In southern California right now many people are striking for better wages that they 'know' they deserve. Here are a few of my thoughts.
I go to Wal-Mart often. I like the selection but I HATE the service offered by the employees. For the most part they hire young people, disabled people and old people. You would expect some decent customer service at times given they do hire quite a few old people. They have manners right? They have work ethic right? HA!
I once went to get a new router when I lived in a small town in Rhode Island. There wasn't another option without driving 20+ minutes. I went to the electronics section and pulled out every router they had and set them on top of a big screen TV box so I could compare each one. I grouped them by what I figured was the best to worst by the specs on the boxes and got rid of the bottom few. I then started doing on-line searches for reviews on each one I still had there. In all, I spent over 45 minutes doing everything. As it was about 8-9 pm it was slow and there were three older employees sitting at the electronics counter within full view of me. They never once stopped talking and came to see if I needed help. I went to complain to a manager and the manager said it was my fault for never asking them for help. Seriously? Since when do I HAVE to ask for help when I am obviously going through so much trouble to find the best product?
Another instance, they didn't have an item that was on sale and the manager told me oh well, get something else. The corporate office sends out their advertisements and they don't always have the items on stock because they don't order things individually. They also refused to honor the sale price on another item. Funny thing, I realized a few weeks later their own board in the customer service center says they will offer a rain check for ANY SALE ITEM not currently in stock. Why was I not offered this? Again, inept employees.
I can not count how many times I have been at Wal-Mart and had an employee cut me off. I am there to shop and give them money, yet I have to STOP and wait for them because they're in a hurry to.... go pick their nose? Who knows what they're in a race to go do but you can guarantee it isn't work. I should not have to slow down as an employee walks in front of me either, you walk BEHIND a customer if you are about to cross paths. It is business ethics 101 for customer service and you would THINK common sense. It is the LITTLE THINGS that make a difference and those little things show you care about customers.
One night about 11 pm I went to Wal-Mart and went to check out. There was a line, I am NOT joking, over 15 people long because only one checkout stand was open. I politely went over to the assistant manager who was joking around with four other associates and asked if they didn't mind opening another checkout stand. She laughed at me and said they don't have the people on shift to do that. I said I understand you guys don't plan for this but you are sitting here bs'ing with four associates and can't spare one person to help people out? She said I need to go somewhere else if I don't like the service being offered, they do not open anymore stands after a certain time no matter how many people are in line. So I politely turned around and went and put all my groceries behind some women clothes and left them there. Dumb woman wants to treat me like crap AND be in a leadership position I will act like a dummy and make sure the cold stuff I was going to buy now goes bad. I wrote a complaint to Wal-Mart and NEVER heard a thing and the woman was still working there when I left the area and moved back to California.
One of my BIGGEST pet peeves are people who park at stores in the red zone because they'll only be there for a couple minutes. I don't care if you're a Medal of Honor recipient this is a HAZARD to people as they're leaving because you block the view. I have seen kids run out of a store before and one time even watched a kid get hit because he ran right out into the road with no view being blocked by a vehicle so I know how hazardous this is. I often tell them that this is a hazard and if a kid gets hit because they allow this then they are liable legally because they know of an issue that is creating a hazardous situation and refuse to do anything about it.
I have a great work ethic and it shows in my service to others. I have had some amazing leaders in the military take me under their wings and show me things because they have seen the leadership potential in me. Leaders that have received praise from the media and even one of which is now a General, who as a Lt Col. helped me as a specialist. Once I was an NCO I always had the problem children to train. So I know a thing or two about leadership and work ethics.
Long story short, these examples are to show how inept their employees are at ALL levels. How can they demand a raise when they can't even do their job to even a satisfactory level? If they want better paying jobs go get a better education and go apply for better jobs. There is a reason most of them work there, they can't find anything better because they're felons, drop outs, drug users or stupid. Granted, some people are great employees who work at Wal-Mart and usually they're there for a minimal amount of time. In this economy there are MANY people looking for jobs, if they're not happy fire them and let those people have a job.

