Title: The word "Freshman" is banned as sexist
Post by: RobJohnson on October 02, 2012, 07:38:09 PM

This week I take my show on the road to the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, one of those "liberal" colleges. There the word "Freshman" is banned as sexist ("First Year", freshman are now called). It's a violation of the school's speech code to "explicitly or implicitly ask for sex" (So how does a student get there...).

Hadley Heath, a UNC graduate, says that debate on campus is stifled and if you're not a liberal... better keep to yourself.

Ironic you should post this today as I was just reading how colleges are suppressing free speech. At one time colleges were thought of as bastions of free speech.

 Colleges Keep Suppressing Free Speech

This article appeared on Cato.org on September 26, 2012.

“Among the college seniors in the survey sample, only 30.3 percent answered that they strongly agreed that ‘it is safe to hold unpopular views on campus.’”

This information is from “Unlearning Liberty” (Encounter Books), a book coming out next month by Greg Lukianoff, president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), the only full-time organization exposing and diligently combatting the transformation of future leading Americans into passive pawns of authoritarian governments.

Colleges are still bastions of free speech.

As long as that speech agrees with liberal ideology.

I always thought the rules of grammar allowed you to use the word "man" or "men" in a gender neutral situation by an author.

Of course this would really screw up those trying to determine their sexual identity.  :lmao:

A good HS friend of mine works for the USDA there.  He's a huge lib, but I forgive him for it.

Sadly, NC has had a large influx of flatlanders from NY/NJ, etc., in the last 20-30 years.

I would be using the term constantly.

"Freshman" now equals "Brand-New-Person"?

First year student is the preferred term, I believe.

The next thing you know, they'll be banning the term "n00b" because the "n" on the keyboard lies right next to the "b", thereby making "b00b" a distinct possibility.

Idjits.   :whatever:

This is ridiculous

Soon they will be saying that"juniors and seniors" should be banned, based on age discrimination!! It's a unisex word. Why do people make a big deal out of the most trivial things.... :banghead:

Ah, but "political correctness" is the new name for communism, once all the "right" words are deleted from our language the central government will have much more power, "to control the people" (per, Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) (http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2010/03/rep_dingell_its_taken_a_long_t.html) ..."to put the legislation together to control the people.").

OMG! The Republic is saved! All the jobs should be back tomorrow! It was the word "Freshman" all along! Thank you University of North Carolina!

It'll be an 0bama landslide now!

I wonder why the King of Nuance couldn't figure this out, though. It raises serious questions about 0bama's ability to lead.
