Title: Grand theft auto bouncy

Do you think a Republican would have done this...

A young man of 22 years stole my 2006 Cadillac a couple of months ago. He was found by the police the next day shopping at Walmart not even two miles from my house (with his wife and kids), none of whom could speak English very well.

When I was brought to my car by local police, I had seen the man in cuffs and the wife and children looking rather distraught. I said I wasn't going to press charges, talked to the guy in Spanish and told him what was happening, then told his wife. He was released later by the police and everyone was happy.

Why did I make this decision you ask? First let's ask, what did I have to gain by pressing charges? My car was already returned, the man was obviously not violent, and I was pretty dumb leaving my car running unattended while spraying some pesticides on my garden in the backyard before leaving for work.

The only thing I could gain was a guilty conscience that the man's wife and children would go through a lot of hardship. The guy even cleaned the car for me...

So do you think those Bible thumping conservatives would have done to him? Remember the following quotes are from the Bible (and I as a Christian hold these particular parts very dear to me, both are from Matthew):

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."

" And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. "

Chump.

DUmmy just wanted to one-up his fellow swap dwellers... he can afford a Cadillac and they can't.

You are right, of course.

As a very newly-minted DUmmy, though, he had to be a little cautious.

Pam Dawson would have made it a 2012 model.

Remember when she started making payments on a new Jeep, she put it and the model year in her new DUmp username.

Hell she probably already has the Iphone 5.  :-)

Steal my car and I will press charges.  I'm not going to give you a break for stealing my property.  Just like I wouldn't give you a break if you broke into my house.  I won't offer you a sandwich and some chips.

Hmmmmm....this DUmmie blames the victim, himself even for allowing his car to be stolen because he let it warm up.

Mercy would have been just deporting the damn thief and not making him serve ten years for grand theft auto first.  Now his kids will see that there is no consequence for criminal activity and the criminal will have to go to the trouble of stealing another car.

9. THIS, my friends, is why I come to DU and love it. You would NOT

find anything remotely resembling compassion like this anywhere else. Certainly not on the Freep site.

Damn straight you won't find compassion for thieves at a "freep" site. We don't go around stealing cars so we expect others not to do so either, or face the consequences of breaking the law. You also won't find too many on "freep" sites who are dumb enough to leave their vehicles running and unattended.

Once again the smartest people on the planet show how stupid they really are.

16. You are very unimaginative

The most common reason (in the Northeast) is to heat your car up in the winter before you get inside and drive an hour to work.

The reverse situation happened here, I opened my windows and put the AC on and left the car unattended while it cooled down (it was mid July then). I decided to spray my pesticides on the garden in the backyard while waiting.

If you use your imagination, you can come up with a lot of reasons. Your imagination is all that separates you from Republicans, so use it!
I'm surprised the DUmp hasn't DUmped on him/her/Pat for the unnecessary spewing of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere, or wasting fossil fuel, or using pesticides in the garden.

We get in our car and off we go.  The A/C begins to cool it off in a matter of minutes, and until then, we leave the windows down.

Here's my question: what kind of man is he?

He just admitted that the thief had a wife and kids.  Obviously, the thief needed the car to take his family places (like the doctor's office or the grocery store), or he wouldn't have taken it, so why did this moonbat take back the car?

Does he want the wife to miss a doctor's appointment and possibly get sick and die?  Does he want those children walking in the heat of summer and freezing cold of winter?!

What a monster!

Whoa, whoa, back up.

Maybe law-enforcement practices vary by state, but I'm wondering.

Generally, cops don't bring back stolen property; the owner has to go somewhere to retrieve it after he's been told it's found.

Right?

Generally, the victim of a crime like this doesn't meet the thief in person, unless in court or by chance.

Right?  I can't see cops sponsoring a get-acquainted session between perpetrator and victim.

Generally, the victim of a crime doesn't have the "right" to decide whether or not to press charges (excepting in a civil case) when a law's been broken; that's decided by authorities.

Right?

I dunno.  As I said, practices probably vary from state to state, but this doesn't smell right.