Dude, when did you get fired from Walmart?
I am not a Walmart fan as I think most of the stores are disgusting pits, so I prefer Target over Walmart any day of the week. That said, you don't live in a third world country with limited shopping options. You live in RI - a tiny blip of a state. Shop elsewhere and save yourself the stress this store appears to be giving you.
-
This is also not breaking news.
-
I prefer the sales people to not bother me, but to be around if I do need help. I don't like it when they constantly come up asking if I need help.
-
The biggest employer in the nation is fighting the most organized effort at unionizing in the United States it has ever seen and that is NOT major breaking news? Yet, Obama's racist speech from an unverified source, the NFL bounty scandal and other things are.
You're kidding me right?
It is bad enough I have someone asking me when I was fired from Wal-Mart and I have way too much intelligence to ever work there. The same guy thinks I still live in Rhode Island, when I clearly said I moved back to California. He thinks everything in RI is close and thinks I said I live in a third world country...EVERYTHING is centered around Providence, I lived 30-45 minutes away on the border of Connecticutt. That is NOT a very close drive to just do normal shopping.
I prefer Target too but I was not talking about Target. I merely said I go to Wal-Mart often. The issue at hand is Wal-Mart.
If this is the kind of intellect on this message board, dear God help me. Anyone with the slightest critical thinking level would see the impact this will have on the United States and the lift it will give Democrats and unions spending.
I hope you guys come to your senses and put this thread back where it belongs. After all, this is a million times more important then the frigging NFL. No wonder why Democrats keep getting whatever they want.
-
Um, first, you do realize there are members of this board who work at WalMart as well as former employees, yes? And while not everyone loves the place, you do have to admit it does fill a need in many communities.
Second, as someone originally from "out west", there are few if any areas in New England that are what I would consider "remote". Let me know when you have to drive two hours to a McDonalds, mkay?
Third, it's NOT breaking news. Unions (particularly the UFCW) have been going after WalMart for YEARS. But even the unions realize they're fighting an uphill battle at best, and the dues which come from folks making little more than minimum wage to start isn't going to help their bottom line much. They have much bigger fish to fry, so to speak--starting with just keeping the members they do have, which in a lot of cases is fairly unsuccesful.
Fourth, "come to your senses"? Drama queen much?
Finally, calling into question people's intellect when you come here with a quite obvious slant (cough, cough) and agenda ain't gonna score you more points. My suggestion? Calm down, sit down, and introduce yourself in a manner befitting an intelligent adult, not some Internet savvy (sort of) version of Honey Boo Boo Child.

You seem to be pretty high-maintenance. Most of us aren't.

As a Walmart assocoiate, I am sorry you have deserved this treatment. I have worked for Walmart for 9 years, and never have I seen a manager treat a customer this way. Associates. unfortunately, yes. Unfortunately, there are associates, whose mentality is, "hey , I only make $8.00 an hour, and that is what i am going work as...
Then there are those of us, who take our job seriously enough that even when we only make an amount, we work harder to strive for more.

In southern California right now many ridiculous idiotic people are striking for more money that they 'know' they deserve from their gracious and generous employer, Walmart Corp. Here are a few of my thoughts.
Why did these idiots apply for jobs at Walmart?
Why did these idiots show up for work after being hired when they knew damn good and well what their agreed wages would be?
Why is southern California full of idiots?
-
I shop at Walmart too but if I had as many problems as you I would just not go to them anymore.

I am sorry but we have some that work at Walmart and they are way smart. Possibly smarter than you. Please don't be such an ass.

Chrisbee, I don't like it when associates constantly ask if I need help. If they do, I don't sweat it. To me either way is no big deal. It is not the end of the universe and the big crunch more than likely will not happen. I prefer to figure it out myself and if I need help I will go find someone and ask. This is how I have always done it.

When did Wal Mart have sales? I thought they had everyday low prices.
The only issue I had with our Wal Mart was an issue my mother had and it was solved with an email to the corporate office.
It was fixed very fast.
I live in a rural area. Wal Mart is our only shopping center unless you want a 2 hour round trip (depending on traffic) in the car driving to Las Vegas & back. We have people that have to drive 90 minutes just to visit our Wal Mart...I live in the middle of the old west and places like Death Valley, CA don't have many options for shopping... :-)
But we do have Front Sight's Firearms Training Center and everyone knows how to shoot trolls.
-
The last time I walked into a Walmart, the greeter greeted me.
That was cool. I thanked him.
The last time I was in a Walmart and I saw they had no Fuji apples, I asked if they had any in the back. The answer was, "No, afraid not."
The last time I was in a Walmart and I wanted to buy ammo, but nobody was at the sporting goods counter, I went over to the Paint counter and asked that somebody be called to the sporting goods counter. A person was there in about 60 seconds.
The last time I was in a Walmart and I had less than 20 items in my cart, the checker over at the liquor station waved me over to check out with her.
Gee. I have no problem in a Walmart. None at all. :whistling:

I agree.
Very few people in those specialty departments can do much more then ring up your purchase. Once in a while you get lucky and find someone that can actually help you. This includes most stores.

