Title: 0bama's free phones!!!
Post by: Freeper on September 27, 2012, 06:39:30 PM
I'm assuming by now everyone has seen or heard that woman saying she loves 0bama because of her free phone. I went to the website and looked it over.
Under the FAQs they answer who pays for it.

http://obamaphone.net/who-pays-for-the-obama-phone

They claim it isn't tax dollars so all is cool right?

Quote
The Universal Service Fund (USF) was created back in 1997 by Federal Communication Commission in order to achieve the goals set by the Congress under the Telecommunication Act of 1996. According to the Act, telecommunication service providers are obliged to contribute a portion of their interstate and international telecommunications revenues.  These companies include paging service providers, wireless telephone companies, wire-line telephone companies, and Voice over Internet Protocol service providers. Some of the paying customers might find a line item named ‘Universal Service’ on their telephone bills. This is because some telecom companies choose to collect the amount they need to contribute to Universal Service Fund, from their subscribers.

That's right turns out odds are pretty good if you look closely at your phone bill you will see where they charge you for this service.

I use Sprint and that is on my bill.
So the taxpayers aren't on the hook for this, but you and I are if we have a cell phone.

So the next time you pay your cell phone bill think about that crazy woman in Ohio who is getting a free cell phone thanks to you.

Another interesting fact from the website.

Quote
This subsidized program is called Lifeline phones assistance program. But Obama hasn’t initiated it; it started few decades back and got its current format after going through several changes within this time. Safelink Wireless, the largest cellphone provider of the Lifeline program and a subsidiary of Tracfone, was created under the administration of George William Bush which received grants from a company that was launched during the Bill Clinton’s time

So once again 0bama is trying to take credit for what someone else did, in this case George William Bush.  :rotf:

T-Mobile also has that fee.  It's so nice to know that my cell phone is a luxury, but just a freebie to some low life Obama voter.

Reports of fraud........in a federal program noooooooooooo  :hammer:

But the program has come under fire for its $1 billion price tag and reports of fraud.

(break)

Odell Hilson sold his phone for $20 because he needed the money.

(break)

But in 2008, Lifeline added wireless providers and problems have been reported across the country ever since — people are getting dozens of free phones and not having the proof they need to be on the program at all.

I'm wondering how long it will be before they demand iphones.  :banghead:

My boyfriend's niece gets a free phone because she's on food stamps. She ticks me off because she complains that they don't offer the kind of phone she wants. I told her a couple of times that she should be grateful just to GET a phone and "beggars can't be choosers". It just goes in one ear and out the other.

What does your boyfriend say about his niece being essentially a moocher?

Kinda like the welfare people who complain because there is no Christmas "bonus".

They probably do have iPhones.  I would love a Samsung Galaxy S III, but I can't afford the $300 price tag with the two year extension.  Well, I mean I could... but I would have to skip a car payment.  Unlike DUmmies, paying my bills on time is a much higher priority than some new phone.

OMG, Rush played that all the time during his show and I laughed every time.  Talk about ignorant-I can't even begin to compare the level of that bitch's stupidity to anyone on our side.  Plus, she is obviously the product of a Chicago like public school system.  Hell, she ought to put in an application there; she's a bonafide winner. :thatsright:

They cannot choose iPhones or Droids...thanks goodness. They get 250 minutes per month, but can purchase more if they want to. I can understand a HOME phone being a necessity (for emergencies and such); but not a cell phone.

Write Harry Reid and tell him you are owed a Galaxy 3.  :-)

I think it was a 1984 law that gave a free land line phone for emergencies to those that were poor and in bad health.

Give a DUmmie a freebie and get a billion dollar fraud program.

I say this now, but who NEEDS to be on a phone more than 250 minutes a month?

I have 450 minutes a month and I don't even get close to going over. I also get nights and weekends that don't count against that 450, even if they did I still wouldn't be in any danger of going over.

And I pay my own bill and the bill for someone to get an 0bama phone.

I have a plan where three of us (me, Scoobs, girl-child) have 700 minutes between us, with free mobile-mobile, night, and weekend minutes.  I highly doubt we've ever gone much over 200 minutes combined.

We have unlimited phone calls and only manage to make about 200-300 minutes a month.  We have free T-mobile to T-mobile calling.  So really, the only minutes counting towards our usage is to family and other random calls.

Can I just state for the record that it was GLARINGLY apparent that you know that, and Zeus's comments were so pompous and annoying that I find myself giving him a BS.

For the record Zeus - we all know you had to google to be able to post " But yes it's a program Initiated under the Clinton and Bush administrations."     As political junkies there are information dumps piled in our brains, which enable us to comment on topics without googling frequently.   I more than HIGHLY doubt this was in the dump pile.

But yes, I am a wee bit bitchy this morning.   :-)

1,400 a month, and I go over it EVERY MONTH.    When my husband was on active duty and traveling all the time we had the nationwide plan where you had the option to have about 10 phone numbers you call frequently to get a free pass with minutes on.   My most frequent callers were on that list.   That went away when we stopped paying for that plan (it was an expensive plan, but worth it because he traveled a great deal).    Now I get slammed on that and data.

I need the shared minute/data option, but AT&T isn't offering it yet.

We do pre-pay phones, I go through Net10 because they have a great selection of phones, my Husband and my Mom go through Tracfone. I just add minutes when my Husband and Mom need them, but they hardly use their phones, whereas I use mine a lot, I have to take my Mom to all her Doctor appts. and testing when she needs it, so it's awesome that I can get on the net while I'm waiting for her.

Net10 has plans where you add minutes when you need it or by the date on the phone, but they also offer unlimited monthly plans, you can get $50 per month for unlimited calls, text and internet and never have to worry about going over on data usage, or $65 per month unlimited for international calling.

I just saw a commercial for AT&T where they were offering shared data, might be only for new customers though.

I did prepaid for years, but I got greedy and wanted an iPhone so now I have a Sprint contract.  :-)

For the record I didn't need to Google to post my remark but I did after your post and the free phone program was intiated under the Reagan Admin with cell phones added and expanded under later admins.

Knowledge isn't necessarily knowing an answer but knowing where to go to get an answer.