Of course, this DUmmy knows Spanish!!!!!   :lmao:

I thought once property was stolen it was up to the state's attorney to press charges, not the property owner?

If this really did happen in real life, the car thief will just steal someone else's car.

Dumb ass DUmmies.

They suck at telling lies.

Theft of personal property less than a $1,000 = misdomeaner. $250 fine.

Theft of rusted, ragged, 30 year old, plantet polluting DUmmie car...get out of jail free card, citizenship, foodstamps and democrat voter registration for all family members back in the old country.

Good point Frank, when my car got broken into and stolen years ago, I had to go to impound and pick it up, and to add salt to the wound I had to pay the yard for storage fees for several days, because they finally decided to call me after it had sat there for 4 days.  :banghead:

1/2 bong for putting in 2006 Cadillac to poke the hive a bit.

This did happen to me only it was a Mustang and we retrieved the car but it was trashed and I would have pressed charges in a heartbeat. Yes, we had to go get it at the place it was found after they did some fingerprint dusting.

Frank,

You are correct, on both counts.

Felony theft, auto theft, grand theft auto, etc. are "crimes against the state". A case would be titled "State of North DUmmyfornia vs. Jose CarThief", not "Vic Tim DUmmy vs. Jose Carthief." The car owner does not get the option to "press charges" in a felony.

And a stolen car is not delivered to the owner's home by the police, like Dominoes' Pizza (unless Andy Taylor is the lawman). If the owner is not directed to pick up his car at the scene of recovery, he will have to sign for it (and the inventoried property within) at a police impound lot or contract storage lot. The owner must also check his vehicle for damage and personal property which may have been stolen from the car. If the car was damaged, an insurance adjuster will prefer to inspect the vehicle while it is still in police custody.

The low post-count is suspect; it may be a mole.

You'd be surprised how many times we eviscerate someone from our side trying to mole Skins's island; rip them apart, tear them up.

But it's all good, because it teaches them how to be better moles.

In another  world they hang horse thieves.

In my perfect world the car thief would be ordered to----------Come to my house ever week for 3 months to do yard work, his wife would have to clean my house and the kids wash my windows and the car their daddy stole from me.  If the thief says piss on that and takes off his wife and kids would still have to forfill his obligations.------If wife and kids refuse then the kids go into the system for 3 months and wife has to serve his time in jail.

A fan of Judge Roy Bean.       This was of a sort tried out in Chicago in the 1980's as to making people responsible for their acts.

Section 8 housing, any family member that broke the law and the whole family was out on the street.   Worked very well intill  the damn ACLU could call a halt to this.
First time in years mothers kept an eye on their kids, first time in years the kids had a responsibility to their family to stay straight .    CRAP, kids went to school, thought twice before joining a gang.  Heart breaking story's came out of Chicago, mother and Grandma and 4 little kids put on the street, no where to live as their family member was arrested for robbing a store. --------

Well for a few months the schools were over crowded with kids whose guardians were scared shitless they would become homeless.     Police calls for domestic violence went down,  meaning the police needed fewer cops.

In comes the ALCU to save the lives of everyone involved and  give them their rights to live as they wish.  And the jobs of the police and courts was safe, the more customers the more jobs saved.

If somebody steals my car and charges don't get pressed it would be because some old fashioned mountaineer justice is gonna be applied. Said car thief will wish they was in jail when I get done with them.

Now it might be different if it was my neighbor's 14 yr old boy. I probably wouldn't do it cause I know his dad will make his life more miserable than the court ever could.   :-)

For the technical reasons laid out by Frank and BigDog, the story is of course bullshit.

After being accused of broadbrushing, the OP does it some more, with his rule:

Quote
So the general rule:
Republican = Hate Monger until proven innocent
Democrat = Compassionate until proven guilty

Which makes you an asshole of the first order.

I've seen episodes of COPS where the victim picked up his stolen car at the scene where it was found. The perp was still on scene; but in handcuffs in the back of the squad car. The police never asked the victims if they wanted to press charges...
