TIME TO RALLY BEHIND ANOTHER DUer IN NEED

Last edited Mon Sep 10, 2012, 06:38 PM USA/ET - Edit history (2)
(I was previously given permission by Skinner to post periodically about http://www.wishadoo.org, especially when it involves DUers, with this required disclaimer: "The administrators of Democratic Underground have given permission for one discussion thread on this topic. The administrators of Democratic Underground make no claims regarding the legitimacy or illegitimacy of this fundraising effort. Permission was granted by Skinner on 8/6/2010, and the moderators have been notified.")

Earlier today DUer catbyte created this DU post to share her experience and the dreadful situation she finds herself in, which includes fearing for her three cats after receiving an eviction notice. She wrote:

"You know how they say that many folks are 1 paycheck away from disaster? Well I am 1/2 a paycheck from disaster and disaster has hit. My husband has been in a nursing home for 18 months and will likely be there permanently due to the ravages of having Type I Diabetes for 54 years. He has vascular dementia and has lost part of a foot. Our insurance ran out and I was hit with a big bill before Medicaid kicked in. It paid some months retroactively but not all. I was faced with a choice of keeping a roof over his head or mine. I think I can stay with friends for a while but I am worried sick about my 3 cats.

I never thought I would be in this position at age 57. Sorry but I just had to vent. The healthcare system in this country sucks even if you have insurance."

The link below takes you to the Wishlist post, which gives a bit more information, including contact (and PayPal) info for catbyte if you can help in any way.

http://www.wishadoo.org/wishlist/124/facing-eviction-in-sw-michigan-worried-about-3-cats/

catbyte would GREATLY appreciate it if you would kindly:

* Recommend this thread and keep it kicked

* Share the Wishlist post with your social networks (or share from here, of course)

* Offer whatever support you can (information, advice, financial support, well wishes, etc.)

You can contact her here at DU through PM, at Wishadoo, or send an email to her as noted in the Wishlist post.

PLEASE NOTE: Anyone is welcome to use the tools at Wishadoo, so long as the Terms of Service are adhered to (basically "play nice" and don't lie). This includes creating posts in the Wishlist, a "craigslist of compassion." Most of us are struggling with one thing or another, and as you'll see, there are many categories in the Wishlist to cover a variety of issues/needs.

Wishadoo! is a portal of sorts, where there are tools to create more compassionate, cooperative communities; the Wishlist is where we can ask, offer, give, receive and pay it forward. If you create a Wishlist post, let me know your DU name, and I can start to do weekly or biweekly threads such as this to highlight DUers' needs and offerings.

(FYI, the Wishlist post regarding Bubble & Squeak was shared far and wide, and eventually led to a happy yet bittersweet ending -- given the poignant circumstances -- thanks to the heroism of several DUers and well wishes of many non-DUers around the country. BTW, we may need an update from DUer, jsmirman, as to whether or not he is still in need of funds to cover everything; the DNC and other news events derailed that effort, last I heard. We were almost there, though...)

* * * * * * *

I realize there are pleas for help from every corner nowadays, but if you are able to help support the administrative costs of Wishadoo! so the website can continue to provide tools to help one another, there aren't enough words to express my gratitude. I struggle tremendously myself and hate to ask, especially when I'm posting to ask for help for others, but ask I must. Remember that Glenn Beck branded Wishadoo! as part of the community/socialist/fascist conspiracy on his show, so I know we're on the right track with such endeavors for The Common Good!

Investing in Wishadoo! goes toward the cost of maintaining the site, NOT toward any Wishlist posts. That takes place one on one, between Wishadoo! members. ~ OneGrassRoot

I'm sending one hell of huge hand of white light.

Don't spend it all in one place.

I thought this wasn't going to happen after 11:00 a.m. January 20, 2009.

In fact, tales of woe seem to have increased since then.

I wonder what's up with that.

I will support them in any way, except monetarily.

You have to hand it to the DUmpmonkey who started up the "Wishadoo!" scam.

If you're going to run a scam that has zero chance of hustling up any significant bucks, you may as well do it with a sense of humor.

Here's the Wishadoo! manifesto - a pure distillation of DUmpspeak:

Quote
OUR MISSION:   WISHADOO! is a social visionary enterprise imbued with the core values of empathy, compassion, integrity, and respect, dedicated to cooperation, collaboration and community.  Wishadoo! provides a framework with tools to:

1.    Connect people (of all ages and backgrounds) who share these values;

2.    Foster innovation and creativity inspired by these values;

3.    Initiate and support projects focused on Our Common Good;

4.    Nurture Grassroots Community Philanthropy.

The inspiration surely came from George Costanza's "Human Fund" on Seinfeld.

Quote
Instead of exchanging Christmas gifts (per normal custom) with his co-workers, when George was given a gift he in turn gave his co-worker a card stating that a donation had been made in their name to a charity called "The Human Fund" (with the slogan "Money For People"), when in fact this organization didn't exist.

Well, I've come to the conclusion that DUmmies are satisfied the "O" made an effort, just like the dems have "tried" and continue to try to get rid of poverty even after spending Trillions.

Ah yes, that endless quagmire, with no light at the end of the tunnel, the War on Poverty.

The longest war in the history of the Republic; one wonders when it will end.

They can try to dump on conservatives all they want (about poverty) but Oprah Winfrey once said;

Quote
 ... I became so frustrated with visiting inner-city schools that I just stopped going. The sense that you need to learn just isn't there. ... If you ask the kids what they want or need, they will say an iPod, sneakers, or some money.

There is some contradiction here

The "one discussion thread" allowance was met a long time ago.  "Periodically" and "one ...thread" don't mean the same.

There must be some way the DUmmies can blame this on Bush,  and disregard all the hopey/changey rhetoric of the last (nearly) four years.

Funny, but with the huge expansion of government into our lives, one wonders why the Skittle-shitting Unicorn Brigade has not yet ridden to her rescue.

Even stranger is the fact that she has not reached out (or claimed to have) the various charities which if her circumstances were anywhere near true would be more than willing to help her out in her time of need.

If she even tried to reach out to programs in her community, there would be a great outpouring of relief, or at least enough to ensure she had a roof over her head and that of her cats until such a time as she could give the cats up for adoption and move into a place she could afford, even with a Section 8 voucher.

But again, in the timeless words of coach, "DUmmies lie.  All the time, DUmmies lie."

Also, it's very true and inalterable.
