The denizens of DUmmyland are ever on the lookout for something to whine about, some perceived slight, some tidbit that someone else has that they don't/didn't.

10 Public universities with insanely luxurious dorms

Couldn't this money had been better spent on professors, equipment, computers, etc? What's wrong with the good old 10'x12' concrete block room with a shared bathroom down the hall with internet in every room and free basic plus tier cable like I had?
"Their rooms are better than mine were! It isn't FAIR. They are getting more than their FAIR SHARE!" (This is how I imagined their whining would sound)
How in the world do they even walk, what with their panties being always wadded up about something or other.

So when they spend money on the students, they STILL get bitched at? Jesus, DUmmies, make up your shitheaded minds.

We didn't have cable in our dorm room, and if you wanted a phone, you paid extra for it There was not internet back then.

Dorm rooms, like nice hotel rooms or nice apartments, are an advertisement meant to get a greater number of students to attend the school. "But mom, look at how nice and modern the dorms are!"
Kinda like the Army changing barracks rooms from open bay or even 4 man rooms to the 1+1 style (private bedrooms with shared latrine/kitchenette)

Well no worries, according to Sandra Fluke, they have to pay thousands and thousands for contraceptives. So life is not ALL honeypots and lickety-split freebies in the dorms.

I don't know about dorm rooms but the buildings that are being built in the UC system explain a lot of the tuition increases. When I graduated in 1982 the buildings were plain cinder block and concrete structures. Now these buildings are quite stylish and lavish. The lavish buildings when I went were at private schools that cost ten times more than the public ones. Add in that the buildings have to be built by the highest bidder (not really but prevailing wage) and that the campus has almost four times more buildings. Funny thing, no new dorm buildings only lavish work areas for the staff of the university.
