I made a post on my facebook pointing out how it was cool for democrats to jump on any and all of Bush's foreign affairs for political gain as quickly as humanly possible. My brother responded that democrats do not do this, and have never jumped on republicans during tragedies as they unfolded. My impulse was to start with Katrina, but I'd rather start with something a little harder hitting. Any suggestions?

Giffords shooting. Hadta be one of those Teahadists.

Man I had forgotten the Giffords shooting, excellent point! Any more?

Giffords not a crisis. It was a tragedy.
Katrina is the better.
World Trade Center was slow, but, they went there.

Giffords wasn't a crisis I agree, but that's not the point of the argument imo. I think it's a fantastic point. The problem with Katrina is that he can simply argue "yeah but Bush really DID botch it" and feel vindicated. Giffords, at least to me, seems a more evident mistake from the left.

I should also mention that he is claiming democrats did not criticize Bush early on during the early months of the 9/11 incident. From what I remember, this was the most unified moment I can remember this country in my adult life, but I admit I don't remember it well.

2004 FLASHBACK: KERRY SLAMS BUSH AFTER SEVEN SERVICEMEN KILLED IN IRAQ
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/09/12/Flashback-Kerry-Slams-Bush-004
Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, today, publicly slamming Mitt Romney for daring to criticize Barack Obama:
This is one of those moments when Americans must unite as Americans. It is exactly the wrong time to throw political punches. It is a time to restore calm and proceed wisely
.
John Kerry as the Democratic nominee in 2004 while on the campaign trail against George Bush:
Later, addressing a crowd at a picnic in Racine, W.Va., Kerry devoted almost his entire 27-minute address to a critique of Bush. On a day when seven U.S. servicemen were killed in a suicide bombing attack in Iraq, Kerry termed the war in Iraq "catastrophic." Still later, he referred to it in a statement as "a quagmire," a word often applied to the U.S. conflict in Vietnam. He also blasted the president's record on job creation, health care, energy independence and education.
The Washington Post goes on to say that Kerry kept this up all throughout his day of campaigning.
The possibility exists that at the time he was campaigning, Kerry wasn't yet aware of the tragic death of these seven Marines. But it doesn't matter, because the day after this Post story ran, Kerry blistered Bush in a speech in Ohio:
But then, George W. Bush made the wrong choices. He himself now admits he miscalculated in Iraq. In truth, his miscalculation was ignoring the advice that was given to him, including the best advice of America’s own military. When he didn’t like what he was hearing, he even fired the Army Chief of Staff. His miscalculation was going to war without taking every precaution and without giving the inspectors time. His miscalculation was going to war without planning carefully and without the allies we should have had. As a result, America has paid nearly 90% of the bill in Iraq. Contrast that with the Gulf War, where our allies paid 95% of the costs.
George W. Bush’s wrong choices have led America in the wrong direction in Iraq and left America without the resources we need here at home. The cost of the President’s go-it-alone policy in Iraq is now $200 billion and counting. $200 billion for Iraq, but they tell us we can’t afford after-school programs for our children. $200 billion for Iraq, but they tell us we can’t afford health care for our veterans. $200 billion for Iraq, but they tell us we can’t afford to keep the 100,000 new police we put on the streets during the 1990s.
Well we’re here today to tell them: they’re wrong. And it’s time to lead America in a new direction.
