In the meta forum on Skins's island, so no link.

so the term "nanny" as in "thread nanny" is now verboten?
I used the word in response to a bossy and critical poster. My post was hidden, and I can no longer participate in my own thread!
Do we add the term "nanny" to the list of forbidden words now?

4. If it makes you feel better
I alerted on the thread as an SOP violation, since it properly belongs here in Meta. So when it's locked you won't have to worry about others posting in that thread.
It's good you have this placeholder here in Meta.
That is unless you self delete it first.
They are (for the most part) not exactly an imaginative bunch.

Another confirmation of my DU jury theory.

10. Or maybe it was that you posted that you want to stop allowing new members to post, someone not surprisingly disagreed, and you resorted to name-calling. Hmmm, guess the jury system worked this time.
grasswire (35,393 posts) Mon Oct 8, 2012, 01:59 PM
15. "nanny" is name-calling?
Name-calling, IMO, is "wop" or "bitch" or "retard". Etc.
From what you say, it's legitimate for a poster to alert if he/she simply does not agree with a premise the OP puts forward.
Is that what you say?
Personally, I am for robust and open communication. I cut my Internet teeth in an uncensored forum run by the AOL: I have been called every name in the book on the Internets, and have never suffered for it.
How can Democrats fight the truly hateful right if they are afraid of the word "nanny"?
^^has horrid, horrid, horrid "picture" in mind of the pie-and-jam primitive cutting her teeth.

23. Namecalling doesn't necessarily have to involve a bigoted word.
Most namecalling isn't alerted, or at least it isn't hidden. Rudeness is listed as one of the examples of things not allowed according to the community standards. But of course most people here seem to love it.
You got a jury of people who consider namecalling rude, and who agree with the community standards as they were originally spelled out. I've seen juries flat out disagree that rudeness and being over the top are against the community standards, so I'd say you were just very unlucky. Maybe some people you've disagreed with in the past were in the jury. I've seen some jury comments which indicate that grudges and personal animosity play a part in some decisions as well.

19. the post responded to was, to put it mildly, "dickish".
(and who knows, perhaps this post will get hidden too.)
"thanks, nanny' in response to what was essentially a grammar flame combined with a high handed admonition, seems entirely appropriate to me.

25. thank you
I felt insulted.
^^imagines the grasswire primitive, decked out in seven winter coats and ice inside her brassiere, looking insulted.

11. That was weird.
Just more proof that "you take your chances". That was snark but I've given up alerting on snark, because juries allow it mostly. I seem to land on one juror who will only hide for TOS violations every time.
Bad luck, grasswire.
eta: Just for the record, I don't think it was hide-worthy.

13. Guess the jury thought you were rude to another member. It's not the word, but how it's used.
Sorry you got locked out of your own thread, but he or she did make a good point about the use of the word 'resolved.' That does mean there has been a consensus made, and you were 'proposing' a solution, not a done deal.
Many use these words to formalize our opinion, but he was correct in a literary sense. I would not have voted to hide. I would have sat back with popcorn to watch you two thrash it out.
I wish there was a way to slow down troll posting. It's discouraging and disruptive as one goes along a thread to find points made, and then the mind goes in reverse, saying 'WTF?'
It was a good idea, anyway, but I don't know if it's techically possible. It would be interesting to see a tally of how many people join in one day. One might hope that the newbies are progressives who have been energized with recent news. But you are right, the trolls are paid to skew data.

14. Someone disagrees, you call them a "thread nanny" rather than debating and complain about it being hidden?

16. again: when did the word "nanny" gain so much power?
Why are we afraid of this word?

I had been the target. Good grief.

22. And yet the condescending post you responded to is is quite OK?
Maybe you need to infiltrate one or more the various factions of the PC crowd?
Convince them you have seen the light by banning a few trolls that had the audacity to post nothing but benign posts and bragging in META about your prowess. You know, building their post count before the strike that takes out DU?
Alert on random words on select questionable members posts, because those words cause YOU stress.
It is starting to seem any word, in any context, can be objected to, on the say so of any Alerter, just because the alerter said so. And if the alerted on, is not a member in good standing of a PC clique, a jury will buy the explanation without much question.

