Oh my.

The problems the primitives have.  May they have more.

I am in shed ramp HELL.

Why can I order a ramp with my new shed, but I just can't order a ramp by itself?

It's only a six ft wide double door shed that's about a foot from the ground, but those two little metal ones I have are too difficult to deal with because of the tractor. I want something more permanent.

Why can I order a shed with a ramp, but not vice versa?

1. It might be cheaper to hire a carpenter to come out and build one. They're not hard to do and won't cost a fortune and a half.

It beats trying to pick a tractor up to put it in the shed.

My best guess is that they have the ones that come with the shed and not separate because they're attached while the shed is being built and might be harder to retrofit without the services of, you guessed it, a carpenter.

^^the defrocked warped primitive, she with &c., &c., &c.......

2. would the ramps they have at the auto supply work?

cheap.

^^of course; the hypochondrial primitive makes Ebenezer Scrooge look like a spendthrift, even though her husband has plenty of money.

Seriously?!?  When we built a shed last year, it didn't come with a ramp.  So I bought several treated 2x4s, cut most of them in half, screwed one to the shed about 2" under the doors, and built a ramp.  It took 2 or 3 hours, if I remember correctly.  Ah, but what am I thinking...this is a DUmmy, of course a carpenter will be required.   :loser:

That's what confused me about the defrocked warped primitive's suggestion.

What are the odds of someone who knows how to use a tractor not being expert in carpentry?

This is a DUmmie. It's probably a little riding lawn mower that sort of resembles a tractor. Or one of those plastic children's toys with pedals.

A couple of lengths of 2X12 and the problem is solved.

They need to make sure it's a union carpenter.  The ramp will cost more than the shed.

You people have to get with the program. Make a law saying that all sheds have to have ramps or you will be taxed for not having a ramp on your shed.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

If you think the problems government creates are bad, wait until you see the government solutions.

Exactly.  The DUmmie is talking about a lawn mower, not an actual tractor.

Actually aluminum ramps work quite well.

And since they are not permanently afixed to the barn with the ramps and a couple of cinder blocks you have a ramp that you can setup in your garage that will allow access to the bottom of the tractor, they will also allow you to get the tractor onto a trailor or into the bed of a pickup.

So DUmmie, lets make sure to underthink this mkay.

Heh, yeah I suppose...that's too bad.

It's not that hard to figgure out but then again they are called DUmmies for a reason.

Oh good freaking moonshine! I just built a new one for one of my coops last month. I'm no wiz at this kind of thing but this had to be one of the easiest things I've done.

I'll admit I've been looking away from the trainwreck that is the DUmp for quite awhile, because I needed a break from the hypocrisy and general victimized whining.  But this DIY forum is comedy GOLD!  I thought I was in need of guidance on some home-realted projects, but these people are just complete idiots!

They need to make sure it's a union carpenter.  The ramp will cost more than the shed.

Whoa Nellie, you said a mouthful there.  Once the carpenter and apprentice show up on site they will probably discover the shed is a non conforming structure according to code. It will also be necessary for a site review to determine if there are any wetlands or endangered specie concerns which need to be addressed.  Once the proper permits have been pulled to make the necessary modifications to bring said shed up to code it will be time to determine if the ramp will in fact be built in accordance with the current ADA standards.  If it is built to ADA standards because, well, it is the law, it will also require installation of grab rails on Ladybug's wallet.

Then it will become necessary to determine whether the carpenter will use pressure treated wood or composite recycled plastic.  Cutting either will require OSHA approved resperator protection, the extra cost passed on to the lucky bugger not to mention the disposal disposal cost of the hazardous materials generated.

Yup I can see this becoming the Taj Mahal of back yard union projects.  :whatever:

The DUmmy screwed it up.

He nailed the low end of the ramp to the shed.

Which reminds me. Back when we used to have to buy aftermarket mud flaps, and drill holes to attach them to the wheelwell, I saw a guy driving a new car with the mudflaps installed in front of each tire. So DUmmies existed even back in the early 70s.

Back in the 70's that may have been an option at GM/Chrysler not aftermarket.
