Actually in the lore of Bill Buckley, I prefer the time that he called Gore Vidal a "little faggot", or something along those lines........

As I recall that was one of the few times Bill Buckley lost his temper during a debate.Vidal snickered down his nose at Buckley and he,Bill, threatened to deck the arrogant little fairy !William F Buckly was a rare man and will be much missed in America Commentary for his eloquence and charm but mostly for his Brilliant Mind,R.I.P.Bill Buckley !  !

Unfortunately, I'm old enough to admit that I was actually watching that debate live that night.....as I recall it was during one of the political conventions....and a rare moment in live television......I agree that Buckley was a true gift to the conserative movement, and will be sorely missed....particularly when viewed in the light of the truly sorry-assed excuses for conservatives that we are subjected to today......

.....And deference to TNO's OP....Buckley debating with Hitchens is kinda like watching a cat stalk a mouse......entertaining to watch, but everyone knows the eventual outcome.....

The Uncommon Knowledge episode featuring Mr. Hitchens and Mr. Buckley was more like an interview than a debate.

Do you have any thoughts on Buckley's admission that the Vietnam War was a mistake?

Irrelevant.  Vietnam, and its legacy, is part of history.  Not many, including even the right wing, supported Vietnam after some time had passed.

Cutting homeroom today?

....my thoughts would be...If Bill Buckley said it, barring strong personal knowledge to the contrary, I would have a tendency to believe that it is true......

I thought that war, started by Democrat President Kennedy and turned into a quagmire by Democrat President Johnson, was over?