Undies, seriously, look at the greater Los Angeles area and count the number of WalMarts. They're there, I grant you, but not nearly as many as one would expect given the population density of LA/Orange/Ventura/SB/Riverside Counties. Compare that to the ones just within a 25-mile radius of me in little 'ol Cow Hampshire/Maine.
And not everyone in SoCal is an idiot. Some of us were smart enough to leave, and the few non-idiots left are trying to figure a way out.
-
You seem to be pretty high-maintenance. Most of us aren't.
One of the best verbal backhands i have seen in a while. Well done, sir, well done.

I worked in corporate retail, it's a tough business. Walmart is able to offer low prices because it keeps it's overhead costs down. I wouldn't say their customer service is any worse than Target's. Guess it depends on the store and it's management.
-
As a Walmart assocoiate, I am sorry you have deserved this treatment. I have worked for Walmart for 9 years, and never have I seen a manager treat a customer this way. Associates. unfortunately, yes. Answer honestly. 1-10 where are your work ethics compared to your co-workers. 1 being you're scum compared to them and 10 being you're the best employee at the location you work at.
-
First- Yes, I am sure some people on here work for Wal-Mart. That was proven below. Thanks for being captain obvious. /
Second- If you've been to where I used to live you would know it is an area with zero shopping because it is a summer tourist destination. I guess you and you're awesome traveling skills all over NE didn't think of that. mkay? I know where I lived, I don't need you to tell me about it.
Third- Anytime something happens for the first time ever and involves the largest private employer in the United States, I believe that most classifies as breaking news. I am military so I would never diss a retired CSM but I think that this is a bigger news level then a death. With that being said, I didn't post it properly as it was more than 5 paragraphs and did not include the link to the article. That is my fault and I have apologized to a moderator for it. Outside of that, this meets the requirements for Breaking News. I think anyone can see I have only a few posts, hmm maybe I am new to this place. The fact that NOBODY wanted to explain why and are doing like you, exuding arrogance that is only having a different aroma.
Wal-Mart has 2.1 million employees worldwide. I can't find a number for only in the U.S. but let's be extremely conservative and say 1 million. Charge them $10 a month for their dues, another conservative estimate I've never heard of dues being that low, and that is $10 million a month, $120 million a year. Yup, you're right just chump change. As far as minimum wage, when was the last time you ever saw a union employee make minimum wage?
N-e-v-e-r!
Fourth- No drama queen here but I do see someone butting into something they are obviously way out of their league on so let's just make it easy for you. In the future you just ignore me and I won't have to make you look so foolish again. Capisce?
What is my quite obvious slant? Agenda? ..and get that cough looked at. Better yet, go watch your Honey Boo Boo show and just don't answer those questions because well... you think $120 million a year (conservatively) is, and I quote, "isn't going to help their [union] bottom line much."
Perhaps if people came at the "newbie" with a little more dignity then I would have responded in kind. Mirroring communication at it's finest. Don't like someone smarting off you to? Don't smart off to them first.

Wow. Nine posts into what will surely be a very short stay here on CC, and we've got this jokester wrapped up in Walmart. :whatever:
When it gets right down to it, **** Walmart, chrisbeenumbers.
I'd argue that the GOVERNMENT at federal, state, and local levels, is the largest employer of concern in the U.S. these days. We're talking 16.4 million people that the taxpayers are paying. We would do well to watch IT and the unions that have wormed their way into things as well.

Bring it on, bitch.

