Lincoln and Losing
My opponent often brings up the inconvenient truth that I ran for Congress in 2010 and lost, as if there were a giant letter “L†carved into my forehead. (Any Nathaniel Hawthorne fans out there?) I addressed that subject last year (“Sometimes, Nothing Worksâ€), but it’s just as good an answer to point to the career of my favorite President, Abraham Lincoln.
Lincoln: He ran for the state legislature in 1832, and came in eighth.
Lincoln and his partner started a general store in 1833, and it went bust. Lincoln had personally guaranteed the note, so the sheriff seized Lincoln’s stuff, and sold it.
In 1835, Lincoln’s girlfriend (and perhaps his fiancée; this is disputed) died.
Lincoln actually was elected to the state legislature three times, starting in 1834. But he ran for Illinois Speaker of the House twice, and he lost, both times.
Lincoln ran for Congress in 1843. He lost in the primary. {Although Lincoln did win in 1846, and served one term. I have seen the mark in the Capitol building, where Lincoln’s desk used to be.}
In 1849, Lincoln sought the position of General Land Office Commissioner. The Secretary of the Interior chose another candidate.
In 1854, Lincoln was nominated in the Illinois General Assembly for the U.S. Senate. (This was before the 17th Amendment, so the state legislatures selected U.S. Senators.) Lincoln fell six votes short.
At the 1856 Republican National Convention (which, contrary to popular belief, Clint Eastwood did not attend), Lincoln was nominated for Vice President. He lost.
In 1858, Lincoln was the Republicans' choice for the U.S. Senate, from Illinois. The Republicans failed to win the General Assembly, so Lincoln failed to win that seat.
So, by 1858, Lincoln was an eight-time loser (and, to be fair, a four-time winner) when it came to seeking public office. And, a very short time after that, Lincoln became the greatest President in history.
I read about this -- in Readers Digest, almost half a century ago -- and I’ve never forgotten it. I’ve won and I’ve lost. Winning is better. But there is no shame in losing. If someone has something to offer, and he still cares, then he picks himself up, he dusts himself off, and he tries again.
And then, with the help of people like you, he wins. And after that, we all win.
Courage,
Alan Grayson

1. The Republicons targeted you for telling the truth.
No we targeted him because he is a damn filthy liar.

From the title, I thought maybe he decided to re-grow the beard. :lmao:

Being tall, skinny and ugly does not a Lincoln make....in other words, Allen Grayson is just a simple loser.

I think the flunkie who writes the disgraced ex-congressman's posts is rather silly, when signing off with "Courage."
What sort of peril is the disgraced ex-congressman in, that demands courage?
He's just running for a public office in the United States of America; this demands certain things such as persistence, persuasion, salesmanship, answering questions and concerns. Those are good things to have and to do, but I'm not seeing where "courage" is necessary.
It's not like he's running for office opposing a corrupt genocidal socialist regime, where one stands in dread peril of getting hurt or even killed.

Lincoln did not viciously slander his opponents in political ads the way Grayson did towards Webster.
Lincoln did not seek support from the lowest dregs and extremists of society the way Grayson does with his interactions with the DUmmies.
Lincoln never crashed a car into a bus full of people, injuring several of them after running a red light due to being distracted by talking on his cell phone the way Grayson did. Then again, of course, cars, traffic lights, and cell phones weren't invented yet in Lincoln's time, so maybe that's not fair.
Lincoln was about unity; Grayson, like most Democrats, is about division.

Try Idi Amin, numbnuts. Posturing, arrogant, buffoonish, delusional, greedy, but very dangerous if ever able to gain power.

You have to love that. The SOB got caught in such a bald faced lie that even the Dems had to acknowledge it as such, but we went after him because he told the truth? No, we went after him because he was batshit insane and had no business in congress.

It does take courage for Grayson. Obviously, he escaped from the loony bin and by putting himself out there, he's making it easy for the men in white coats to track him down.

Grayson's antics are unnecessary as his newly created district is 60% democrat.

With the thoughts you'd be thinkin'
You could be another Lincoln
If you only had a brain

How are the lawsuits coming when the drunk ran through a red light and caused all the poor people to go to the hospital?
