Title: Drew Peterson Guilty
Post by: txradioguy on September 06, 2012, 02:51:27 PM
JOLIET, ILL. –  DEVELOPING: Jurors convicted Drew Peterson of murdering his third wife Thursday, capping a sensational, five-year legal saga that began after the swaggering former Illinois police officer's fourth wife vanished.

Peterson, 58, faces a maximum 60-year prison term when sentenced. Illinois has no death penalty.

The prosecution built its case almost exclusively on circumstantial and hearsay evidence, including testimony about what Peterson's wives had told friends and acquaintances before the one died and the other disappeared. The verdict was a vindication for Will County prosecutors, who gambled by putting on such a case and then committed numerous stumbles during testimony that drew angry scoldings from the judge.

Over the course of the investigation and prosecution, Peterson had seemingly taunted authorities, joking on talk shows and even suggesting a "Win a Date With Drew" contest. His notoriety even inspired a TV movie starring Rob Lowe.

A neighbor found Kathleen Savio's body on March 1, 2004, face down in a dry bathtub of her suburban home outside Chicago. Her thick black hair was blood-soaked and she had a 2-inch gash on the back of her head.

The drowning death of the 40-year-old aspiring nurse was initially deemed an accident -- a freak slip in the tub. After Peterson's fourth wife, 23-year-old Stacy Peterson, went missing in 2007 was Savio's body exhumed, re-examined and her death reclassified as a homicide.

The 12 jurors, who raised eyebrows by donning different color-coordinated clothes each day of testimony, deliberated for XXdays/hours before reaching a decision. The seven men and five women included a poet, a letter carrier and a man who said his favorite TV show was "Criminal Minds."

Peterson had divorced Savio a year before her death. His motive for killing her, prosecutors said, was fear that a pending settlement, which included their $300,000 home, would wipe him out financially.

There will be a retrial.  Check my thread in mind numbing stupidity...the jury didn't know the definition of unanimous.

That having been said, Drew Peterson is a slimy POS.

Strange actions by the jury.  Might give the defense some reason to ask for a retrial.

Does Illinois have the death penalty? If so, execute him, bring him back to life, and then execute him again. The Bastard. I hope he burns in hell.

No. The bastard and now imprisoned former governor George Ryan did away with it.

Did anyone read that book Witness?

It's actually pretty good.  First person testimony from Petersen's last gf.  She was smoking hot as well, but I'm just quoting the 890AM guy during all the hubbub back when this was a fun afternoon topic after Limbaugh.

Only complaint I have is the TV cameras were not allowed inside the court.

True TV and court TV was a mess of having their reporters running out of the court every 30-45 minutes to report on what had gone on in the trial.       There was one older lady an artist that was allowed to draw the scene like back in the 1800's but with all the technology today this was not an open to the public other then in the court room kind of deal.   [ all trials should be televised to the public, we have the Cop shows that film an arrest, why not their trials,  and if found not guilty let it be known.]

He, the brazen perp. is and was a work of crap, his Lawyers did do as best they could with what they had to work with, most likely the defendant had admitted to them that he had killed his EX-Wife and could not put him on the stand knowing this with out suborning perjury.

BTW, my friends in the Doll's group tell me that the Myth of those in prison for sex crimes against children is in this day and age pure BS.     One an EX prison guard tells me that the majority of inmates are in the lock up for causing harm or death to children.

This Ass will get big time respect from the other inmates and guards like that of Charles Manson.   Being a rogue Cop will just highten his reputation and as long as family keep sending money into the Canteen for his " body guards" he will now live out his life with free room and board, TV access to a computer, lots of friends to play games and BS with.  Free dental care, free medical care, clean clothing and on holidays a special meal.     Hell, some prisons allow a safe place for prisoners to have Guests to stay for a day or so.    Complete privacy known as conjugal visits.

I think this buffoon got off lightly, he still gets his pension to bank, most likely fan mail from disturbed woman that want to marry him, may be running a shill game of wooing his fans out of money.

Was this really justice, I am not sure, as this monster will live out his life with more comforts and rights then some of the family's of his victims.

Yes, yes he is.  While he is a turd, I am not entirely comfortable with the shakiness of the 'Evidence' (cough) on which he was convicted, though.  If they're going to let the State's experts conjecture at will and let in all sorts of normally-inadmissible evidence because the Defendant is an asshole, well that sounds fine as long as you think he's as asshole too, but it opens up the door for the State to decide anyone it really wants to nail is also an asshole worthy of 'Special justice.'

Drew Petersen got a fairer trial than people that Obama puts on his drone kill list.

Illinois allows hearsay as evidence in criminal trials.  The jury said that without the hearsay law, they never would have been able to convict him.
