Economists expect employers added 113,000 jobs in September, while the unemployment rate edged up to 8.2 percent from August's 8.1 percent, according to a Reuters survey. Friday’s report will be the second-to-last before the November election.
“Because of [this jobs report’s] juxtaposition to election, there will be significant political ramifications, perhaps more so than for the market,†said Art Hogan, managing director at Lazard Capital Markets. "Politically, anything that pushes the cause of the Romney camp forward could have a positive effect on the market." (Read More: Wall Street Hopes for Romney, but Expects Obama to Win)

Unemployment Rate Is Better Than When President Obama Took Office!
But one must ask how does this negate nearly four years of crappy numbers. Should we be shouting "Hosanna" and dance in the street because one set of (probably) manipulated numbers shows a minimal improvement?
Were we not promised better things than this in 2008?
-
The all-important rate for comparison needs to be what the unemployment rate was at the end of the effectual Bush administration, January 3, 2007.
Remember, his last two years in office, he was hobbled and obstructed by Harry and Bela.
-
The 7.8% is misleading ..
Please forgive me, but this is long. I didn't want to miss any of it.
[snip]
The streak is over, but that is very misleading.
With over three consecutive years of unemployment above 8 percent, September’s still disappointing jobs reportshows an addition of a meager 114,000 jobs. That’s enough to make unemployment drop to 7.8 percent from the 8.1 percent after August.
The number of unemployed persons (12.1 million) dropped by 456,000.
The number of persons unemployed (2.5 million) for less than 5 weeks declined by 302,000.
The number of long-term unemployed persons (jobless for 27 weeks or more) was little changed at 4.8 million.
The number of long-term unemployed persons accounted for 40.1 percent of the unemployed.
Total employment rose by 873,000 in September.
The Labor Force Participation rate was little changed at 63.6 percent.
The number of persons employed part-time for economic reasons rose from 8.0 million in August to 8.6 million in September.
If the number of unemployed dropped by 456,000, but only 114,000 jobs were added, that means that 342,000 people left the workforce in some fashion. Couple that with the fact that the number of part-time workers saw an increase of 582,000 while manufacturing unemployment saw a decrease of 16,000 jobs and this drop in unemployment rate begins to looks less and less optimistic, and more like a misleading mathematical equation.
In 2012, employment growth has averaged a gain of 146,000 jobs per month, a drop from the average monthly gain of 153,000 in 2011. Given these numbers, the 114,000 jobs added in September begin to look worse and worse, regardless of what the often-misleading unemployment rate says.
The much more telling U-6 unemployment rate, which accounts for unemployment, underemployment, and those marginally attached to the workforce, remained the same at 14.7 percent. That 7.8 percent number does not include so many factors and does not tell the whole story. For instance, if a worker should be employed full time but could only find part time work in September, they helped the “unemployment rate†decrease from 8.1 to 7.8 percent, but they would not have changed the U-6 number at 14.7 percent.
Expect Obama to brag about the addition of 114,000 jobs and the drop in the (misleading) unemployment rate to 7.8 percent, but don’t be fooled. These numbers are still paltry compared to where they should be, or else the U-6 number would have dropped. As CNBC puts it, “Friday’s report underscored how slowly the jobs market is recovering from the depths of the 2008 financial crisis and likely will stoke increased debate amid the halting gains the latest numbers indicate.â€

Let's see, nothing of significance that is good has happened in the last several years, much less months, but I'm suppose to believe the unemployment rate went from over 8% for 43 months in a row to 7.8% is the last month? Yeah, right.
This is what I keep saying here. This is more than obvious, but there's a whole bunch of really stupid people in the country that will believe this. And this is what we're up againt: Idiots. And worse than that, they're idiots who are more than happy to sit around, do nothing, and let everyone else work for their living.

I heard this this morning, however there was a caveat, the number is expected to rise 1% this month. Odd, no? :whatever:

Why are there other articles even on NPR showing the 8.2%?

cooking the books.
Simple math for you idiots......22,500,000 unemployed in a workforce total of 145,000,000. adding 114,000 jobs brings the unemployment rate down .3%. How many people left the workforce, how convenient to leave that out? How many new jobs do you need to create just to keep up with population growth - 125,000/mth. Obama is a complete and abject failure/liar who will do anything to keep his free house, copter, and jet.

From what I have read this number was arrived at by having the house hold survey magically find roughly 800,000 home based self employed workers.
It is highly doubful in my mind that could be the case but no idea if there is any oversight to make sure they simply don`t make up numbers.

I read ...*ahem*... they are using a new model.
The Ministry of Propaganda is working overtime. Here's a cute little nugget via AOSHQ:
The best news anywhere in the U.S. economy over the past three months has been in the government sector, where unemployment has dropped dramatically from 5.7 percent in July to 5.1 percent in August to 4.3 percent in September, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Both the federal and state governments increased their employees in July, August and September.
How in the :censored: :censored: :censored: do you quantify government unemployment/employment? Those not paying attention will continue to do so.
-
Team Obama have muddied the waters and I think that was the goal. Romney will debate using one set of numbers and Obama will argue another set and each side will accuse each other of lying.

The Obamanation Administration is counting people that pick up aluminum cans and stand along side the road with signs begging for food or money as being self employed.

At one point...I think it was when I was about 3...we had a media that would actually investigate this kind of thing. Lucky for us, the majority of the population no longer believe anything coming from the 0bama administration or the press.
That's the result when you lie too much and those lies are on public display. This last lie, on display in spectacular fashion. The entire middle east explodes, diplomats & Marines killed (Vegas babeeeeee!!!!), weapons not generally brought to spontaneous protests and not an ounce of it is because of a weak president bragging about killing the leader of Al Qaeda but over a video no one has ever seen.

Oh no it is more than that. It is over 1.1 million people that became consultants or started their own business.
Given: 114,000 new jobs by current employers. We know that 356,000 people left the work force. This cuts the number of unemployed by 470,000, which is about what has been happening for the last 6 months. So how did the total labor force increase by 876,000?
Through the miraculous household survey. This complete guess indicates that over 1,117,000 (876,000+114,000-356,000) people became consultants or started their own business. I maybe wrong on this by putting in the 114,000 as a positive which would indicate that the household guess poll thinks that 1,231,000 started business or became consultants. either way, I smell the scent of sweet, sweet unicorn farts.

Yeah it's popular to tell people you are "self employed" when you are really "unemployed", at least that's what some counselors used to tell people.

I just read that it was the largest drop in a single month in almost 30 years. Wow!!!
But didn't he promise a 5.8 percent unemployment rate?
Interesting enough... 7.8 ties Bushes worse unemployment rate of his entire 8 years.

Not what I mean. What I mean is the rate that the Obamessiah stated would be the UE rate this month, if the stimulus was passed.

Why are there two monthly measures of employment?
the household survey has a more expansive scope than the establishment survey because it includes the self-employed, unpaid family workers, agricultural workers, and private household workers, who are excluded by the establishment survey.
Are undocumented immigrants counted in the surveys?
The household survey does include questions which identify the foreign and native born, but it does not include questions about the legal status of the foreign born.
Does the official unemployment rate exclude people who have stopped
looking for work?
Yes
.
-
unpaid family workers,
WTF? I work, my wife doesn't, but does take care of our dog. Does that qualify as an unpaid family worker?
