General Motors pushing U.S. to sell stake: report
By William Spain
CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- The Treasury Department is resisting General Motors' push to for the government to sell off its stake in the auto maker, The Wall Street Journal reports. Following a $50 billion bailout in 2009, the U.S. taxpayers now own almost 27% of the company. But the newspaper said GM executives are now chafing at that, saying it hurts the company's reputation and its ability to attract top talent due to pay restrictions. Earlier this year, GM GM-1.24% presented a plan to repurchase 200 million of the 500 million shares the U.S. holds with the balance being sold via a public offering. But officials at the Treasury Department were not interested as selling now would lead to a multibillion dollar loss for the government, the newspaper noted.

Bailout never should have occurred in the first place. This 'unintended' consequence was fully documented prior to the bailout. The fact that GM uses compensation as a reason to want out is criminal. GM you would not exist if the corrupt Govt didnt bail you out. Take your medicine. Voters remember the auto bailout at the polls...Capitalism works. Marxism never has.
Dont worry, Obama will fold like a card table. Hes a whore to whoever pays his bills.

So now GM can understasnd the expression "chickens coming home to roost"...Once the government "comes to help" you are its slave.

Ha, true Gov't Genius. The company informs the gov't that it will lose more money if the stock isn't sold, but the gov't says it won't sell the stock because it doesn't want to take the loss now.
So, losing more is better? Better for who? Better for Obama that Taxpayers lose $50 Billion two months from now than $25 Billion Now perhaps.

Who's in charge of GM now, other than the government? The unions. If they want to government out, it certainly doesn't bode well for the Obamessiah, does it?

Liberals wet dream, forcing companies to limit how much executive officers can be paid.

GM releases Q3 results just before Election Day. Will the numbers be miserable enough to boost Romney and bury Obama, or good enough to make Barry look like the auto savior he claims??

If they will hurt Obama, then they will find a reason to withhold them until after the election.
