My son Joshua, has been getting into building and flying model rockets (the Estes kits) in a big way. Back when I was a kid, they had a rocket that packed a 110-size film camera into a nosecone/payload section. Well, I thought the modern version of something like that would be a fun thing to add to his repertoire, but nobody makes anything like that anymore; commercially, anyway. So, it looks like I'm gonna buy a stock rocket kit, and modify the nose cone to install one of these into it, as a gift for Christmas this year.

H5 for stirring up some good memories from my past.
What about starting with a rocket that has a payload bay? http://www.instructables.com/id/Model-Rocket-with-horizontal-HD-video-keychain-cam/
Kinda what I had in mind. A payload bay like THIS (http://www.estesrockets.com/rockets/kits/skill-2/003227-loadstartm-ii) ought to give me enough space to mount the cam without too many odd curves to have to adapt new parts to. I'm still planning on arranging a "periscope" system in the side of the bay, in order to give the camera the best view possible.
