Ikon claims that even as Webster's Dictionary has revised "P'WND" to show Obama's face in it, that Romney has LOST THE ELECTION. That's like saying that after a boxer winning every round, knocking down the champion every minute, that the refs will lift the arm of the one losing at the end of the fight? Ha ha ha!! Like they didn't see or already forgot how hard their IRA's and 401K's got hammered in this recession, and that's exactly what Mitt has in store for them. No guarantees, like Social Security. Right now in this country is the largest generational shift of assets from an older generation to a younger, and the smell of all that money is driving Wall Street mad. I"m so tired of the damn PBS thing.

When all you get on some pages are public school teachers who want to get their hackles raised over Sesame Street, I swear to God there is no hope! Note to teacher friends: Don't be a one-trick pony--this is TOO important and if SS is so important, perhaps the big teacher's union should dip into it's pocketbook and make sure Sesame Street continues to be funded if it's that pathetic that it's hanging by it's last leg--not that it needs to be--I have no doubt it would have no problem competeing in an open market, but it might have to appeal to a broader audience then the inner city set it is set in.

This whole Big Bird thing is where you can tell people let their emotions run ridiculous. I watched SS as a child too and I've seen things over the years I both agree with and disagree with so it has allowed itself in some ways to be used, at the very least, as a current cultural platform, over the years. But taxes to a tv show, in the day and age of cable and that kind of accessibility, is just unnecessary. Perhaps the thing really bothering teachers is they realize if this dinosaur bites the dust, public funding for schools might be next.

And again, I'm not enemy to schools or Big Bird and I happen to love watching Are you being served, but dang it. Come on now! :banghead:

When there were threats of PBS losing funding last year? They were touting that the funding they get from the government is less than a 10th of what they needed. They get the rest from the donations they receive. So let them lose it.

Given the level of delusion displayed by DU on this thread, I can almost see them trying to convince themselves for the next four years that Obama actually won and is still President.

When you consider how much money Sesame Street makes off of its franchise, why on earth should it still need the funding of the government? Are you telling me that with all of their toys, books, etc. Sesame Street wouldn't survive without being broadcast for free?

 With the internet, it would be possible to have all the artsy stuff that PBS shows available for free as well.  They could create a PBS channel on YouTube and broadcast it to their hearts desire.