24. a jury could be all trolls, couldn't it?
It's possible. Trolls/moles. There's no way to prevent that. And my OP would definitely offend a troll.
I don't get into any clique stuff, so if there's a clique after me, I am oblivious to it.
Well, on second thought......that bunch of yahoo cavers is after most decent Americans here.
Too bad for the pie-and-jam primitive.
The DUmpster doesn't go after "decent Americans;" in fact, the DUmpster is comprised of decent Americans.
The DUmpster goes after only primitives.

I've never heard the pie-and-jam primitive's voice, but I imagine it as being a whiny, twangy, low-decibel sort of voice.

The pie-and-jam primitive's still pissed off that her big buddy Omaha Steve was ridiculed for being a prominent poster on a "Democratic" message-board--as if Skins's island is mainstream or something, like the Red Cross or the American Automobile Association.
Yeah, right, "mainstream."

So many of the real DUmmies dislike the jury system and refuse to serve that many times juries are made up of nothing but moles.

I admit to insulting the idiot.

Poor addled grasswipe Judy Smith, with her "research" and "investigations", reminds me of a post from poor stupid Beth Ferrari a year or so ago.
Poor stupid Beth said she appreciated her fellow DUmpmates because they "have validated me as a thinker and a writer".

I did on that one.
grAssWipe is clutching pearls again, and her panties are in a bunch.
Deserved to be hidden just to make her cry.

I wasn't on that jury but I am flexible on hiding posts depending on how bad a light it puts the DUchebags at the DUmp in.

I dunno where the pie-and-jam primitive's going to end up in the rankings, but I suspect she's already a winner in the Top DUmmies of 2012, even though nominations don't even start for 44 days yet. Not first place, but somewhere between second and twentieth top primitive, which means she'll get her own individual special award, hand-crafted by franksolich himself.
It should be fun; as I said, it's weird how crazy people are the last people to understand that they're crazy.

She can't be happy that she was passed over for a guest appearance in Omaha Steve, but she may yet get her 15 minutes of fame.

What is the "meta-forum" Frank? I just started seeing it referenced here and don't know what it is.
-
Okay, which one of you pricks has been insulting poor addled grasswipe Judy Smith?
Not me.
I've been concentrating on Catbyte, who may or may not be another one of my moles.
-
What is the "meta-forum" Frank? I just started seeing it referenced here and don't know what it is.
It's where the primitives go to wiggle-waggle their armpits at each other when they have a grievance about Skins's island.
It used to be an open forum, and was much quoted here, but since it was a public forum, nobody had any need to specifically identify it as the "meta forum." Now that it's closed to the general public, one has to mention it's the "meta forum," so as to explain why no link.
The primitives had some real knock-out drag-out fights when it was public; one of the threads caused the oblate spheroid to comment in a mass personal-message to other primitives that she was going to do away with herself because of the meanies among the primitives. Yep, she actually said she'd do herself in, slash her wrists or take an overdose of drugs or noose herself in a closet or something.
As usual, the oblate spheroid didn't keep her promise.
Ever since the "meta forum" became open to registered members only, it's calmed down considerably.
It used to be a riot, and many of those melees were posted here--but again without being identified as coming from the "meta forum," because they could be linked.

This, from the shout-box here, in case anyone missed it:
[Tue 07:31] <Ballygrl> OMG! I'm looking up a recipe that involves Cabbage that I saw on a show last night, so guess what comes up 2nd in Google results? this place "primitives discuss cabbages" I thought that's weird to see the name primitives while searching for cabbage, and yep, there's a thread here about it.
I dunno why the pie-and-jam primitive dislikes us so much.
After all, if it weren't for the DUmpster, nobody'd know the primitives even exist.
-
Just google "Kramarczuk's stuffed cabbage recipe" and CC comes up 2nd.
-
Why is the grasswhiner primitive so surprised? Live for the nanny state, die by means of the nanny state.
-
I always vote to hide the post, no matter what the complaint is.
I'll stick to the 5th. Besides, I haven't been over there since I got back online. Too easy to figure out who my mole(s) are after bein' gone so long. Wouldn't be good to show up here and there at the same time. heh!