CRISBEE. don't pm me and call me names. As far as I feel NOW you are no longer welcome here. :bird:

Chrisbee, i meant to say, I am sorry you recieved the treatment you got. My advice to you, it is not a good idea, to rely on Walmart associates on technical information. There is a very small percentage, that would actually know what you wanted. They are there to sell you the items, if we have it, that's it!!!! Some of the guys could tell you more about the video games, upgrades, etc......comparisons and stuff, as in which one is better, that is their opinion.
If you have questions about modems, ask a tech savvy friend, or your local cable company. Alot of the people on here are quite techsavvy, Chris, Sparky or better yet go to the computer section of the forum and ask nicely and in an adult manner, and they might help you....

RIANG? North Kingston?
As I stated - RI is the size of a postage stamp. You could very easily drive and find ample shopping options elsewhere without blowing through a tank of gas.
Please already.

Wait...I am trying to give a damn... Nope, not happening. BITCH.
Funny, I was thinking the same thing about your whiny assed rant about Wally World.
Honestly, whiny ass, I could care less what your "feelings" about the content of this board might be. From your continued presence at a forum that obviously does not share in your particular pathos, it strikes me that you are one of the many emotional cripples that haunt the internet looking for validation for every issue they might have and finds it better to scream when no one gives a damn. Maybe instead of acting like a butt hurt toddler, you should seek professional psychiatric help.
Or suck start a Mossberg, whichever works best for you.
Either way, find the door and walk your childish ass through it.

You come into someone else's house, fling the china onto the floor, shit on the carpet, wipe your ass on the drapes, and demand everyone else respect you?
Really?!?
**** you, punkass. There's the "respect" you have earned, not what you think you deserve.
I am military
So are most of us here; retired and otherwise. Act like you were taught some self discipline and decorum, not like a hoodrat that joined for a paycheck.
I do see someone butting into something they are obviously way out of their league on
Boy, you're "way out of your league" on this board. Discretion is the better part of valor, and you are sadly lacking in both.

You got that right.
I get really put off by newbies who join up and immediately start topics without first knowing exactly what conservativecave is all about, and reading it to get a grip on the tenor and flow of it.
This guy sounds as if he just picked out this site at random without knowing anything about it, to rant. If that's his habit, probably the next board he joins will be one for users of sewing machines or the Farm Bureau or expectant mothers or emigres from Indonesia.
The best posters--and we've got some of the very best--are those who lurk for a while, learning what a site's all about and whether or not it's one that's appropriate, and then register and make comments.....and then finally at long last start a topic.
It's rude to just immediately jump in and start a topic.
<<a nice guy, one of the nicest guys one can ever hope to meet, but dislikes rude people.

Well, true, mamacags doesn't show up like she used to, even though she's badly missed.
But it's reasonable to assume real life is interfering; she's spending her time loving the husband, nurturing the children, being kind to strangers, dispensing alms, remembering God, rejoicing in humanity--you know, those things she does a lot.

Walmart, the only store that when I broke my leg had greeters running about to find me a electrocute cart and took time to teach me how to navigate it. Employees that followed me, great they could take down from the a shelf an item for me to inspect.
At one time in the Holiday season our walmart was open 24/7 I got off night shift at 3 Am and stopped for last minute gifts
As I got out of my car the screws on my glasses gave way, when I half blind went into the store and explained my problem one clerk took my list and went on the hunt for my items to include Hubby's jean size .
I have no problems with our Walmart , the bathrooms are clean, the isles are wide, and the food section has had a change in that the produce is fresh.
I do not like the Target in my town, isles are too small. and they have these security people following you about and are so obvious, when you run into the same person in 3-4 places in the store and they are not putting anything in a cart, or see in the check out line, darn who are they hiring for security ??????
K Mart is great for their spring gardening plants . Better then going to a private gardening center. The best tomatoes and peppers I have bought with the highest yield was from K Mart.

They have a cart for giving shock treatment to Vesta. She's over, I think.
I think so, the darn thing seemed to zap me everytime I drove past the expensive items, a bit of subliminal message to make me stop and wonder if I really needed that item and to keep moving.
I think my Hubby put them up to this, when we enter the store it is a battle between us, as fast as I fill up the cart of impulse items he is running about putting the items back on the shelf. Those darn shelves with the [as seen on TV] items, he tries everything he can do to keep me away from, he gets quite upset if I even look at an electric potato and vegetable peeler for only $29.95.
Sea, Hubby does all the food shopping in our home, as I am now a stay at home house keeper he decides what he wants me to cook. No problem as I am a bad cook he often will go for weeks living on sandwiches rather then a proper meal. You may have seen him 3-4 times a week looking at the deli goodies with lust in his eyes for good potato salad or slices of honey baked ham.

