
So if you are going to dump old specialized cooking magazines, you might want to check values first.

Cooking magazines are like colds. They get passed around and they're a pain in the ass to get rid of. I've had the same shelf full of Cooking issues for the last four years and never used them.

I've got a few I rely on occasionally. Specially the fast stuff. Some pretty good recipes if ya don't have a lot of time, or yer cookin' for a crowd.

I end up re-using recipes I learned when I had to cook for a living. My favorite is tres leches (chocolate cake) and paella (fancy Spanish name for rice with meat and seafood).

Damn. My recipies are the same that my GGG Grandmother used.
I don't try any new food. I don't put sauces on beef, I only fry chicken and I don't put sugar in cornbread.

In 24 yrs of marriage I very seldom saw my wife refer to a cooking magazine/cookbook for instructions. The few times she did it was usually one of my moms or sisters recipes and she wanted to do it justice.

Yeah, "Toots" never uses recipes. They're handed down. Me, I have to get ideas. It's amazing what people come up with, but some of 'em are pretty damn good!

The Internet is my cookbook. Except for my apple pie & cheesecake. I make a mean apple pie and killer cheesecake.

Do share! I'm looking for a good cheesecake recipe, my mom never wrote hers down so it's gone forever. I made Paula Deen's pumpkin cheesecake last year for Thanksgiving and it was delicious!

"Toots" brings me cooking magazines from all the thrift stores she visits, bless her heart. I try and tell her I have more than I can use in 2 lifetimes, but she tells me, "But they were only a quarter apiece!". I'm goin' to make her start usin' 'em for toilet paper!

:yum: Did someone say CHEESECAKE ???

Then they certainly better hope Romney/Ryan wins, else they will soon be dining upon leftovers from the dumpster.

Mrs. W560 has started finding recipes on that "Pinterest" site. Lots of good crock pot recipes, so I can cook some, too.

I admit to thumbing through magazines looking for recipes. I also have a huge box of recipes from my mom and dad as well as the Better Homes and Garden cookbook.
I don't do anything super complex, but I vary what I put on the table. I experiment once a week, sometimes it's a hit sometimes it's a miss.
