Does watermelon freeze well?
I've been on a cubed watermelon kick this year. In salads, yogurt or as a plain snack. Also in sodas, tea and cocktails. I'm thinking of doing an ice cube tray thing, wrapped, to have some on hand.
(aside) Heard an interesting tidbit about the drought effects on some crops. Melons are sweeter. Firmer, not quite so juicy, but the sugars are pronounced.

1. I don't think so....
But you probably would have good luck blending it and freezing in ice cube trays then blending when frozen for watermelon slushies.

2. No. Too much water. You will just end up with mush.

3. No, the cell membranes will burst and you'll thaw it into pink mush
What you can do is buzz it in a blender or food processor and strain it, then freeze the juice.
Watermelon juice is wonderful stuff.
^^was one time, a very long time ago, franksolich's objet d'amour on Skins's island, until he found out the defrocked warped primitive has a face like Hindenburg's, and is as mean and ugly as an old rattlesnake.

4. I make sorbet with the blended fruit and it holds up well in the freezer
I agree with the others that it probably wouldn't do as well in whole fruit form. Juice and freeze it!
^^dear sweet Lu, the nasty, hate-filled hippywife primitive, Mrs. Alfred Packer's, replacement in the cooking and baking forum.

5. LOL. Juicing sounds like the consensus. I didn't think the freeze as is would go, either.
I'll go with some watermelon juice in the fridge and some frozen for later...
If franksolich wanted watermelon juice, he'd just go to the grocery store and inquire if they sell it; easier, quicker, cheaper, cleaner.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
It will break up in the freezer.

These are the same people who would try it if you suggested that they mix bleach and ammonia for shiny clean toilets.

The mother of a co-worker, who had lung cancer some years ago, would puree watermelon when she could get it and freeze the puree, to drink in the winter months. It was a 'quack' remedy/treatment for cancer, which her doctors had given her six months to live. She lived another eighteen years. Freezing a whole melon? Why? Just the space that would be taken up by the thing would be prohibitive.

That is the caliber of mind at the DUMP. If I was wondering how watermelon would freeze, I would simply take some watermelon and freeze it. Then I would sample it.
Lord no wonder these imbeciles (in the clinical sense) think the government needs to do everything because they are incapable of doing anything.

I seem to recall someone here suggested that not too long ago.

I bought a watermelon once that had apparently been frozen at some point during its journey from Guatemala to our kitchen.
When I cut into it, the whole thing ran out like a pink soup all over the countertop and onto the floor.

Pureed watermelon would probably make some tasty popsicles. Might have to try that sometime :-)
I freeze grapes, and eat them frozen. The texture is a bit like a little ball of sorbet. Tasty treats when it is hot without being too unhealthy. Just don't try to thaw them.

You need to go to Trader Joe's and get some frozen fruit bars.
