Title: Explain To Me .. Please!?
Post by: mrclose on September 15, 2012, 11:49:55 PM
Could someone explain to me .. Since Paul Ryan is running ads that He and Romney will fully repeal Obamacare if elected .. Why in the #ell would he vote to fully fund it!?

The excuse that I am hearing is that because it was included in the CR bill and the the military budget is included in the bill ... the House had to pass it so as not to be ripped to shreds by the media!

I can see that but what I 'can't' see is .. Did Ryan have to vote yes on it for it to pass?

Couldn't he have voted no and the bill would still have passed?

I see this as more 'flip-flopping' ammo for the other side!

Can you see it now?
"Ryan says he and Romney will repeal Obamacare and yet .. He votes to fully fund it"!?

Well it wasnt like the only thing in the bill was Obamacare and it was passed with that compromise to prevent any lame duck shenanigans

I understand that.

What I don't understand is why Ryan put his campaign on the line by voting for it?

He did not have to vote for it .. for it to pass.

Now you have him campaigning against obamacare after he voted for it.

Am I making any sense here?

It didn't need his yes vote to pass!

So you are complaining that he didnt change his vote for political reasons? I guess we are at a point where every decision is a no win situation. If you do the right thing you opponents will be able to attack you, if you do the savvy thing your own party attacks you.

You cannot put yourself into a predicament like this ("We will repeal obamacare .. but first I'll vote to fund it"!).

He is actually running ads here in the swing state of Virginia promising repeal!
What do you think the media is going to be able to make out of this?

Obama used the present vote many, many times as a senator to avoid situations like this!

I doubt the media will do anything with this, since the bill was to prevent a government shutdown any attacks can be perceived as a pro-shutdown position. The only ones talking about this will be the hard line tea partiers who want to stick their head in the sand and not vote for Romney. Yes Ryan could have voted present but thats not who Ryan is. Romney on the other hand is very savvy ignoring the mounting calls for exact specifics which confusingly come from republicans. How quick they forget 2008 where McCain showed his healthcare reform specifics cutting medicare to pay for it and Obama eviscerated him on it only to use that same model to fund Obamacare as soon as he got into office.

The CR is for everything, whether you agree with any particular part of what it funds or not; if he voted against it, he'd get slapped for wanting to shut down the Defense Department.  I suppose he could go with the Obama option and vote 'Present,' if he was as big a douchebag as Obama, but voting for the CR with all the good and bad in it is the lesser of two evils.

He votes YES: Why did he vote for it if he wants to repeal it?

He votes NO: Why did he want to shut down the government?

He represents a very strong Democrat district, and wants (needs) to be re-elected. That's what politics is all about. It's about making "sausage".
