Obama Convention Speech Being Moved Indoors (updated)

Care Acutely (318 posts)
1. Disappointing, but not as disappointing as dead/endangered attendees
in a violent thunderstorm. Lightning is one of the top weather-related killers. Better everyone should be safe.

2. the weather is horrible up and down the coast and predicted so the next six days
what a storm there was yesterday and today it already poured(some of the nastiest skies I ever saw in NJ).
and though it appears Thursday will be okay up here, Friday-thru early next week has strong thunderstorms and rain predicted
(meaning that Friday's NJ rain will be south of NJ (in the Carolina's) on Thursday.
don't let the repubs spin this to anything else, though the pathetic losers will attempt to.
Last thing one would want is lighting to strike an outdoor event with microphones and live wires.

3. Good decision because he is really speaking to the TV audience and it wouldn't
be as effective if it were outdoors with him competing against a storm.

4. Unfortunately with outdoor stadiums
you have to be prepared for stuff like that. I am of the belief that every new stadium built should have a retractable roof. The decision to not put a retractable room on Soldier Field here in Chicago as a was one and has cost Chicago some events like a Super Bowl maybe and other things that will bring in money.

5. Son and DIL are majorly disappointed as they had tix to the stadium.
Right thing to do.

6. Yeah, I have them too, but
it's better to err on the side of caution this time -- the storms we've had rolling through here the last few days have been strong and full of lightning/wind/heavy rains.
Disappointing, but I totally understand, as I would hope other reasonable people do.
Potentially too many empty seats watching the empty seat?
Nope.
Maybe poor planning?
nope.
It's just weather.
Better to be safe.

I'm going to laugh my ass off if the 20,000 seats are still too many.
Edit to fix a sleep deprived grammar screwup.

Love the headline. Very apt.

Slight chance of light rain.
No severe weather forecast.
Must. be. safe.

Posted this in another thread.
I was shelling butterbeans while the TV played in the background. Charlotte TV station broke in on regular programing to make the announcement that due to bad weather the democrats were canceling the event at the stadium....and right behind that came the weather forecast for today and the long range forecast for tomorrow and the rest of the week....storms and bad weather are forecast to be out of our area by early tomorrow... :lmao:
The community organizers should coordinate with local TV stations better.... :lmao:

They should probably go ahead and cancel the NFL game tonight just to be safe. You know live wires and such.

don't let the repubs spin this to anything else,
Let them? Let them? That's not in your control. Just a quick stroll around the internet shows me that nobody's buying it.
Endorsement of gay marriage, pro-abortion stance, throw Israel under the bus, and take God out of the platform.
No wonder they are afraid of lightning bolts....
-
Even tempting college students with free beer, giving away tickets in the local bars, and busing in black church goers from surrounding states couldn't get the stadium filled. The polish on the 0bama turd has come completely off.

It's nice to see the democrats admitting that there's a consequence to dropping God from the party platform. Even though there's no rain they're scared shitless of lightning. :rotf:

That's worthy.

Surely if there were bad weather on the way MyLays, the Malarial DUmmy, the poster of gloom/doom hurricane predictions as soon as there's a shower off the coast of Africa would have been on top of the predictions.
But she wasn't, and didn't, so there must not be bad weather coming.