My wife bought one of those miracle bras off the "as seen on TV' aisle. She loves it. It ain't all bad.

Is your daughter practicing that stuff I sent? :-)
Yes. Thanks so much for your help too!!!!

I am here every single day. I just do a lot of my reading on my cell which is a total PITA to reply with.
Ditto. That's what happened to me too. Hate replying on the phone

You noticed that, she didn't talk about that nice, respectful associate in the deli!! :bawl:
Retail deli can be a tough job. They work very hard.
I know first hand. I was "third in charge" whatever that means after only nine months at a grocery store chain in Illinois while I was between car dealership jobs. I needed a steady pay check in the winter months to pay my rent. Some found it funny to see me working there, but they were working 60 hours a week for 100% commission and I knew they were not making any commission...keep laughing, lol
The store director tried to make the me the deli manager after six months, we had an increase in sales, CSI, etc...the UFCW blocked it. It would of been a set schedule, quicker health benefits, and about $8 more an hour, for doing the same work I was already doing...My deli manager could not make a simple sign without misspelling words like "New York"... I simply did not have enough seniority for my hard work to pay off. I hate unions. :-)
They had new contract language that was to make seniority a secondary requirment allowing "what was best for the store" to trump....the store director, his DM, just could not get it done...so I left and took a job running a resturant, in which I learned even more and made more money.
If you are non union now, unions are not usually a good thing to sign up for. Take my word for it. (for the lurking DUmmies)
I have held elected union offices with four different locals, two were out of Chicago and one shared an office with ACORN.

They tried to bring in a union to my work place and the company printed out what benefits we already got and the by state labor laws.
They printed all these out with the company benefits and state laws on one side of the paper and the union benefits, plus the cost to join and weekly deduction for dues on the other.
It was easy to see that the state and federal laws covered us at no cost and with no union the company benefits covered us with health insurance, a 401K plan and yearly bonuses.
Unions were usefull 100 years ago, but today with the government laws useless in most cases. We have OSHA to cover work conditions, have an accident and they are right on it. Sexual harassment, is taken care of by law as is unreasonable reassignment of a job, As in hiring a 90 pound woman to work the switch board then sending her to another job that requires her to lift 50 pound boxes every 3 minutes.

We have several honey hams, not to mention 4 types of potato salad....You don't need to buy anything Vesta. Just hello would be nice...

I agree for the most part.

As for the OP...Do you need a ****ing midol? I have a super industrial size jug of them that I eat like candy. So you should trust me when I say that having your tampon in crooked is no way to go through life son.
It's even worse when he puts them in backwards and he's using the string to floss from the inside.
Talk about your cotton-pickers.
Oh, and noobie? 120 million a year is chicken feed in the grand scheme of things. IBEW alone is pushing a billion per year. Then there's SEIU, AFSCME, the Teamsters, NEA, etc...
Starting to get the ****ing picture? WalMart employees, IF they unionized, would be part of UFCW...ONE union.
Now disappear, scumbag.

I'm laughing my ass off because chrisbeenumbers just sent a hate-filled, "**** you asshole" PM to me.
Jeezus H. Sufferin' Keerist.
This idjit comes in, whines about Wal-mart, shits on the carpet, and leaves for a couple of weeks to come back and send hate-filled rants via PM?
At me?
:crybaby:

He did the same to me a while back for the same thread. Guess he got out of jail and came back to read the replies today. :)

He called me a "****ing bitch" so he might've gotten me confused with you.
In any case, the sumbitch has been shitcanned. :-)

Well, the timbre of his PM indicated that he was pissed off at the entire world. So mamacags must've been in there somewhere. :lmao:

I can't wait for Wal-Mart to unionize so I can start paying $389.99 for a can of cat food.

The left never seems to realize that. Unionizing those stores would hurt poor people more than it would help the workers in those stores.

Yet they are smarter because they "care" more.

This is bullshit. I brought the midol AND tampons and I didn't even get a ****youverymuch in my PM box!!!! :bird:
-
I know, I don't get so much as a "**** you very much" even from the DU types anymore.
What's a guy gotta do to piss someone off bad enough? I've already dick-punched 'em, what more do they need?
