8-Year-Old Big Bird Fan To Mitt Romney: 'You Find Something Else To Cut Off!'

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/04/mitt-romney-big-bird_n_1940400.html

Eight-year-old Alabama resident Cecelia Crawford wasn't happy during the debate on Wednesday night when Mitt Romney said he would stop government funding for PBS.

On Thursday morning, she was still angry, so she wrote Romney a letter, sent along to The Huffington Post by her mother. Crawford wrote that she is a fan of "Sesame Street" and that it was her "favorite show on earth" when she was younger.

"When I grow up I'm going to get married and I want my kids to watch it so do not cut it off," Crawford wrote. "You find something else to cut off!"

-snip-

Crawford's mother mailed the letter on Thursday to Romney's campaign headquarters.

Read Crawford's full letter to Romney:

After which comes a picture of the letter written by the 8 year old.

WE as a country need to grow up!  WE have too many in this country who need to learn the word "NO!"  WE are the ones who are going to have to make the hard choice to pick someone who will KILL a lot of this indiscriminate spending.  It isn't going to be easy and the candidate who runs on that platform (as hopefully Mitt is doing) is going to have a hard time with it because no one wants to have their pet program cut.

At my home if we can't afford it we don't buy it.  My kids, my wife and myself have heard the 'N' word more times than I can count.  It's not pleasant to hear it but it's something that has to be said from time to time or we would be in the friggin' poor house!

It seems the line that has stuck more than any is that Romney wants to kill Big Bird. I think Gore defeated Bush in the first debate, but people started to ridicule him for the lockbox idea. Romney handily defeated Obama on style, but a week from now, it seems all we will remember is that Romney thinks killing Big Bird will fix the deficit.

No, DUmmie it is just an illustration of what the problem is.  Cut spending, don't increase revenue.  When will you learn that the more revenue we give our government the more they are going to spend.  It will NEVER stop!  WE have to stop it.

If this kids parents are the type that would vote for Dear Leader, chances for her growing up to be a mooch is far greater than if her parents were conservatives.

This PBS thing is DOA.  On occasion it has some good programming, like the Ken Burns series.  But it's not something most people care about.

This is the 10's, not the 50's. PBS is about 40 years past any particular relevance as a broadcasting entity. Besides, we don't have "broadcasting" anymore, everything is streamed through cable and satellite. Even local stations.

Frankly, Sesame Street should get out of its victim mindset and tell PBS to take a hike and get its own network. It WOULD be more profitable through its corporate entity that would pretty much guarantee double its current programming, with no advertising (just like PBS), and actually reach more people, especially the lower income people.

BUT...it's not about Sesame Street, because if it were, then there would be no question. It's about maintaining a non-accountable, socialist/progressive entity that is subsidized by the public. THAT crap doesn't deserve the pixels on any screen. It's a pity that they have to take the Sesame St. crowd to cry when it's just a matter of shifting financial accountability.

Every other damned thread over there has the words "Big Bird" in it.  This comes up from time to time, doesn't it?  Romney just doesn't want to borrow money from China to pay for shit.  It's that simple, and emminently reasonable.  PBS can fund their shortfall some other way.  Corporate sponsorships and the like.  Muppets royalties.

That's the problem with libs they can't stand the thought of anything getting cut. They constantly talk about "shared sacrifice", but can't be bothered to give up a free tee vee show. They also aren't smart enough to realize that PBS could just air a few toy commercials and SS could stay on the air.

What makes this even worse is it seems that ALL the DUmmies got out of last night was Romney wants to cut funding to PBS.  If that's all anyone wants to talk about then there is no reason to discuss the debate with them.

Why should I care what an 8 year old thinks? I barely pay attention to what anyone under the age of about 25 thinks about politics anyways, especially if they've never done anything with their lives.

How about demanding a return to the US Treasury of a more-than-generous share of the marketing revenue generated over the past 40 years of Sesame Street?   I KNOW it runs into the billions of dollars.

To H*LL with cuts!  I want reimbursement.

What is an 8 year old staying up to watch the debate for? And how would that 8 year old know anything that is going on, or care? Unless their parents drilled them with it? I call BS on this just like the 12 year old letter they spread. This child's parents wrote the letter and passed it off as the child. If it is even real, which I doubt it is.

This is one of the left's favourite tactics - to use a precocious kid to score political points. I wonder if "Crawford"'s mother realizes she was conceding the point that Romney was going to be the next POTUS with this one.

