Title: 86 arrested in US consulate attack in Chennai: Police
Post by: Ptarmigan on September 14, 2012, 12:03:44 PM
Chennai: Eighty-six people were arrested on Friday after a group of several hundred Muslim protesters threw stones and smashed windows at the US consulate in the Indian city of Chennai, police said.

"They smashed the window panes, surveillance camera and tried to scale over the compound wall, but we dispersed them while exercising restraint," a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity. "We made 86 arrests."

The violence flared during a protest organised by the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, an Islamist movement, against an anti-Islam film which has triggered similar protests in large parts of the Muslim world.

A non-muslim country shows its willingness to protect embassies.

Learn this lesson: Non-muslim = civilized...Muslim = barbaric

I'd like it better if it were 86 Muslims killed while attacking a US Consulate.

Why does the media tend to provide cover for this savage behavior?

Wait let me change "tend" to "always"!

It is always "well some movie, or some act by a non-Muslim, or some fake insult".

Why don't they just say that this was done because ALL evidence is that these are abusive and deadly cultures.

"They say" they are protesting an anti-Islam film.  Surely "they" do not believe that this continued violence in various places directed mostly against U.S. interests will dispel any of that alleged anti-Islam sentiment, do they?

What is really troubling is:

How does killing each other stop a filmaker or cartoonist thousands of miles away?

It's not so much cover as it preying on the illiteracy and word of mouth communication of people in that part o the world.

99% of the people "upset" over this alleged video haven't even seen it...they were just told what it supposedly was...and that's all the fire that was needed to start this fire.

When I was in Afghanistan in 2010-11 there was a "rumor" that an American had stabbed a Koran with his bayonet...and left it outside a Mosque in Chora.  We went up there from Tarin Kowt to take a look at it when it was brought to the district Mayor's house.  It had indeed been "stabbed"...with a rusty Russian bayonet.  We had to explain to this man that not only was this a relic from the Soviet invasion...we don't even issue Bayonets anymore to troops deploying to Afghanistan.

After that things settled down...but that was after this rumor had been spread around by the local Taliban and whipped the people into a frenzy.

The bad guys are real good at stirring up word of mouth outrage...especially in a country with a 10% literacy rate that can read and find out things for themselves.
