Topic: Domestic policy
Air Time: 9:00-10:30 p.m. Eastern Time
Location: University of Denver in Denver, Colorado (Tickets)
Sponsor: Commission on Presidential Debates
Participants: President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney
Moderator: Jim Lehrer (Host of NewsHour on PBS)
The debate will focus on domestic policy and be divided into six time segments of approximately 15 minutes each on topics to be selected by the moderator and announced several weeks before the debate.
The moderator will open each segment with a question, after which each candidate will have two minutes to respond. The moderator will use the balance of the time in the segment for a discussion of the topic.
O.k the first debate is this Wednesday at 9:00 Pm. It will be Romney vs. Captain Zero. I think I can amass that a majority of us here will be watching it. How do you think it will turn out?
I hope Romney rips obama apart. He needs to get his game going. He needs to mention every failure that obama has had (The list is going to be long), and he needs to stress that obama is incompetent, doesn't care about this country, caters to terrorists, supports muslim extremists groups, and hates Israel. I guess some of those can be saved for the foreign policy debate, but he can still give us a bone or two.
For this being domestic categories, Romney could stress about how obama is for illegal immigration and not for legal immigration. He can also point out the fact that obama is suing states to stop any form of upholding immigration laws. And put a main point in the hole about how obama is for voter fraud.

We'll see how the teleprompter responds to any charges.

Tonight is the first debate. It is going to be aired on all the national stations, all the news stations, current and Cspan. I will warn you to stay away from MSNBC, unless you want to see the love fest they are going to have for their king.
What is your over/under for it? They were saying on the radio this morning that the over is one punch...
I am seriously hoping that Romney grows some and hammers obama for his failed policies and racist division. obama needs to be taken to the woodshed and shown how much of a nobody he is.

I think we're going to need smaller glasses for this one... or more beer.

This one will make for interesting reading in the morning.

That it will! :rotf: :lmao:

I wonder what they will say tonight? I hope Romney brings up about how the private sector is not doing fine, about how obama is suing states for trying to stop voter fraud, about how thousands of people serving in the military are losing their absentee ballots, about how obama is suing states for upholding a federal law on immigration, about how obama hates Israel and sides with the Muslim brotherhood and Pres of Egypt.
To make it sweeter, I would like to see Romney bring up about how obama hates Christians and doesn't honor National Day of Prayer, Easter, and even doesn't pray at public events, and doesn't put his hand on his heart while saying the pledge. There are a couple of pics with him doing it, but look at the dates and you will see that he is pandering.

How many "official" threads do we need for these debates, mods?
Gina opened one earlier today, now there's this one. :whatever:

I started this one on September 28th, Eupher. It must have gotten over looked ....
I also posted in it because I didn't want to open a new one for the same subject. :-)
Edited for spelling.

So you did. Apparently Gina is the slow starter. My bad.
Mods merged 'em anyway, which is good. We just don't need multiple threads on the same damned subject.

In other news, hospitals across the country are reporting being swamped under a rash of alcohol poisoning cases this Thursday morning. Off-duty emergency crews were called in to assist with the nearly endless stream of 9-1-1 calls, which started about 10 minutes into the presidential debate broadcast last night. Administration officials have released a statement placing responsibility for this epidemic of binge drinking squarely on the shoulders of former President George W. Bush.
And now for the weather...

Okay, Kyle, I hope you or someone else is around to update this thread during the evening with observations and comments.
I can't tell you how much I personally appreciate them, being cut off from television and radio and all that.
When something's on television, I love these live threads.

I'm not gonna stay up for the debate tonight. I'll read/watch the highlights tomorrow.
Probably the best indicator that Romney won will be to row over to DUmmyland and if they are writhing in rage (well. more so that usual), good times that...
Points. Obama himself mentioned he was not a good debater and the DNC has been downplaying expectations.
Obama has had a lot of campaigning, but no give and take for the last 4 years. He hasn't even taken a tough question (outside of the recent Univision interview).
Romney has just come through a vigorous primary with 20 freakin debates. I still expect him to play the nice guy. Nice guys finish last, remember McCain? Being nice will not help you, Mitt.
--> President Bush lost his first debate to John Kerry if you can believe that. It girded his loins and he came back fighting in the next two debates for resounding wins.
This thread is on my reading list tomorrow.

We need one that's for pro Romney people and one that's for anti obama people.
-
I think we need to encourage both groups together to get the best result. Just sayin'....

Locking, and starting a new "live" thread.
There's nothing wrong, nothing wrong at all, with anyone starting a "live" thread.
However.
When one starts a "live" thread, the inference is that one's going to be around to baby-sit the thread, to spur it along, to keep it going, during the event the thread's covering.
Barring of course any unexpected last-minute emergency in real life.
If one starts a "live" thread, it's simple good manners to be around when the event's live.