As has been pointed out (of course, one of the millions of facts the left ignores) Sesame Street really is not government funded.  Some parts of public broadcasting may decrease, but shows like Sesame Street will be just fine without Uncle Sam's help.

And then there's this: Big Bird Richer than Romney (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Hollywood/2012/10/04/Big-Bird-Richer-Than-Romney)

Quote
According to Senator Jim DeMint:

Shows like Sesame Street are multi-million dollar enterprises capable of thriving in the private market. According to the 990 tax form all nonprofits are required to file, Sesame Workshop President and CEO Gary Knell received $956,513 -- nearly a million dollars -- in compensation in 2008. And, from 2003 to 2006, "Sesame Street" made more than $211 million from toy and consumer product sales.

Sesame Street would have no problem finding a new home away from PBS and on a commercial network.   The left is really concerned with the so-called news shows with their perpetual left leaning slant remaining on the air at the expense of tax payers.

If there were no PBS, there would still be Sesame Street.  However, if there were no Sesame Street, there would be no PBS.

It is this fact that you find uncomfortable.  And as far as NPR goes, ****, I dunno why it's even on at all.  It's Err Amerika with government bailout money.  You know, like MSNBC, but smaller, if that's possible.

My 8-year old doesn't spend much time in front of the boob tube (imagine that; throw the boob tube out of the damned house, and time spent with video Valium goes down; who'da thunk?? )  When he does watch (usually from Hulu or similar streaming sites) though, his favorites are shows like the 70s programs Emergency! and Star Blazers, or the 80s programs Airwolf and Robotech.  He really can't be bothered to spare more than about 5 minutes for the crap being put on the airwaves these days.

Yeah, I'm pretty proud of him. :shucks:

The problem i have wit hPBS and NPR is this. Why is the Government in compatition with public airwaves? It is not the state or Fedreal Governments job to be in the broadcasting business as far as making or supporting boradcast on TV or Radio. Taxpayers money should not be used for that and if State or local governments want to do that it is one thing but the Federal Government has no mandate to do so. Also if anyone has watched their programing it looks like it's stuck in the 1960's. Alot of cooking shows, politcal comentary(Mostly from the left),Documentries and operas and some BBC comedies. Alot of that is already on cable or satelite TV andyet they want the people to pay for that and their cable or Digital TV and Internet entertainemt as well? It's long time past for PBS to go away.

It's just like when they talk as though we're as hate-filled and generally malign as they...they do not have the self-awareness to consider that people are different and that their particular set of traits are not universal. They are stupid and cannot perceive that others are not as stupid as they.

That and they think they have the only opinion that matters. So they insist that people listen to them only. Maybe someday they will learn that their opinions are stupid.

Sounds like Big Bird needs to pay his fair share.

And we haven't even begun to talk about the Barney The Purple Dinosaur profits yet.

It was really, really, really stupid to bring PBS into the debate.

The debates are for the DUmbest of the numbskulls, people with zero political philosophy and zero understanding of the subjects being debated.

Then you bring in Big Bird, and they perk up and say "whoa, I like Big Bird". Right there you lost a vote.

Totally reality fail.  What self-respecting kitchen sponge would live in saltwater?

Really!  Evian or nothing!

Man I hate that show. He lives in a ****ing pineapple. A pineapple. Under the sea. How did it get there and why doesn't it rot? If it's a "fake" pineapple then how would anyone living under the sea even know what a pineapple is, let alone what it looks like and why it would be a good housing option?

And aren't he and that stupid starfish a little too close?

Cindie

I find it funnier when I replace a word or two in my mind...

For Example...

Quote from: Naughty Nautical Neighbors
Patrick: (stands up and yells at Spongebob) And that makes you a big DUmmy, you DUmmy!

Spongebob: (stands up and yells at Patrick) Yeah, well that means that, uhh...so are you!

Patrick: Well, you’re a bitch!

Spongebob: What’s that?

Patrick: It’s what you are!

Spongebob: Well, you’re a bigger one!

etc etc etc..

Spongebob has called Mrs. Puff a "C" word on a couple of occasions too.  He says, "C U Next Tuesday, Mrs. Puff!" in at least two episodes.

There are three good cartoon shows, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Spongebob, and VeggieTales.

The best thing in Spongebob is the sound Squidward makes when he walks.
