"Dammit! Why won't you mean ol' conservatives acknowledge our fictitious story? If we can make her phony, non-existent life a success we just know we can do it for everyone else too!
"And she was totally my girlfriend at sleep away camp one summer and we even did it together...in her vagina!"

Why Are the Right-Wing Media Obsessed with an Imaginary Woman's Success Story?
http://www.alternet.org/tea-party-and-right/why-are-right-wing-media-obsessed-imaginary-womans-success-story
Conservatives talk a lot about "dependency," but it's not clear that they know what the word means. Consider, for example, the right's bizarre reaction to a rather benign online campaign the White House pushed briefly earlier this year called “ The Life of Julia ,†a slide-show featuring a fictional Everywoman that was meant to highlight how Obama's policies might improve the lives of average Americans.
It follows the Julia character from age 3 through her retirement. She's self-sufficient, hard-working and entrepreneurial; the embodiment of what conservatives are supposed to applaud. Although she isn't born into a wealthy family, her perserverence is ultimately rewarded with success.
If you're not a consumer of the conservative media, you may not have even heard about Julia, but the right is obsessed with her to an extent that's kind of creepy. Rush Limbaugh described the campaign as “a perfect illustration of liberal cradle-to-grave care for every citizen with the government making every decision, making everything possible, and leaving nothing to chance.†At Hot Air, Ed Morrissy bemoaned “the cradle-to-grave, government-supported existence of 'Julia.'†A diarist at Red State called it , “cradle-to-grave socialism for America.†There are thousands of columns and blog-posts decrying Julia's supposed “dependency†on the government. Perhaps the American Power blog summed up the right's reaction best : “What we are left with is a celebration of a how a woman can live her entire life by leaning on government intervention, dependency and other people's money rather than her own initiative or hard work.â€
They've come to believe that Julia is dependent on the government, but nothing could be further from the truth: as a child, Julia is dependent on her family; after she graduates college, she is dependent on nobody but herself. The point of the campaign – and something that should be obvious to anyone – is that good governance affords her opportunities to carve out a better life for herself.

If you people want to be "Julia" then there is no further discussion to be made. You were born different, your brain must be wired that way.

The Julia deal really illustrates the philosophical divide in the country. The libs just love Julia, and can't see what the fuss was about. When I look at it, I see a soulless government dependent, whose entire life is mediocre at best. The story line doesn't even give her a husband to have her baby with. Government is her husband. Retirement doesn't offer any adventure either. She volunteers in a garden. Then presumably she dies.
She never shot for the stars, she never made any waves, she never made a big pile of dough. All her life she barely squeaks by. The left think this is idyllic. I think it's horrifying.

Worse still...
...they treat a fictitious success as if it should be credited to them as an empirical success.
"Let's pretend we did something that was a rousing success. Now we'll make it the policy to govern the lives of everyone else!"

What was Julia's great hope? I doubt that she hoped to be permanantly tied to the government that stole from her and then doed it back as largesse.
What were her dreams? Did she dream of taking a carribean cruise vacation but couldn't because she was apparently a single mom and couldn't afford to leave her business for that long?
Did she not take that adventure she wanted because the government reguated her business to the point it was barely profitable and then taxed it to the point it barely paid her bills much less allowed her to expand? Her business isn't portrayed as profitable.
Why did she have a son but with no husband? Probably because the government promised to be Daddy to her baby. I wonder when she hit the point of being up late at night and struggling to get her child to daycare and get a full day of work in if she realized that government won't change the baby's diaper.
In her retirement, she worke in a community garden as a "volunteer". Why? Is it because the government that has promised everything is teetering on the edge of financial ruin and won't let citizens out of the country without a bond to insure they return? Is she volunteering or being forced because of high food prices or because that is all the government views her as good for? It's an evil plan layed open here, it is.

MIGHT improve her life...then again, it might be the chains that hold her down, DUmmies.
More likely than not it's the latter.

No replies to the OP.
I guess it takes a special kind of doctrinaire liberal such as the author at "altered"net.org or xtra-chromosome to maintain such fantasies.

No, I'm feeling the same dissonance...Julia was an Obama administration tool to trumpet the State as Giver of Bread, and the Great Mocha Father's largesse to his Leftist acolytes, not a VRWC concoction...yet the DUmmie pretends nobody on the Left is really aware of the campaign. Puzzling, at best.

Julia was another fail that the Obama Regime has run away from.
What scares the shit out of me is these people are leading us in hostile world and we are reaping their leadership in the muzzie world, the pacific, and in europe. No matter what you might think of Romney, at least he would be playing for our side unlike the traitor Obama.
